The post-Civil War, also known as the extended period that came to be known as the Gilded Age, was largely centered around and influenced by big business and corporations. The newfound efficiency of resources and mass production resulted in a wide variety of available products but also a wide divide between classes and a misdistribution of power that led to the forming of unions and passing of anti-trust legislation. Good Question. I'm here to answer them. But first let's talk about what it was. It was a war in the United States of America about the North and South. America was splitting up side vs side. The Union vs The Confederates. Now back to why everything got messed up and had a war and a half million lives lost. The United States of America had a Civil War because slavery, sectionalism, and disagreements about compromises.

If the American Civil War had ended other than it did—or if the federal government and the northern states decided to pursue a negotiated separation from the south—residents of the Confederate States of America (CSA) might still be celebrating their Independence today.

It can be inferred that the Confederate states fought for slavery, as it is a major part of their arguments. While the entire Confederacy ratified the Ordinance of Secession, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Texas also created declarations of causes, each state explaining the reasons as to why they were seceding. Additionally, some key leaders to the secession believed that Lincoln was on a warpath and was determined to abolish slavery as those before him had begun the process.

The U.S. Civil War was the deadliest war in United States history up until that time. The Civil War caused the deaths of over 600,000 people. The reasons for this are slavery, tariffs, and the Fugitive Slave Law. Slavery was a something that Southerners wanted, however most people in The North were not in favor of slavery. The Fugitive Slave Law let the people in The South search people’s homes for their missing slaves. This led up to The Civil War because of how unfair and pathetic the law was. Tariffs were passed in 1828 and 1832, which “raised the issue of the states’ rights. The next thing that was passed was the Fugitive Slave Law. This law made the people in The South able to “decide for themselves whether to be a slave or free by a vote.”

The civil war was an ugly fight between the North, which was called the Union, they were against slavery, and the South who were called the Confederacy, they were for slavery.

During the mid-1800’s, the United States at that point could no longer find room to compromise on their views, and the secession of the South from the North showed the beginning of the Civil War. Both sides believed they were fighting for what was right: the Union for the equality and the Confederacy for the liberty of states’ rights. As there was virtually no room for compromise whatsoever, both sides perceived the other as trying to do what would work out to have the higher benefit for them. The sides both generally felt that the war was needed, but the Union felt that the war was a barrier in the growth of the country as a whole and the division was not how the country should stand.

This chapter mainly covers the issue involving the Union and the Proclamation said by Abraham Lincoln. To begin with, Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation of Proclamation on January 1st, 1863. The proclamation stated that all the people who were being held as slaves would be free forever. The problem was that not many people saw emancipation as a goal for the Union due to the fact that not many soldiers would fight if it were for emancipation. Not only that but many of the slaves were used to fight for the Southern cause or to help it and by doing so they were only harming the Northern cause.

African Americans have been enslaved since 1619 when a Dutch ship brought 20 of them ashore in the British colony of Jamestown, Virginia. From then on slavery was practiced throughout American Colonies. As time went on people soon started to have arguments dealing with the rights and wrongs of slavery which led to protests, violence and war. The Dutch had started a slavery system that turned into a type of cruelty that divided the nation. Slavery has had a great impact in start and end of the civil war between the South and North.

The war had started with the whole conflict on how slavery should be handled with, leading to a bunch of arguments up in the North and the South. Until the south had said “Enough!” and decided to make its separate government for they had no longer agreed to the constitution and government, this is how the war had started. This war was about whether the south should be able to separate from the Union, it was only until the Emancipation Proclamation that everything had changed. The modern concept of the word “war”, refers to a state of armed conflict and is often the physical response to an irreconcilable dispute between two or more groups. Differentiating opinions have provoked many men to take up arms and fight their adversary. However, the motives behind taking up arms to fight, usually depended upon which side one was fighting on. As a result, the debate over the question, “Why was there a Civil War” is very complicated, but it can best be explained by considering the cultural differences between the Northern and the Southern States and examining their unwillingness to find acceptable solutions to settle their differences.

The civil war was mainly sparked by tensions between the north and the south. Both sides rarely agreed on topics and could never make a compromise. Slavery was a big reason for the start of the civil war, but the causes don’t end there. Although some may say that political or economic reasons started the civil war between the north and the south, political reasons were the real cause. This is because of important decisions made by the government, and the south seceding.
