Rats, are they friends or foes? This paper will unlock the mystery to rats and what's beneath their furry little faces'. We will determine if they're our rivals, our allies, or possibly both. Many believe them to be mean and vicious. Others believe they're sweet and make incredible pets. Can they both be true? Where did rats come from? According to WWW.ratbehavior.org, Black rats originated from Asia and likely made their way across the world via trade ships. An example of this is the black plague, around six centuries ago a plague struck Europe, wiping out villages and killing millions of people. And one of the theories as to how this happened is that rats with fleas got onto a traders' boat and went with them to Europe where the fleas seemingly started the disease. "'I don’t know about Chicago, but I do know New York,” said William Dantzler, “Rats in New York walk on subway platforms with no fear. If you stomp your feet in front of them and they look at you like you're invading their space.'" (www.nydailynews.com) "'New York doesn’t have rat nests,” the baker from Brooklyn added. “It has rat colonies.'" Chicago was listed as the worst rat infested city while New York was placed as the second worst. Then there's the legend of the Pied Piper which is believed to be based on actual events. As the tale goes there was a city with an unusual amount of rats so bad that they were willing to pay a lot of money to get rid of it. Depending on where you hear it they offer a sack of gold. But when the Pied Piper shows up to accept the challenge and relieves the city of its rats the people of the city decide that he did it so effortlessly he didn't deserve the bag of gold. So instead he took away the children and, in some stories, vowed that next time he would rid the city of its two-legged rats, implying that they were worse than the rats. Who was the bad guy
People already know that rats are very disgusting creatures that live in sewers and eat trash. But these four articles introduced new insights to the problems that rats cause. Some of them include causing destructive infestations, horrible diseases that can harm or kill people and pets, and the danger of using pesticides to humans. The first reason and paragraph discusses what rat infestations are and why they occur, the second paragraph talks about the dangers to human society, and the third paragraph discusses the ways people are trying to rid their lives of rats.
In the “Cat and the Rat-Legend of the Chinese zodiac” it states that the cat is resourceful. The cat is also trusting i think thats why she got tricked so easily. She was also hopeful when she was trying to cross the river. The rat in that story was selfish and very easily betrayed his friend. He was also very smug as it states.Although he betrayed his friend it was still a smart idea so i think he is clever. The main setting is on the river that they had to cross to win the race. The other setting is at the finish line of the race. The conflict of this is they had to win the race and then Rat betrayed cat. The cat and rat thought of a plan to win the race but Rat pushed cat off when they were close to the finish line so he could win so cat had to try to swim even though she hates water but he still didn't make it in time to have a place. The theme is how cat and rats became enemies.
The black rat originated in Asia in the Mongolian Empire. They were wild borrowing animals who hosted the microorganism Yersinia pestis, which was natural disease in the wild borrowing animal’s population. Humans and these animals did not cross paths until the development of roads crossing through the domain of the rats. Following the onset of the leprosy scare throughout Europe, another deadlier infection was about to change their perspective on life and the world. The Church held the most power over the monarchs and peasant people life, alike, during the leprosy endemic, but at the start of a new infection they would lose their power vary rapidly as it came to be. Just as the Church lost it power and influence different churches emerged from the plague as did other lasting societal impacts. The plague ravaged through Europe and destroyed their current way of life and inflicting societal changes that are still present today.
The very hate I was taught to loathe, for my race has been scapegoated and hated since the dawn of mankind, was now slowly becoming part of me. Being swept away by the malevolent New York attitude caused me to ignore this paradox, to let it be taken captive by my anger. It pled with me to listen, to stop hating, but I shackled it to the back wall of my conscience. The overpowering ethic was bestial, fit for animals, not humans. I'm not talking about any lovable bunny rabbits or timid deer, mind you. I'm talking about vicious animals, like New York, cat-sized, hairy, filthy, germ-carrying rats that don't scurry when something bigger comes their way, that line their holes with a dead
Rat infestations have swarmed throughout the world, looking for food, and spreading diseases, so of course people attempt to get rid of them. First off, they spread disease. It states in Source 1, “Around 60% of the rodents carry Weil's disease...” This quote states that the majority of all rodents, have Weil’s disease. That means that if you see a rat, it is probably infected with disease. This is incredibly dangerous for people walking the street, or someone without a home. That person who does not have a home, could get a disease very easily. The rats can carry disease and they can spread that disease, it even states in Source 4, “It was this rat which ushered in the Black Plague.” In this piece, they are speaking of Black Rats. These rats were probably one of the unlucky 60%, or it was a carrier something that was on them.
To start off, the cause of this epidemic, it was given to the people of Europe by flea infested rats and mice. The rats and mice had a disease called Yersinia pestis. The disease was easily given to people through fleas that were feeding off of the rats, and they often called them “black rats”. Even though,
Given that, city rats are the same breed as a pet or lab rat, they can grow to about 16 inches and weigh up to a pound, moreover, their colonies can grow to 40 to 50 rats, and they have the habit of to travel in packs. In addition, when they reproduce, they can mate 20 times in six hours and female rats can give birth to 40 to 70 rats a year. Therefore, they are extremely difficult to kill and New York City, containing an underground subway system, empty lots, apartment complexes and lots of garbage, is the perfect environment for a massive reproduction of these undesirable animals.
Quite a bit of Ratched's character is apparent in her name. McMurphy professes it "Rodent shed" amid an early area of the novel, demonstrating that she has rat like characteristics of working unobtrusively, rapidly, and to the disservice of her casualties. The peruser is reminded that rats were the bearers of the Black Plague amid the Middle Ages, and Ratched taints the healing facility's orderlies, understudy attendants, advertising work force, and patients with her unreasonable longing for request.
Have you ever had someone that has done that to you like Rat did to Cat. One story we read was “Cat and Rat: Legend of the Chinese Zodiac” about how Rat cheated his friend Cat. The other we read was “How Cats and Mice Became Enemies” about how the cat got made at his friend mouse for eating their pumpkin boat. In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting the story Cat and Rat Legend of the Zodiac and How Cat and Rat Became Enemies.
Eventually, the stress made Rat snap and turned him from a brave medic to a paranoid and crazed man who desperately wanted to escape. He started talking on and on about bugs, “swarms of mutant bugs, billions of them, they had him bracketed. Whispering his name… all night long-- it was driving him crazy.”(209-10) He started scratching at his bug bites till they bled and even then he wouldn’t stop. It wasn’t just the bugs that stayed on his mind. His job as a medic had exposed him to countless corpses and injuries and “[he] start to picture how [his friends] look dead. Without arms or legs… he couldn’t shut off the pictures.”(211) Seeing so many dead and heavily injured people must’ve made him paranoid and fear for his own life because he also
It is because of this that rats are a perfect metaphor for the extent of the party's control. While Julia is describing the extent of the rodent infestation parallels can be drawn between the infestation and the way the party conducts their business. " ‘We've got them in the kitchen at the hostel. Some parts of London are swarming with them. Did you know they attack children'"
With their large eyes and adorable faces [https://i2.wp.com/www.org4life.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Packrat.gif], pack rats look innocent. But don’t be fooled. These tiny rodents have no regard for the law. They steal without remorse, and — similar to people — they love shiny objects.
Rat infestations is when rats migrate trying to find a new place to nest. Rats try to nest in places you wouldn’t even think of, such as, walls, underneath floors, and even your attic or basement. The people who live in India are concerned because when rat floods occur the rats are invading their crops and leaving the humans starving. The rat flood happens about every 50 years
Once upon a time, there lived a happy rat. He lived in sewers. His name was Thomas and although he lived underground and in the sewer, he was happy. He had many friends and respected each and one of them, and treated them equally.
Rats are various medium sized rodents. "True rats" are members of the genus Rattus, the most important of which to humans are the black rat, Rattus rattus, and the brown rat, R. norvegicus. Many members of other rodent genera and families are also called rats and share many characteristics with true rats. A rat has an average life span of 2-3 years[1].
