Border Patrol and U.S. CustomsBoth Border Patrol and U.S. Customs work together under the same agency, and worktowards the same goal, yet they perform their duty tasks differently. Protecting the nationsborders from drug smuggling, human trafficking, and terrorism is not an easy task to perform.Border Patrol agents and U.S. Customs officers perform this risky task on the front line of ourcountry by putting their lives in danger on a daily basis. CBP officers are given a certain station within the same base port, andare routinely moved inside of the port of entry to the outside part of the port of entry. BP agentsare designated a certain rural area which is out from base but in non habited areas. BP agents aredesignated vehicles to patrol the rural areas from alien crossing or any type of illegal activity. Asthe person I interviewed Carlos Cisneros current undercover Border Patrol “ Get yourassignment for the day, grab the keys to your vehicle, inspect it to make sire it’s alright.” CBP

Border Protection agents receive a governmentbenefit package which includes health, and life insurance. They both have a 401-k retirementplan, and share other retirement benefits. Any officer from CPB or BP can retire at age of 50 ifthey have worked for the agency a minimum of 20 years. Agents are also granted 13 days ofleave annually at an entry level, and with three to 14 years of job duty, they can be granted 20days of leave. After reaching 15 years of work duty, an officer becomes eligible for 206 days ofleave. In addition to the leave days officers can also take the 13 sick days per year that they arealso granted. BP Carlos Cisneros commented in the interview “yes, TSP.” BP agents and CBPofficers share the same retirement plan a TSP 401k.CBP officers and BP agents work in conjunction to prevent any illegal activity fromcrossing the border of the United States.
