There comes a time in life where individuals have to leave school to join the world of work whereby they will work their way up to the top. This is where career development comes into place. The purpose of a career map is to allow you to organize your strengths and weaknesses associated to a specific career. In doing so, you are essentially outlining the needed information that a career may entail which allows you to do things in a timely matter. In addition, by doing things in a timely matter, you are staying on plan with a path you have created for yourself and improving the chances of you being successful. If you map out your pan and find that most of the unique skills needed is not something you have acquired, you can better prepare for alternatives.

Super was one of the first theorists to discuss the constantly evolving nature of career development, and the importance of finding a balance between career and personal life. Super’s developmental model emphasized how personal experiences interact with occupational preferences in creating one’s self-concept. Super discussed how each of us progress through various life and career development stages, including growth, exploration, establishment, maintenance, and disengagement. Careers are sometimes as fleeting as the dreams that encompass them. Often, individuals, in search of a career dream of financial security, the ability to purchase a dream home, or obtaining material possessions that may showcase their wealth or status.
