Asperger´s disorder is not a disease, but a developmental brain disorder. It is four times more prevalent in boys than in girls and it shows no racial, ethnic or social boundaries. Family income, lifestyle and educational levels do not affect the chance of Asperger´s disorder's occurrence. According to Hans Asperger:

Daniel Boone was born on October 22, 1734 and later died on September 26, 1820. He was an American pioneer and hunter whose frontier explorations made him one of the first heroes of the United States. Boone is most famous for his exploration and settlement of what is now the state of Kentucky. Despite resistance from American Indians, for whom Kentucky was a traditional hunting ground, in 1775 Boone blazed the Wilderness Road through the Cumberland Gap and into Kentucky. There he founded Boonesborough, one of the first English-speaking settlements beyond the Appalachian Mountains. Before the end of the 18th century, more than 200,000 people entered Kentucky by following the route marked by Boone.

Have you ever had a friend that acted different than everyone else and wondered why? Some people that act differently may suffer from a condition known as Asperger’s. Asperger's is a syndrome of Autism that presents many challenges, yet also has benefits as well. This condition often goes unrecognized in young children because it is on the lower level spectrum of Autism. Actually, I picked this topic because I have this condition myself. Asperger’s main symptoms include; limited social interaction, “robotic” or repetitive speech, lack of eye contact, and obsessions with unusual topics. Some advantages are intelligence, faster learning, and special services in school. Some disadvantages can include a deficit of communication, and depression.

Disability is a topic viewed differently by each set of eyes. To truly understand a disability, one must live through it or frequently view the lives of another, struggling with an infirmity. Living with a disability may be hard, but it does not mean it is not worth living. Nancy Mairs, author of the essay “On Being a Cripple,” has written about her views and experiences, explaining to the public the truth behind being a “cripple,” and proving that disease does not control you. Throughout history, disabled people have been profoundly discriminated against. Our society today has become more accepting of people for who they are, but there are still many challenges in this area. In his short story “The Scarlet Ibis,” Hurst works to raise awareness and sensitivity towards children and other people with disabilities by demonstrating how disabled children were generally treated in this time period, by illuminating how the narrator eventually makes connections with his special needs brother, Doodle, and by painting a vivid picture of how the unattainable expectations placed upon Doodle became too much for him to bear.

To most a disability seems like a hinderance, but to others it's what makes them unique, and they shouldn't be frowned upon for it. In the novel The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night-Time by Mark Haddon the main protagonist Christopher John Francis Boone faces both internal and external conflicts and this helps build up courage and bravery. He is faced with mystery and having to deal with his family at the same time. He needs to conquer bravery yet stay away from danger. Lastly, he needs to learn how to accept and forgive while fighting against his disability. After all of these difficult tasks he grows as a person and discovers who he truly is. We all have a little Christopher inside of us.

Aspergers syndrome is a type of pervasive development disorder or PDD. PDD’s are a group of conditions that involve delays in the development of many basic skills such as; the ability to socialize with others, to communicate and using their imagination( Aspergers). It was discovered by Hans Asperger who was a viennese physician who recognizes this disorder in the 1940’s. Autism and Asperger are not new disabilities and many people are still undiagnosed. After over 70 years, how to diagnose, treat, and understand these disabilities are still being researched. DSM-5 addressed the possible confusion of diagnosing these disorders, increased costs, and high numbers of people diagnosed with Autism by changing the criteria to a spectrum and removing Asperger’s disorder.
