The purpose of the Declaration of Independence was to explain the reasoning for why colonies wanted to separate themselves from the Great Britain. The purpose of The Bill of Rights was to make clear of the rights to American citizens. There were ten amendments made to explain the rights they had as a citizen. However, the Declaration of Independence listed the abuses that the British made to the colonist, which effected and went against the Bill of Rights. The abuses made by the Declaration of independence influenced the Bill of Rights and prevented them from ever happening again. There were many abuses made by the British government, however here are two. One of the abuses made by the British government is abusing the rights of the colonist. For example, the British government did not care about the colonist, they used them by imposing taxes without their consent, causing things to be more expensive. As stated in the Declaration of independence, “That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed”. This was something they shouldn’t have done, but went against anyway …show more content…
There were two amendments out of the ten, that helped stop the abuses being done by the British government. The first amendment that helped is the eighth amendment. This basically said that punishments must be fair, they cannot be cruel. “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted”. The next amendment that helped is the tenth amendment. “The powers not delegated to the United States by the constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people”. This amendment said any power that is not given to the federal government goes to the states. This gave people the power that the government didn’t
The American Colonists were justified in waging war and breaking away from Britain because the Britain had unfair laws against the colonists. Throughout the time the Colonists were under British rule, the Colonists were treated horribly and in a cruel manner. One of the laws the British created that was unfair to the Colonists was the Tea Act. The Tea Act was created to force Colonists to pay taxes when they bought tea. A piece of evidence that proves that Britain had unfair laws against the colonists is in document 2. In document 2, John Dickinson talks about how the British parliament had no intentions what so ever of forcing the colonists to work until the
I believe the American colonies were justified in breaking away from England because of unfair rights. The colonists were so mad that they dumped the tea in the harbor! It was called the Boston Tea Party. After this the parliament decided to tax them for their damages. it was called the tea act. ( Document B). When the soldiers needed shelter, food, etc. the parliament pass the Quartering Act it is that the soldiers Come and live with you or they kick you out of your house and take your house and they keep all your food. ( Document G) At the time this was not illegal Parliament forced this act because the soldiers needed a place to stay and they cannot live on the streets .This act was extremely unfair to the colonists because the parliament didn't Tell the colonists and it was unfair because the colonists didn't get a say.
The British were cruel, forceful, and just plain mean. Colonists asked the British for their rights, but no, the British would not give them their rights. Britain was a horrible country, and they didn’t listen to the Colonists, although they were usually right.
Constitution insisted that governments exist to safeguard the natural rights of the citizen. The French
The Declaration of Independence Each year in the United States of America, Americans honor and celebrate the courageous actions that our nation's founders took on July 4, 1776. In the late 1700’s, the British Parliament passed a number of laws that severely limited the freedoms of English colonists in America. According to the Library of Congress’ official website, “On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress, meeting in Philadelphia in the Pennsylvania State House, approved the Declaration of Independence, severing the colonies' ties to the British Crown” (Loc.gov). Throughout our Nation's history, Americans
The colonists in North America were primarily justified against the British because they significantly reduced the rights of the American colonists. After the French and Indian war, England was in debt which encouraged the British to impose the unfair taxes that restricted the rights of the colonists. For example, in document 1 it explains that England did not recover the money lost in the French and Indian war where the British aided the colonists with protection which cause England to be in debt. Because of England’s
According to Document 5, “Committees are appointed to inspect into to characters and conduct of every tradesman… Some of them have been tarred and feathered.” The British officials sent my British to enforce laws were subjected to cruel and unusual punishment by the colonists. Despite all of the revolt, America is still a colony of Great Britain. According to Document 11, British Parliament had the power to bind the… subjects of the Crown of Great Britain, in all cases whatsoever. At the end of the day, America is Britain’s colony, this America has to abide by all of the laws set forth by Britain.
When our founding fathers agreed on seceding from Great Britain, the goal was to let loose from the leash that King George III had the colonies tied to. The initial goal of separation was accomplished, and with it came the Declaration of Independence formally stating that the United States was then its own new country. However, soon after, they realized that by becoming a new country and although a president had already been appointed, there was much power to distribute if they wanted to avoid having the new government become a replica of what they had experienced with Great Britain. They viewed King George III as a tyrant because he implemented heavy taxation, laws, and acts that negatively affected the populous; therefore, to avoid this,
Although the Declaration of Independence was a turning point in American history, it is bested by the era of Salutary Neglect. Long before the Declaration of Independence, Salutary Neglect caused a sense of unity and purpose along with the experience of new liberties, and a religious awakening.
The British continuously denied them of freedom, even though they showed the could handle it well, they deserved to have much more control over their own government than they had as expressed by Robert Walpole (Document 11). They wanted the colonies for self-serving reasons, only enforcing rules on the colonists when it benefited them. It was wrong of the British to deny them their rights like representation in the British Parliament. They were a populous and sizable set of colonies that had the credentials to become their own country. It was beneficial and logical for the Americans to break away, though the British's actions were not unreasonable. America was a growing country who was going to break away anyway. American colonists had the population and the experience, the British would have had to give the colonists a lot more free rein to have them loyal to Britain a lot longer. The rebellion was justified not so much because of what the British did but because of the way they did it. As long as they acted without giving the Americans much of a say in the government, it was justifiable for the Americans to
As citizens of Britain, colonists had the right to have a seat in the British Parliament to decide on bills. Britain passed unconstitutional taxes on the colonists in order to get out of debt, but they did it without the consent of the colonists who didn’t have a voice in the British Parliament. The acts of rebellion on the behalf of colonists influenced on the development of the American Revolution. The Colonists boycotted and hurt the British Government which hurt them financially. Lastly, the the last component to the American Revolution was the enforcement by Britain which triggered massacres, threats, violation of right and fear to the Colonists which once considered themselves Englishmen. Unconstitutional decisions and behavior, acts of rebellion, and enforcement lead to the American Revolution leading to a future creation of the United States of America. 300 years later we still see third world countries everywhere evolving because of these three components which can revolutionize the
With America being a new country, the founding fathers created the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution in order to establish the goals for the young country. During the time period of the eighteenth and nineteenth century, there are many occurrences such as slavery that took place, which represented America following the sacred documents. Slavery was when white males bought black men and women, then made these human beings undergo terrible treatment and work all day and night. However, these slaves were not considered to be citizens during the time period. Also, major events such as the Whiskey Rebellion supported the roles of these important documents. The Whiskey Rebellion was when westerners rebelled due to the tax on whiskey,
Image that someone has gone back to the time of the American Revolution. The British were over taxing the colonists when it was unfair for them to do so. All the colonists wanted was either representation in Congress or to be their own country. Things escalated to where the colonists have decided that they will be their own country. Then once the people were ready the Declaration of Independence was born claiming our freedom from Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson and we declared our independence from Great Britain on July 4, 1776. The most important ideals of the Declaration of Independence are equality; the right to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness; and the right to alter or abolish the government
England wanted to control its Colonies the way they should have originally, but due to their early Salutary Neglect the Colonists became accustomed to certain freedoms and rights that they weren’t suppose to have and the colonists believed in them strongly. The British’s debt turned political decisions into economical decisions, such as after the war when the colonists wanted to move westward to the land that they fought for and felt were entitled to, but were denied passage (Document A). This was not to limit the colonies, but to maintain peace between the colonies and the Indians, which was the cheapest
I always viewed the Fourth of July as a special day for our country. It was a day where Americans celebrated the moment that we declared independence and freedom in our country. As an American, I still find the Fourth of July to be an important day in history, as it ultimately was the start of our nation. Additionally, the Declaration of Independence was the written proof of the reasons behind the colonies declaring independence. This document was a way for the founding fathers to express their desire to be their own nation. The Declaration of Independence is the document that essentially divided America from Great Britain. Also, The Constitution was significant to our government, as it established our laws and rights as citizens. As an American, all of these events and documents, are incredibly central to me and how I view our nation. However, I believe that as a global citizen, all of these would mean something completely different to me. I do believe that the events that shaped our nation are important, but some things could have been changed to better the nation from the beginning.
