Cellular Respiration Lab Report

Decent Essays

Cellular respiration is a very important process that provides the human body with energy. How does cellular respiration provide the human body with energy? Cellular respiration is the process of energy rich molecules such as glucose being broken down to carbon dioxide, water and ATP. The process of cellular respiration is an aerobic process meaning it requires oxygen. Aerobic cellular respiration is very efficient. It produces up to 38 molecules of ATP for each molecule of glucose. In this lab germinating and non-germinating soybeans were used to show aerobic cellular respiration. Germination is the process of a plant growing from a seed to a full plant. When germination begins and the seed starts to grow cellular respiration provides them …show more content…

Aerobic cellular respiration is the most efficient process, but is not the only form of cellular respiration. There is also anaerobic respiration, which does not need oxygen present. The process of anaerobic respiration only produces 2 molecules of ATP for each molecule of glucose. The amount of oxygen that is used by the soybeans will be measured using a respirometer. The germination soybeans will consume more oxygen than the non-germinating soybeans and glass beads and the longer the soybeans are in the respirometer the more oxygen they will consume. Methods: The experiment that was being tested was the germination of soybeans, the non-germination of soybeans and glass beads. First three vials were marked 1, 2 and 3. Then a small wad of dry cotton was placed into the bottom of the three vials. In vials 1, 2 and 3 use a dropper to saturate the cotton with 15%
