Everyone on the planet has a goal set in life, but only a handful attempt to improve to obtain their goal by studying the subject their goal is in. In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also learned a lot about writing that I hadn’t learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I had to write an autobiography essay, a research essay, and this reflection essay to develop my writing skills better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on essays of different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better writer that gave me the self-confidence and skills to take on the world on my own.

The number 6 represented the question, How did style and subject interact. The number 1 represented “What questions has the essay left unsaid, and the number 10 says does the title reflect the theme of tenor of the essay’s concern. The second task of the assignment was to Perform at least three of the following tasks. I used 2, 13, and 9. Number 2 told me to rewrite the essay’s thesis in my own words. Number 13 told me to write in a short paragraph why the author’s essay was worth reading, and number 9 told me to note the most memorable, and to explain why. I chose to perform this specific task because it showed positive feedback, and complimented the writer on what he did well, and I believe that in order to provide great feedback you must have positive remarks to emphasis as well. Essays that earn a score of 9 demonstrate all the characteristics of an 8 as well as a depth of understanding with prior knowledge and experience to enhance the argument in question and expand the point of view with “near expert control of language.”

First of all, the essay did not exhibit any signs of plagiarism. Second, there were no spelling errors found. Third, there were two grammar suggestions, but they did not apply in this case. Fourth, word choices scored a little below average. It appears my word choices requires more attention.

The third essay that was written was a critical argument. This assignment required me to choose two articles from the school library and write an essay stating my opinion on a particular subject. The topic I chose was medical marijuana. This topic was interesting to me, so it made the assignment fun. On this essay I had fewer mistakes than in previous essays. I continued to struggle with APA citation and the use of commas. When I looked at the feedback from this essay, it gave me confidence. I felt that I was learning and my writing skills were improving.
