The Stamp Act caused colonists to pay on good they did not pay normally. The colonists rioted because the British taxed them on goods so they could pay of debt. The reason for taxing was to pay off their debt, in order to do this they had to charge the colonists which started up the trouble between the colonies and England. The British were mad because they colonists were rioting and they did not know why. The british needed to pay back debt and they taxed the colonies to do so. Governor Thomas was told that night that, "After dinner it was whispered in town that there would be a mob at night and that the custom-house and admiralty officer’s houses would be attacked." This shows how the British would then be more afraid of the colonists
