Deforestation conflicts and Solutions
The population in the majority of countries around the world is increasing, which places pressure on local economies to yield additional food or clear additional land for urban developmental urgencies such as housing and commerce, which leads to a method called deforestation. Cutting down forests not only generates revenue from sales such as that of timber, but also clears land for use in development. On the other hand, forests are vital fragments of local and global ecosystems. Cutting down forests, especially jungles and rain forests, often threatens not only species of wildlife but also decreases oxygen for us and ultimately contributes to dangerous factors such as global warming. Therefore, we have two stakeholders, one that believes in development, and one that believes in preservation. The points of view that are taken from both of these stakeholders may seem incompatible; however, the compromise of deforestation can be implemented through Eco-forestry, land use planning, and Reforestation.
The developmental stakeholder mentioned above, wants just that, development. They are regular citizens who wish to use the forests trees and land to expand urbanization and to use its sources beneficially. Some examples of these types of individuals are workers such as Farmers, Constructionists, Loggers, and Miners. Farmers use the method of deforestation to cut down trees to have greater areas for planting crops and raising livestock to
Deforestation presents in an abundance of ways, including fires, clear-cutting for agriculture, ranching and development, unsustainable logging for timber, and degradation due to climate change. The foremost reason of deforestation in Latin America is the requirement for food, fuel, shelter, and foreign exchange. Year on year, a space of tropical forest the size of Great Britain is "converted" from an area equal to the size of Europe. Ever since 1950, according to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), half of the world 's forests have disappeared. “Latin America has lost 37 percent of its tropical forests,” says the FAO. As more and more of Latin American forest are degraded, more and more detrimental effects are being seen. Deforestation is changing a number of resources for tribal groups, altering their way of life, temperatures are increasing at a dangerous rate because of a buildup of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, habitats and species such as plants and wildlife are being annexed due to the destructive effects of deforestation. Deforestation is inarguably helpful to supplying money to countries that sell the products from the forest, but huge wealth being generated from the forests comes with large-scale environmental and social costs. The local residences are not benefitting and the funds are being siphoned out of the region.
Over half of the world’s forests have been destroyed in the last 10,000 years. An extensive fire that destroys a great deal of land or property could be thought to help “benefit” the economic or environmental aspects of daily life, but the society is clueless on the harm it is causing. Nearly half of the Earth's original forest cover has already been lost and each year an additional 32 million acres are destroyed. Our world is facing the greatest extinction crisis since the fall of the dinosaurs, 65 million years ago. The future of many of Earth's plants and animals will be determined within the next few decades. Hopefully, it comes as no great surprise to you that deforestation is a major problem in many areas of the world, both in terms of
The affect of environmental issues occur everyday and in particular deforestation is becoming a highly ranked subject. From animals to the human race, the alacrity of trees that are cut down affects every individual in a variety of ways. Not only do people need to help the planet but they need to help themselves and further generations to come, such as children and grandchildren because these natural resources that are being taken away from society are as well shaping the future. For comprehensible reasons, forests use to make up the world, until man made creatures started to destroy and destruct the most important supply to human kind which are trees. Trees are crucial to every living entity for the reason of providing oxygen to all.
However, forests around the world are under threat from deforestation, jeopardizing these benefits. Deforestation comes in many forms, including fires, clear-cutting for agriculture, ranching and development, unsustainable logging for timber, and degradation due to climate change. This impacts people’s livelihoods and threatens a wide range of plant and animal species. Some 46-58 thousand square miles of forest are lost each year, which is equivalent to 36 football fields every minute.
Deforestation is the destruction of a wide area of forest land into a cleared land that is used for a variety of reasons. The impact on the environment from cutting down, burning and damaging forests is very detrimental and there are severe consequences for the environment and future generations because of deforestation. According to the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization approximately 7.3 million hectares of forests are being destroyed per year in the world (Bradford, 2015). In this essay, I will explore the impact that deforestation on the environment and I will also look at the actions that are being taken to prevent deforestation. There are various reasons why deforestation is occurring despite its negative effects on the environment. Deforestation can cause very serious environmental problems such as climate change, flooding, loss of habitats as well as others.
From 1990 to 2005, deforestation, or the removal of trees, was happening at an average rate of 13 million hectares (32.11 million acres) per year (Hope 247). In many ways, deforestation has been the reason for great economic success which turns people on to the idea even more. Deforestation is an essential element in promoting and encouraging developmental growth. Some places around the world may feel obligated to resort to deforestation due to population increases around the world. The concept of deforestation may seem to have a positive impact on society, but many people fail to consider the importance of replanting the trees that were harvested and removed. Deforestation mainly affects North and South America, but because of the Transamazon
Deforestation is an environmental problem everybody gets affected by; but not equally. Cutting down trees and degrading the soil of an eco-system can change it for the worse and leave it unrecoverable. The Amazon Rainforest is a large and very biodiverse ecosystem that stretches across 5,500,000 kilometers. The Amazon Rainforest is not a stranger to deforestation since the late 1960’s. Deforestation in the amazon forest will cripple all organisms that rely heavily on the forest to provide for a sustainable life, while others not directly impacted may benefit from it. Other people may benefit from the deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest from the profit that comes with the use of land for agriculture/livestock. However, the tribes, plants, and animals, that live in the Amazon Rainforest suffer from the loss of Biodiversity, the habitat and resources that are being taken away from clearing forests, and the reduced air quality along with the increased carbon emissions. Deforestation is a process of demolition towards the ecosystem.
Deforestation is the process of cutting down forests to use their resources for other purposes. Deforestation is very common in developing nations, for example, those in Sub-Saharan Africa. This deforestation is often related to the levels of poverty and population growth in these nations (Uneke, 2009). Whether it is through the available resources and land (Afrane, 2008) offered by the forests or a job cutting down trees (Uneke, 2009), millions of people of surviving through deforestation.
Why anti-deforestation pledge is important? According to the United Nations summit is the perpetuation of what all types of forests and forest lands do of roles and multiple tasks. The basis of this work due to significant weakness in policies and approaches and mechanisms adopted for the development of ecological, economic, social and cultural multi-trees roles and forests and forest land.
At first there was concern only among foresters about deforestation but now the public has created organizations such as Green Peace to facilitate increased awareness and reduce deforestation. The Food and Agriculture Organization (F.A.O.) has worked mainly within the forestry community to find new and better ways to manage the forests. In 1985 there was the introduction of the Tropical Forestry Action Plan or T.F.A.P. This plan involved the F.A.O, United Nations, World Bank, other developmental agencies, and several other multi-national government organizations; together they developed a new strategy. More than sixty countries have decided to prepare national forestry action plans to manage their forests (Gallant, 381).
Although the cries for deforestation to be stopped may not be heard by those in power, or by companies whose business and profits depend on doing so, many individuals were shown that this is a problem. According to the World Wildlife Fund, its goal is to “… eliminate one of the largest drivers of deforestation… prevent the irresponsible expansion of agricultural operations.” The World Wildlife Fund is also committed to ensuring that businesses, government, and others meet their commitments to help conserve the world forests, and protect the only world we
An environmental issue that has been affecting the globe for years is deforestation. National Geographic defines deforestation as the clearing of forests in the world on a massive scale, which usually results in damage to the land quality. Each year, approximately eighteen million acres of forest are destroyed and until date, almost half of the tropical forests worldwide have been cleared. (“Deforestation: Facts, Causes & Effects”)
Deforestation is one of the many problems this world faces today. Many people are unaware of how harmful deforestation can be towards the environment and the animals that inhabit the area. Many people don’t even know what deforestation is and that it’s actually happening. To sum it all up, deforestation is the process of destroying forests by cutting them down or burning the trees down, destroying hundreds of acres in order to make more land available for other uses thinking that the benefits outweigh the costs. However these “uses” leave negative effects causing the population of forests and animals that inhabit it too decrease tremendously all for shopping plazas and new freeways with hundreds of tolls. Not to mention the unexpected effects that could happen towards the environment for example global warming. The act of deforestation for new land is harmful towards the environment and should be stopped. Many forests are being destroyed and leaving many animals and other species without a home to survive which plays a factor on the rise of endangered species.
Deforestation is a problem that does not concern many people, but it is an issue that the people of Earth need to deal with. In the past 50 years deforestation has increased a significant amount, but people around the world have been removing the forests since the 1600s. The forests remaining are in danger as the human population goes up, the need for resources will also increase and this will make the deforestation of the last forests come quicker before humans realize it is too late. Unless the people address this threat to the world, it will be too late because this is something that can be fixed, the forests can be rebuilt but it has to start right now before there is nothing people can do. There are many causes for deforestation such as, clearing space for urbanization, making areas available for houses, or harvesting the lumber for goods and other consumer items and all of these have an effect on the world. The consequences of deforestation can affect all aspects of life on Earth, including the water cycle, the soil, and the life quality of species around the world.
Humans have always cleared the forest for our own interests, but in the past, the process was slow and only limited regions were deforested, generally for subsistence agriculture. However, today, humanity is far more efficient at clearing the forest with our advanced technology and machinery and our almost maniacal drive to earn profits in the near term. Ranching Cattle ranches are created in the rainforest for many fast food companies.
