Book Report Fahrenheit 451

In Fahrenheit 451 the main character, Montag was a person who is happy to be a fireman at first then throughout the book he changed his mind. He thinks burning books is same as burning a living things. After he met Clarisse he start thinking about things that he didn’t. Both his wife and clarisse shows him what’s right and what’s not a right thing.

“Well wasn't there a wall between him and Mildred, when you came down to it? Literally not just one wall but, so far, three!” (41 Bradbury). In Fahrenheit 451 Montag and his wife Mildred are so far apart, not by physical space, but by something else entirely. A once sacred bond like marriage is simply a word and nothing more. They share the same house but not the same mindspace. Her head is filled with simple words and silly technological people. She is too blind to even comprehend love. In Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 there is no such thing as love.

As a child, there are special books that we never will forget. When I was younger, my mother would read the bible to me every night. Joining the wandering group of book lovers, had me choose a valuable book to preserve and memorize. I would preserve the bible for future generations because it gives a message of freedom, tells history, and transformed the world.

Acts of terrorism are vicious and pitiless, taking the lives of innocent individuals. I believe that in order to stop these acts of rebellion, unconventional means of combating the threats are necessary, one of these being, wiretapping. Ray Bradbury is a classic science fiction/fantasy writer who is best known for his works Fahrenheit 451, Martian Chronicles, and Illustrated Man. He was born Ray Douglas Bradbury on August 22nd, 1920 in Waukegan, Illinois. His father was a telephone technician, his mother was a Swedish immigrant and his grandparents were newspaper publishers. He lived in Illinois until in 1934, at age 14, his family moved to Los Angeles, California. There he attended Los Angeles High School from which he graduated in 1938. During his time in High School he was a part of the drama club and planned to go into acting and rise into fame, and often roller skating around the streets of LA attempting to spot famous actors. Because the depression left his family with no money to pay for college he pursued no further formal education

The article written by Sarah Maslin Nir and William K. Rashbaum in the New York Times, talks about a bomber who tried to detonate a bomb in one of Manhattan’s busiest subways. The bomb did go off but not fully and Akayed Ullah, 27, who was identified by a policeman, was the only was who was badly injured.

In the world of Fahrenheit 451, the absence of books and therefore lack of academic knowledge affects the social aspect of their community immensely. Contradictory thinking involves taking two opposing sides of an argument and considering the pros and cons of each side. This thought process is what shapes our everyday lives. The problem with the people within the novel is that the government has raised them to have answers to choices already given to them. They grow up being given information that they are told is the only right answer, and these people are given no room to think about whether it actually is or not. Guy Montag is a fireman who believes he is content with his occupation and life in an oppressive futuristic American society portrayed in the novel Fahrenheit 451. In Montag's society, firemen start fires instead of putting them out, burning books and belongings of book owners. In this futuristic society people don't read books, enjoy nature, think independently or have meaningful conversations. Instead, they drive very fast, watch excessive television, and waste unnecessary time on listening to radio. However, his displeasure, undisclosed to even himself, becomes apparent after meeting Clarisse McClellan, the new neighbor and 17 year old girl, who engages in peculiar acts. Through her naive and deep questions combined with her strange affection for people and nature opens Guy Montag's to the true reality of his life.

Would you like a world without reading? Would you want a world without happiness? I may not like reading but it adds emotion to the world and doesn’t make it a dull place like in Fahrenheit 451. The reason why the world is without emotion is because the government took books away, and they suppress the will for people to express their emotion. And if people are willing to sacrifice everything to read a book then maybe books are actually important.

Fahrenheit 451 and Hunger Games as Dystopian Fiction The dystopian fiction genre of a book or movie contains a society that is perceived as perfect, but in reality, corrupt and is completely controlled by other people that are higher up. Fahrenheit 451’s main character is Montag, a firefighter who burns books, sets fires, and lives in a world where no one thinks for themselves. All homes and buildings are fireproof so instead of putting the fires out, firemen start them. No one knows of a time when books were legal and buildings burned, which is why Montag laughs when his neighbor, Clarisse McClellan adk him about the firemen from long ago.
