Climate Change
Climate change is a problem that we have been and are currently experiencing. It has caused much damage to people and the environment, by temperatures rising and natural disasters. It is a problem that world leaders need to take more seriously, and try to get more people involved to help better the environment. Who knows what it can cause in the future. Climate change is a serious threat for everyone living on earth. The Earth’s temperature has been rising over the years. Sail Bhattacharya a professor & head of a medical college claims that over the last 8000 years, Earth’s surface temperature raised by 1 degree Celsius only (1). He also said, at the present rate of global temperature would rise by 2.5 degrees Celsius by 2050” (1). It’s a fact that the earth has gotten warmer over the years. At this moment the temperature hasn't raised much, only 1 degree Celsius. It may seem like it’s not a big deal, but it actually is, because the rising temperature rate is increasing as time passes according to Sail Bhattacharya (1). The temperature rising might not cause much harm now, but can badly affect us or whoever is living on Earth in the future. Climate change is caused by most human activities. Most of us humans harm the earth every day. Some may know what we do is harming the earth, but still do it, and some people may not have a clue. A research professor in the Learning at the Harvard Graduate School of Education said that a large, nationally
In the world as we know it, temperatures keep rising every year. The worldwide average temperature has climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit since the year 1880 (). This is due to carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gasses in our
Climate change is a problem in the world today. Climate change is destroying Antarctica, endangering hundreds of millions of lives, and can be effectively reduced by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Most of the blame for climate change over the years especially after the 1850’s has been placed on humans. As long as modern humans have roamed the earth, they have been upsetting the natural balance of the earth. People have did this by clearing areas of land, killing animals, polluting water, etc. Before the “modern human”, people like the Native Americans cared for the earth. They respected the land and the people that cared for it. Unfortunately, people don’t care anymore. Until recently, people did not care for the earth. People did not realize the harm they were causing it. Now we know how detrimental things are that we continue to do and used to do.
Climate change and global warming is not a myth or a faux like most people believe, they are real and it's affecting everyone in the world. Even if they don't realize it right now, they soon will. Climate change and global warming are caused by human activity. Global warming and climate change is not just a phase and not enough is being done to stop it and to help save our earth's natural resources like our water, air, and soil.
Global warming was first mentioned by ‘Svante August Arrhenius in 1896’, but in ‘1753, Joseph Black discovered carbon dioxide’ and in ‘1827, Jean-Batiste Fourier suggested that atmospheric effect kept the earth warmer than it would otherwise be’, (Direct.gov. n.d. A history of climate change). Since this time, reports, and study have be done with graphs to show the impact of global warming and what could happen to our planet. In 1979, the first conference was held this was called ‘International climate science’ it called on governments to ‘foresee and prevent man-made changes in climate’. 1988, the ‘IPCC’ was setup by the ‘United Nations’ to look at reports and the findings, they advised measures to stop ‘greenhouse gases to prevent global
Global climate change is no big secret--things are heating up and humans are starting to
The climate and weather are something that the Energy Sector and its partner cannot change or avoid. At the moment, “energy production and distribution systems are designed to respond to weather variability” for short interval such as day to day, week to week, month to month, or year to year (U.S. Department of Homeland, n.d.-r). Any large-scale disaster may cripple the short-term supply of energy as it stands for the current situation (U.S. Department of Homeland, n.d.-r). To remedy such an issue, the President signed Executive Order 13653 in November 2013 title “” Preparing the United States for the Impacts of Climate Change”” (U.S. Department of Homeland, n.d.-r). The Executive Order “established an interagency Council on Climate
We've been told repeatedly throughout the years that our earth's climate continues to change. However, it is rare that during these conversations the possibility of there being an unceasing increase in the temperatures in our oceans due to climate change brought up specifically. There being a potential rise in temperature and the ramifications that such a thing would bring are what this particular article is written about. Even though the study itself took years to conduct, its' initial hypothesis of the various scientists involved was somewhat of a simple one, it was that "[c]limate change will dramatically alter life in the oceans" (Zimmer, 2017). This seems like a pretty safe assumption
One of the biggest problems the world is facing today is climate change. Climate change in the world can be caused by numerous activities including human activities. Climate change occurs when the temperature rises significantly, which leads to many different changes happening on Earth such less snow in the winter. These changes include floods, drought, or intense rain, as well as severe heat waves. One of the biggest problems is rising sea level, other cases are melting of glaciers, heating, and acidity of oceans.
A part of climate change is caused by natural forces, though humans unquestionably do contribute to the effects of climate change. As a whole, society, we all impact climate change. This cannot be blamed on an individual and their choices. Those people have not chosen to be affected by climate change in any way. They did not have free choice in whether or not to contribute to climate change. It wasn’t a few people that added on to the effects due to selfishness or cruelty and people don’t contribute based on psychological or physical issues within themselves. With all of our combined actions that add on to the effects of climate change, we have what we see today.
Climate change is at its all-time high. It has taken impact on the planet through the most recent century. The human race as a whole does not take the subject of matter serious. Climate change is caused by many factors, humans seem to be one of the greatest factors. Over the years the human race has caused a great influence on climate change and as the years go by the damages are worse than the years before. The impacts of climate change are continually ending up more obvious across the world. The amounts of carbon dioxide, which is known as one of the main heat-trapping greenhouse gas that is produced by humans, are the highest it has ever been in three million years. (Weeks 522)
The Impacts of Climate Change on Society: Global climate change has the ability to adversely impact and disrupt many sectors of society —including, people’s health, agriculture and food supply, water supply, ecosystems, and more. Extreme weather events, such as decreased rainfall, lead to prolonged and more intense wildfire seasons which result in decreased air quality for those in proximity. Droughts increase the stress placed on ground water supplies which is resulting a reduction of water quality due to increased contamination following intense period of rainfall (“Impacts”). Rising temperatures and increased greenhouse gas emissions have led to increased air pollution (i.e. aerosols and black carbon) which is detrimental to individual’s with respiratory problems. Additionally, dry conditions have resulted in an increase in the intensity and duration of allergy seasons in addition to an increase in the spread of insect borne diseases (“Global Warming”). Furthermore, sea level rise and more intense storms puts coastal communities at risk of catastrophic storm surges and flood damage (“Impacts”). Ecosystems that act as natural buffers to combat the impacts of severe weather related events (such as floods and fires) are being devastated. For example, increasing acidification of the oceans in addition to overfishing have disrupted marine-based food production and harmed fishing industries (“Impacts”). The United States energy infrastructure, primarily relating to electricity,
Global warming is defined as the global increase in the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. According to NASA, January 2016 was the hottest January as it was 1.13 degrees Celsius above the 1951-1980 average (Erdman, 2016). Humans participate in increasing the concentration of carbon dioxide, methane and other greenhouse gases that act like a blanket that traps the heat. And this appear from the combustion of fossil fuel and the different industries which release a large amount of CO2. Moreover, cutting millions of trees to provide there different needs such as: papers and furniture. In fact, trees play a critical role in decreasing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere through using it in the photosynthesis process. As reported by Union of Concerned Scientists that CO2 today are 25% higher than in 1957. Due to the releasing of CO2 and chlorofluorocarbons to the atmosphere that lead to ozone layer depletion, more sunlight is passing to the earth surface. In addition, the natural disaster has the role in rising the temperature, for example: volcanoes. This essay will state the scientific problems of climate change and how it threatens the life of organisms. Also, it will suggest solutions for this problem.
All that needs to be done for a person to see that climate change is upon the world is to look outside. The seasons that used to be defined by their drastically different weather have started to blend into a year-long battle for hot and cold, along with unusual rainfall during typically dry spells. Climate change is the change in global or regional climate patterns. Global warming is the idea that the world is being heated by a few degrees every year brought on by an increase in carbon dioxide levels from the growing use of fossil fuels. Together these two things will begin to change the habitats as we know them and could devastate the world as we know it. There have been many studies on the changing climate, and people have begun to realize how significant of an issue this is in present time. The government and the EPA have released many bulletins on changes that are currently taking place, and have projected that it will only continue to escalate to the point that humankind will have a minuscule chance of survival. There are those who do not agree that people are causing the shut-down of the climates, or adding to the breakdown of the ozone layer that protects us from radiation in the atmosphere. Some scientists refuse to accept that taking any preventative measures will have any impact on the climate changes, in lieu of the astounding evidence that points to us being the major contributors of the carbon dioxide buildup in the air. Despite what some scientists believe,
Through the eyes of most scientists, global warming is seen as a very serious and severe threat. The actions taken by humans, such as industry and consumption of fossil fuels plus the increase in population and agriculture have played a big part in global warming. If something is not done soon the results could be very bad.
