During this section of the book, I felt contented that someone was finally trying to find out more things about Mr. Harvey. In this case, it is Susie's father, Jack Salmon. I like how Jack Salmon is strong and won't give up until he finds his daughter's murderer. On the other hand, I was upset and confused as to why Ray didn't attend Susie's memorial service. I thought about this for a moment and then I understood that maybe Ray wanted to forget about Susie, but he still missed her at the same time. Overall, what really shocked me about this section of the book was when Lindsey passed out at Susie's memorial service. Losing someone close to you is tough, especially if it’s a family member. Abigail Salmon is the mother of Susie that she loses early in the novel, this has affected her actions and way of living her life and even pursuing teenage dreams. Since Susie didn't arrive for dinner Abigail still kept her hope up that nothing unusual had happened and that her daughter was in safe hands. Successively she started becoming worried and made phone calls to neighbors

Jack and Abigail Salmon, Susie’s parents, they greave the death of their daughter in different ways which leads to problems in their marriage. Jack is very much focused on finding Susie’s body but while doing that he becomes distant with Abigail, the outcome is her having an affair. Abigail leaves Jack and their remaining children for 7 years trying to find herself.

The protagonist of the book is George. George is the main character who makes the difficult decisions such as where they worked or other decisions. One of the hardest decisions George had to make is killing his best friend. Some more examples of how George is the protagonist is he would help Lennie decide what to say to people and where to hide if he got into trouble. Imagine having a perfect family a wife and three kids also after a short 13 years having your eldest child viciously torn away from you, in the story the lovely bones this is exactly what happened to Jack salmon. Jack is having to deal with the trauma of losing his firstborn child on top of trying to keep a grasp on his wife. With Jack's wife running off to California and his daughters offender on the loose, Jack struggles with keeping a steady head. Jack copes with this trauma by seeking revenge to the culprit Mr. Harvey. Jack takes time to move past this in his life but soon learns to hold his family closer than ever before. We can all learn from what Sebold illustrates to us in jack's character about dealing with trauma.

Though intriguing, heaven can sometimes be a fear. People try to imagine what it might be like to leave this Earth, and soon they slowly come spiraling back down from their mountain of clouds, and realize that is incomprehensible to imagine such an event. Due to this inability to fully grasp the meaning of the after life, people have begun to have different perspectives on what heaven means to them. Some fear death, while others invite it into their lives either out of curiosity or hope. As for Susie Salmon, she neither feared death nor encouraged it. There are two major characters in this story. The first one is Shelia. Shelia is a 6-year old girl who comes to a special classroom after the holiday where she is to stay only temporarily while she waits for an opening in the state hospital to open. Shelia was sentenced to the hospital after tying a 3-year old to a tree and burning him. Shelia is a very disturbed child after years of abuse and abandonment. The other major character in this story is Torey. Torey is a special education teacher who has a classroom of 8 children with differing levels of special needs. Torey believes in all her children and strives to bring a normalcy to her classroom. Before she even met Shelia she felt a connection to her. Susie Salmon was 14 years old when she was murdered on December 6, 1973. She disappeared late one afternoon and was presumed to have been kidnapped or killed. Leaving her unfinished life behind, from her place in a strange but beautiful in between world she watches over her deeply affected family and killer. Susie’s main purpose was to help her father catch her killer and protect her family before finally moving on. As she observes her family’s daily lives, she balances her thirst for revenge with her desire for her family to heal. Although several scenes may seem unrealistic, the director Peter Jackson makes a unique and engaging film, appealing to powerful emotions and hopes.

Susie worries most about her gifted and petulant sister Lindsay. Lindsay is only one year younger but still is not told directly about what's happened to Susie; instead she hears telephone snippets and bits of conversations between her parents and the police. After hearing her father describe Susie's features, she asks her father not to lie to her, so he doesn't; but even answering her question, he can't face the truth of his words. Susie watches Lindsay sitting alone in her bedroom trying to harden herself. As the story unfolds, it is clear that Lindsay carries the hardest burden, because no one will ever be able to look at her and not think about Susie. By losing her sister, Lindsay is in danger of being robbed of herself.

Jack tells Len Fenerman about his suspicion, but Len doesn’t believe him. Through all of the drama of Susie’s murder her mother begins having an affair with detective Fenerman to find an escape from the real world. Susie’s mom would later move out to California to work for a winery. Throughout the book Lindsey starts to become suspicious of Mr. Harvey too. She breaks into his house and rips out a blueprint of an underground fort Mr. Harvey had drawn. Shortly after the break in Mr. Harvey leaves town and disappears Susie then tells us how all of the family members grow up and change. Lindsey gets married and has kids. Her mother eventually came back after finding out that her husband had suffered a heart attack. Jack and Abigail slamons fall back in love in his hospital room. Susie finally moves up into the wide wide Heaven and we learn that Mr. Harvey never gets caught by police, but instead ends up getting hit with an icicle during another attempted attack. After getting hit the the icicle, he falls into a ravine to his death. The last thing Susie explains to us is how Lindsey and her husband, Samuel, have a baby named Abigail Suzanne.

The characters in the story are the mother who played a huge role, although her name was never mentioned. She is a mother who got a second chance at having a family and is very controlling thinking she is doing what is best or her child.
