The industrial revolution began in Great Britain during the 18th century and ended in the 19th century. Many new inventions were created in the industrial revolution such as the steam engine, cotton gin, steel, sewing machines, and many more. The industrial revolution was a major impact during this time period but the factories’ conditions were dreadful for children , especially when it came to their safety. Children safety wasn’t important to factory owners. Factory owners were only seeking their profits and how to make more of it without spending too much. Some of the children who were employed in these types factories were “Parish apprentice children”. Parish apprentice children were children who were put into these factories. They were from the government and put into orphanages. Factory owners manipulated orphanages by claiming that they will feed, take care, and put clothes on their back for these children. They took advantage and used them as their slaves and didn't even pay their money that they worked hard for , they usually got away with it.Most children began to work by the age of six just to support their family in their economic issues. Most factory owners employed children due to their size and they were less of a hassle, child laborers were easier to control and to supervise. Children were not paid as much as adults but every bit of money helped, most families had economic troubles and had to work hard for the insignificant amount of money they received. They had no say in anything and the factory owners did not care for them. Instead of getting an education they had to work to maintain economic stability for their family. Some children in fact dropped out of school in order to help their family financially. The treatment of the child laborers was usually inhumane and relentless the youngest children who worked in factories were demanded to work in textiles. According to “child labor in factories” majority of the child laborers were over the age of fourteen. Child laborers were treated harshly and bitterly , the owners did not apply attention to child laborers safety.
