Deciding on a career is an important life decision. In order to make an educated decision, reflection on what you want your life to be like is necessary. I would like a job where I can utilize my interest in math and science, have the opportunity to research, create, and develop revolutionary ideas and processes. In life, choosing is never easy. Choosing what to wear, eat, where to go, and how to live. Choosing what you want to do for the rest of your life, is as easy as walking to the moon and back. There is no brochure that gives you a sure set of bullet points as to what you would like to do, instead, we are meant to simply discover what we would enjoy doing most. Life is full of decisions. You have the choice to decide what you want to do for a career. Some may have jobs they wish they could change or made the decision before to have done something differently. The career you choose should be something you love, along with aspects that fit your values the best. Interest, skills, financially that you know you can excel in. A plan for life is important, so it’s best to know or have an idea on what you want to proceed in.

Choosing a career that you will have for the rest of your life is a challenge. But if you go for something you, love you will find happiness. In order to become anything in life there are levels of schooling and training you must go through. Which this paper is going to help give a better understanding of the career I am working towards. Along with informing of equity issues, steps towards achieving this career, and many more important factors.

Having a strict schedule, great job security, being people oriented, and having an independent job are the things I look for most when I’m looking at career options. I want a schedule where I can easily have an idea of what hours I will be working before the schedule is printed. I am also looking for great job security in the fact that if I am going to be going to school, I want to be able to do it once and be very good at it. I don’t want to have to switch through jobs because my current career isn’t holding out based on the world. I like helping people and I want to be able to save the ones I can. I am a very independent person and I would like to do a job where I have my own independent time where I can take control and learn from my own mistakes, but because I am also people oriented, I also would like to have a select few co-works that I can touch base with to make sure I am on the right track with my thinking.

There comes a time in life where individuals have to leave school to join the world of work whereby they will work their way up to the top. This is where career development comes into place. Career development is defined as progress through various stages in a career (Schreuder & Coetzee,2011). These are stages one goes through in order to mature in a career and for development to even exist, one has to start with making a career choice then developing it .A career choice can be defined as the relation between people’s personality types and their different occupational environment in which they work in.

In 1980, Donald Super introduced a theory that described career development in terms of life stages and life roles. Super was one of the first theorists to discuss the constantly evolving nature of career development, and the importance of finding a balance between career and personal life. Super’s developmental model emphasized how personal experiences interact with occupational preferences in creating one’s self-concept. Super discussed how each of us progress through various life and career development stages, including growth, exploration, establishment, maintenance, and disengagement. He also discussed that each of us take on different roles as we go through life, such as a child, student, leisurite, citizen, worker, parent, and spouse. Each of these roles has an impact on our personal and professional development, and on our work/life balance. Finally, his “archway” of career determinants detailed how both personality characteristics (intelligence, needs, values) and societal characteristics (labor market, school, family) influence our career choices and have a major impact on our career development.

For many people, finding a career that is both fulfilling and practical is a strenuous task. Fortunately, there is a plethora of different interventions, techniques, assessments, and inventories designed to aid those individuals in making the wisest career choices possible. But are any of those routes inherently better than the others? Or are all the differing options separate but equally effective? Donald Super’s Life Span Theory and John Holland’s Theory of Vocational Choice are just two of the many theories used for career counseling. Both methods are distinct in the way they approach career issues, yet despite their differences, there are some resemblances between the two theories as well. Comparing and contrasting these two theories will make it easier to see if one theory is better than the other for career counseling or if they are both equally effective.

One of the crucial moments in my life was the decision I had to take; as to what I was going to do next in life. Having completed my Advanced Level in 2013, I realized that it was not the end of my career as a student. I needed strong academic foundation along with other soft skills to meet the challenges and survive in this commercial world as a successful individual. In view of these thoughts, I was unable to make a firm decision as to what my career direction would be. After a month or so of various discussions with my parents, friends and other learned people I was able to reason out the best choice for me.

The first step to planning your career is to examine who you are as an individual, what you know about yourself, and what you want and need. You will then have the upper hand over your fellow students by being able to choose a career field in which you are truly happy to be in. These two qualities are the most important qualities for potential employers. Then even if the career field you have chosen has a lot of competition you will have the advantage of having the upper hand, because of you commitment, devotion, and eagerness for what you want to do.

My ideal career is to be a lead software developer. My responsibilities will be abundant as I will be responsible for overseeing projects and making sure things get done correctly and on time. While my job will be heavily based on developing software myself, another large portion will be mentoring and working with my coworkers to ensure efficiency and transparency. I will also be required to create reports to display progress on projects and system functions. My position will require I make general improvements to ensure work is done properly. Currently I am a freshman in college, but here are the steps I will take to convince you that I am the ideal candidate as a lead software developer.
