Developmental Psychology has widened my perspective and knowledge of the nature of development from humans’ infancy to adolescence and emerging adulthood. Although I have learned about biological, cognitive, and socioemotional processes and periods of development, I am especially interested in socioemotional development in infancy because it is the foundation for a child’s future development. That is to say, if children have a healthy socioemotional development from infancy, they will have a healthy life later on. By understanding the developmental process in infancy, I will be fully prepared when I have children or when my family’s members do. In my perspective, most of the young people do not take account of socioemotional development in infancy because it seems still too far for them. However, after taking Developmental Psychology course, I am convinced that it is extremely significant for us, as young people, to acknowledge of the developmental process because we will have more time to consider which path is most effective and relevant with our lifestyle and expectation on our children. Back to the source why I promote the socioemotional development in infancy, I was born in Vietnam, a country where most of parents raise their children by their knowledge in traditional experiences, which have no scientific evidence and psychological considerations. As a preschool director, a newly licensed teacher, and community volunteer, with many years of experience working with children, I am very much involved with their social, emotional and behavior development. Currently, I am enrolled in a human development course at Capella University and have learned a great deal about my students’ developmental differences. Studying the various developmental theories with Bronfenbrenner Ecological System of Development being my favorite, has allowed me to observe and apply the various theories to the developmental stages of my students.
There are many other theories related to early childhood development that are just as important in other areas of life span development. Because prenatal, infancy and early childhood represent the beginning of development it is understandable why it is important that emphasis be place on these developmental stages of life. Without a strong foundation on which to build on there can be no secure structure.

My first impression of Developmental Psychology is that it is a subdiscipline that is vital to our understanding human growth and maturity. Secondly, through Doctors Naylor and Patrick’s video it is apparent that Developmental Psychologists could specialize various areas given that lifespan developmental is so vast. Lastly, my impression of advanced careers in Psychology is that it is good summation of the graduate careers previous introduced throughout previous texts.

Throughout childhood, environment and genetics promote or discourage growth and development. This essay will analyse the cognitive, physical, social, moral and emotional domains in relativity to my own development from the prenatal stage until adolescence. Psychological and environmental theories are used to develop the understanding and connection between each domain and stage of development.
