Windows menu > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display > Custom DPI Setting > Set font size percentage

Install and run the CCleaner software or similar
The internet was restricted on the machine so we put the CCleaner installer on a flash drive from another computer and transferred it over and ran it. It unpacked and installed quickly and we ran the installed program to delete unnecessary/temporary files and clean the registry.

Power Saving Options
Go to start menu and search “power options”. Click “change advanced power settings” and choose a power profile or customize it yourself. Install Microsoft Office 2010
We got the Microsoft Office 2010 disc and put it in the drive then followed the onscreen installation wizard. All of the programs could then be accessed from the Windows start menu.

Run the windows performance index service
Open Performance Information and Tools via the start menu button, and then open Control Panel. Search for Performance Information and Tools, and then click Performance Information and Tools. Click “Rate This Computer” and let the assessment run.

Install Windows 7 or 8 / Perform software upgrade to improve performance

Put the disk into the drive and turn on the machine and either hold f10 and go to BIOS and manually boot if there’s an OS already installed (if you’re upgrading), or it should launch by itself. Follow the onscreen instructions and choose the appropriate language etc. It will restart a couple of times during install. A new OS can improve performance because it will be more optimized than previous versions and have less bugs/hitches. Desktop theme to the classic Windows
Control panel > all control panel items > Personalization, then scroll down to Basic and High Contrast themes and select Windows Classic. Doing this improves performance because it removes all of the shadow and transparency
