“Beowulf” is an epic poem depicting a noble warrior who goes through great battles across a foreign land to help the townspeople. He kills the demon Grendel in order to stop his torment of the Danes, and is killed in battle with a dragon. Beowulf is a prime example of the hero archetype. He is motivated by glory, always puts up a fair fight, and is willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good, which he does in the end. While some critics may think that the character Beowulf is simply a narcissist, his characteristics make him an undeniable hero figure.
