Definition Essay: What Defines A Hero?

To be a hero doesn't mean to wear a cape and a mask and have supernatural powers. Real heroes don't have to be superheroes. Most heroes are just average people looking to do right in the world. A hero also has many qualities among other things that help and let them be heroes.

originally, I assumed that a hero was someone who fought villains in movies or had superpowers. Although I assumed that those who fought villains in movies or had superpower are a hero, now I believe that hero is someone who does extraordinary things such as put their lives in danger situations for others, someone who helps other and save someone. On the other hand, I believe that not everyone single person can be a hero because they don´t care about others and only know how to protect themselves.

Joseph Campbell once said “ A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself”. Being a hero doesn't necessarily mean you are the strongest or the fastest, it can simply mean you put others before yourself. Being heroic can have many different attributes ,but in my eyes a hero reflects characteristics of selflessness, courage and nobleness.

So what does it mean to be a hero? Well according to the urban dictionary, a hero is a man or woman praised by their achievements. I thought that was pretty vague so I came up with what I think what a hero is. Wait, before I tell you, have you ever been Superman for Halloween, oh wait I’m getting off the subject. I think a hero is someone who does something for someone or something without making a big deal about it. To be considered a hero you don’t have to be nice to catch someone falling. Every culture in country across the world has their own ideals for what a proper hero should be. Most will say a hero must have these core values compassion, bravery, strength, humility, and integrity. However a person does not always have to possess they traits to be considered a hero. An example of this is an epic hero, these heroes only exist in stories and generally do not possess all of the normal hero qualities. No person could ever be considered an epic hero, due to the complex requirements of one.

What is a Hero. A question that is asked very often. How do we really know the answer when there can be so many different and true definitions. There could be as many definitions of heros as there are people on this earth. To me, a hero is defined as someone who goes above and beyond, not even expecting a reward or recognition. For our English 9 class, we were asked to choose a hero, someone who inspires us. My hero is you my sister. You are my inspiration for just about everything I do. You meet all the hero requirements and more.

A hero to me means that they help people in need and save people. To me men and women who serve our country that die for our freedom, and sacrifice themselves for us to have freedom. Therefore I believe the soldiers from different branches are my hero, “ Not all superheroes wear capes.”

Being a hero is very important, whether you're a teacher or a firefighter, or maybe someone volunteering to donate water to Flint, Michigan being a hero to someone is really important and you could do it today if you really think about it. These are some of my personal beliefs about what makes a person a hero.

What is a hero to you in your eyes? A hero to me in my eyes is someone like a soldier or a veteran who has sacrificed everything for us to keep us safe. A hero is also someone who has deep motivation to keep themselves and their family safe throughout the battle. A hero is someone who is brave, strong, kind, giving and caring. A hero; in my opinion is selfless, what they do is not for them but to help others. When I think of heroes I’ve always thought of the brave men and women who serve and have served in harms way to protect this country. Maybe call me old fashioned but any man welling to put his life on the line for people he loves that’s what I consider a hero. My definition of a hero is more what some people would call every day heroes. Doctors and nurses that spend day in and day out working for others and have dedicated their very lives to saving others are heroes to me. I find that people who conquer some feat that means a great deal to them should be considered as heroes as well.
