The Stamp Act caused colonists to pay on good they did not pay normally. The colonists rioted because the British taxed them on goods so they could pay of debt. The reason for taxing was to pay off their debt, in order to do this they had to charge the colonists which started up the trouble between the colonies and England. The British were mad because they colonists were rioting and they did not know why. The british needed to pay back debt and they taxed the colonies to do so. Governor Thomas was told that night that, "After dinner it was whispered in town that there would be a mob at night and that the custom-house and admiralty officer’s houses would be attacked." This shows how the British would then be more afraid of the colonists
After the French and Indian War, Britain went into debt. To pay off this debt they taxed the colonists. The colonists were not happy with these taxes because they didn’t have representation in Parliament. The Stamp Act and the Tea Act were two acts that Parliament passed. There were multiple actions of the British government after 1763 that caused anger in the colonies, leading to the Declaration of Independence.
The French and Indian war (1754-1763) commonly known as the seven year war. The war was between New France and the colonies of British America. The reason for the war was for control of North America and the fur trade. The Treaty of Paris was the treaty that marked the ending of the French and Indian War. The treaty gave the British control over the area west of the thirteen colonies to the Mississippi River.
There were several acts that were passed without the consideration of the colonists that would force them to pay a ridiculous amount of taxes to the British mainland. One of these acts was named the Stamp Act, which was enacted in 1765, forced the colonists to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper that they used. This would include legal documents, license, commercial contracts and newspapers in the tax. This tax mostly effected the wealthier and influential of the colonists and would force them to unite in opposition. There were several other acts that would be passed that would force the colonists to pay undue taxes to the British, such as the Quartering Act and the Tea
When Great Britain controlled the colonies, the Colonists could not live the life they wanted to. They had low paying jobs, were not treated well by the king and his soldiers, and on top of that Britain posted extra taxes on goods. The colonists were already poor from low pay jobs, so taxes just added
When the British Parliament passed the Stamp Act, which was a internal tax on every printed piece of paper, the colonists were offended that the tax was imposed on them without consent from the colonial legislature. The British were using the colonies to help pay off debt for the previous Seven
In the time period of 1750-1776 tensions had risen between the colonists and England. Circumstances had gotten worse than before. Colonists got very mad because the English Parliament passed many acts that raised taxes. In reply to the taxes the colonists revolted and took a stand. Document A shows that in 1754 the Pennsylvania Gazette printed a cartoon of a snake that represented the colonies which were divided in eight pieces, Georgia and Rhode Island were not included in the snake.
The colonists got angry because of their carelessness. Because of how selfish Britain was, the colonists fought back for their
Since great britain didn't get the taxes from the East Indian Trade Company, they had to get it somewhere else so they taxed the colonies. The colonies were enraged and started protesting peacefully.
America, at the time, was upset with many things. Many of the issues the colonists went through were started by Great Britain, the mother country of America. Great Britain introduced high taxes on significant products including paper, wax, tea, molasses, and other valuable goods. Then came the Boston Massacre, involving quartered English Troops and Boston Colonists. The colonists despised the quartered troops.
The people of the colonies were very angry about all the stupid taxes Britain had put on them without their consent, and were upset that they were being treated so unfairly. The colonists also had no representatives in Parliament to
The colonists were mad at the king because he forced them to fight in a war they did not want part it. During the war, which we had already been fighting, the king had impressed us into the British army and we were forced to leave behind our families and fight in the war. And when the war was finished, we were forced to pay for the war expenses through internal taxes. The king had not internally taxed us in over a century, so the taxes worsened the crack. In a time of peace, there were standing soldiers kept in the colonies, which lead to the Boston massacre. All these were made okay because of the acts in which Parliament passed. The quartering act forced us to provide housing and supplies to soldiers who began taking away the jobs in the colonies. The Stamp Act forced us to have to pay taxes on everything paper, including cards and dice. The tea act put excessive taxes on tea. All of these taxes were imposed soon after the war, which made the colonists upset. But what upset them even more was that they did not have anybody from the colonies elected into Parliament, making them feel like they were not represented the way they should be. The intolerable acts were also implemented, which threatened their self-government, so they fought back against Britain by creating the Continental Congress. After a few meetings of the Continental Congress, the colonies then decided to unite and declare independence from
“No ‘scutage’ or ‘aid’ may be levied in our kingdom without its general consent.” They weren’t being represented fairly, this is also referred as “no taxation without representation”. Britain needed more money, because the French and Indian war caused debt so they took it from the colonists by by-passing them and going directly to parliament to tax them. This angered the colonists which led them to rebel against the king. The colonists were being taxed on tea, so in 1773 the colonists dumped gallons of tea into the Boston Harbor.
The British needed to pay off the debt from the French and Indian War. Prime Minister George Grenville decided to tax the Americans because they were the most lightly taxed people throughout all of the territories and colonies the British controlled. In his opinion, the French and Indian War benefited the colonists because the French would no longer attack them. Therefore, the English
