The word hero describes a person who is confident, brave, and determined. A person who dedicates their lives to others and are renowned for their outstanding achievements. Their actions improve the world and people around them. Chris Kyle possessed all the qualities of a hero: he was selfless, influential, and willing to do anything for the benefit of others. Chris’s life was one of a hero, although it did not appear as such in his early years Chris kyle was born April 8th 1974 in Odessa, Texas. “Chris grew up on a ranch and experienced a childhood that was shaped by outdoor pursuits” (Chris kyle Biography). During his time on the ranch above all Chris loved hunting with his father and brother. Chris’s love of guns would later translate into him seeking a career in the military. For two years Chris studied agriculture at Tarleton State University before leaving to acquire a job as a ranch hand. In spite of Chris’s pleasant childhood and a job he loved, he felt as if he was meant to do more for himself and …show more content…
In all his years in the military Chris served four deployments in Iraq and by his own account shot and killed 160 people, a record in U.S history. Also during his time as a Navy seal Chris met his wife Taya and they would go on to have two children together. Chris’s accuracy was feared and respected not just by his comrades but by the militants he combated. Chris Kyle received two awards of the silver star and five for bronze. Chris’s renowned prowess as a sniper, awards of heroism and acclaimed 160 kills made him famous which led to the result of his book and movie. Many of these reasons are why I chose Chris kyle for my hero essay. He was an American war hero, he put his life on the line to serve his country, and received many awards of heroism in battle. Unfortunately several years after Chris left the military in 2009 he was murdered on a gun range by a former marine who had a history of mental
Heroes come in different shapes, sizes, and looks. Maybe someone you saw on the street one day was heroic for saving someone’s life in a car accident. A hero to me is someone who can be brave in situations that aren’t so safe, and take a risk to make sure everyone is okay, no matter who
He succeeded in getting good grades at school but defied the rules his teachers laid out for him. Chris learned guitar, piano, and french-horn as he was growing up. He later became a talented French-horn player, and was a member of the American University Symphony. Chris succeeded in forming a strong bond with his sister, Carine. Carine remembers him as her best friend. He was always there to protect her. Chris did well when he played sports. He never kept up playing them though, because he didn't agree with the rules and techniques. In high school, Chris was the captain of his Cross Country team. He set standards for himself to run his best. If he didn't succeed, he would be disappointed with himself. Chris thought he could do anything, all it required was for him to decide to do it. He once told a friend that they could raise the money to travel to South Africa to fight apartheid. On the weekends, McCandless would stay away from trying to sneak into bars, and instead talk to homeless people and prostitutes. Chris succeeded in trying to improve their lives. During Chris's junior year, he was hired by a building contractor and became a successful salesman. He was a prized
Chris makes sure his son gets sleep and gets to eat. When he eats at the restaurants, his son is the only one eating. He wants to keep him happy, so he took him to a football game and got him a basketball. This shows that Chris cares for his son and he wants to keep him happy. This also shows that Chris wants to keep his son safe. Chris was able to take care of his son and to make him happy. Chris wanted him to have a better experience in life. Through perseverance, Chris achieves his goals by taking care of his son.
If you attempted to talk him out of something, he wouldn’t argue. He would just nod politely and then do exactly what he wanted” (Krakauer 182). Chris did exactly as Carine stated he would when someone tried to stop his trip to Alaska. Chris understood what the trip to Alaska would entail but decided to continue anyway. He was confident in his abilities and constantly felt the need to challenge those abilities. According to Jon Krakauer, “He had a need to test himself in ways, as he was fond of saying ‘that mattered’. He possessed grand- some would say grandiose- spiritual ambitions” (Krakauer 182). Although Chris’s ambition is surely admirable it also could be credited as his tragic flaw. Chris strived for perfection in everything he set his mind to. He refused to listen to individuals who were trying to help him when saying he was ill prepared; instead he ignored their efforts and went into the wild. Chris’s unpreparedness could later be identified as the cause of his death but in his mind, his supporters would like to believe, it did not matter. Chris died doing what he loved, living in isolation with nature being his only companion.
It is impossible to fully apprehend what was going through Chris’s mind and how it worked. But we can grasp that his resentment towards his father was deep. He was predetermined to become someone so different from his father because Chris didn’t care for or look up to the kind of person he was. Although he respected how he came up from nothing and made something of himself.
There is more to being a hero than just saving lives. A hero can be defined as someone who is courageous and admired for brave acts. Christopher McCandless sets out on a journey across North America to find himself and escape from the cookie cutter schedule that the average person goes through day after day.
Chris McCandles was fooled his escape. He had a really negative and dark look at societies and the world overall. Although he was abused when he was young, like many other millions, he thought that his escape was the solution. But in reality, it did nothing to him, and it was absolutely pointless.
The book “Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer, has brought up different opinions about the main character Christopher Johnson McCandless, also known as “Alex”. Some may believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to live as his literary influences, but the real reason he left was that he did not like the way his life was going, the way everyone acted, the way everyone was consumed with the consumption of physical possessions. As well as to escape the turmoil with his parents due to his resentment towards his father always trying to buy him things to make up for the fact that he was married to another woman and had cheated on his mother. This resentment could have been what drove him to do the things that he did and cause him to go on these to what would seem to the average person, wild and crazy adventures.
The novel Into the Wild written by Jon Krakauer revealed the true identity of Chris McCandless, or as one might say, Alex Supertramp who was his alter ego when he left home to start a new adventure. Chris did not know his long journey to Alaska would end up taking his life. There are many different opinions about Chris, but the question is “Is Chris McCandless a hero?” While Chris, by definition is a Romantic Hero, he was not a hero using the traditional definition because he hurt everyone that loved him.
For the reader to understand Chris’s journey you have to understand Chris and where he came from. Chris came from a family that kept a secret from him for most of his life that he was a bastard child and his father was very abusive to Chris’s mother. Since Chris has found out about that this his view on his parents has been tarnished
Psychologists agree that a person’s mental state and confidence is directly correlated to the environment an adolescent develops in. Because Chris had little control over the environment he grew up in and things he was exposed to, i.e. his bourgeois lifestyle, and unfaithful dad, it’s wrong to say that his desire for independence and dissociation from his family could have and should have been changed as an adult. McCandless’ death was a result of his adolescence and his desire for something bigger than an inheritance and a job, he wanted to be independent and I can’t blame him for
Along his journey, Chris came in contact with many people, all of which liked him in one way or another. He had some sort of appealing charm. Chris was recognized by everyone as a very hard worker. “‘He was the hardest worker I’ve ever seen. Didn’t matter what it was, he’d do it…
Chris Kyle had a fairly good early life. The son of a church deacon, Chris Kyle grew up on a ranch and experienced a childhood that was shaped by outdoor pursuits. Chris Kyle was born in Odessa, Texas on April 8, 1974. His father bought him his first rifle at the age of eight. Chris and his father would hunt deer, pheasant,
Chris is a great young man. We learned about this man through the movie "Into The Wild". He goes through a great journey in order to test himself and also the other people around him. He had what every young man wanted and he had great success coming his way but that all changed when he noticed it was nothing he truly wanted for his future. He shows that you must pursue what you want in life go get it but also how you must be very careful and actually be ready for whatever you are going to be doing.
