The story revolves around Riley’s life and her five emotions, Joy, Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Disgust that control the “Headquarters” of her brain. The main character is Joy, who takes control in leading Riley’s life to make sure it is filled with happiness and laughter. As Riley grows up, her experiences become orbs of memories that are transported to long-term memory. Core memories are held in headquarters, which are connected to Riley’s islands

Lastly, this movie represents how short term memories collected during the day are converted into long term memories during the night. This process happens inside Riley’s complicated maze. Once those memories are recovered and retained, the memories that are related to them might differ or become modified in a way or the other. We can relate to that as when Sadness touches a gold colored happy memory and it turns into a blue tinted memory. Therefore, we might think that our memories are exact and precise, but we need to know that they are in fact transformable. Memories are not certainly accurate and we can never trust our memories.

In my opinion, another emotional concept shown in the film can be hope and love. Riley was always hoping for everything to get in place. The first day, when she first enters the house she was disappointed. The house was nothing than what she expected. Instead of getting her emotions down, she saw it from a positive point of view. She can now design her room however she likes. She had hopes that everything was going to get in place and she would have at least a similar life. Love was another emotion shown in the film. Riley was always showing the love she has for her parents and the people she left behind. Her family plays an important role in her emotions since they were always looking for was to support her. They wanted what is best for her.

This relates to sadness because sadness did not know her influence in Riley’s life, however, as the film moved on, she became a key emotion that not only changed Riley’s future. In the last section of the film, sadness and joy come across Bing Bong, who was once Riley’s imaginary friend. Bing Bong is upset about not being in Riley’s life anymore, so in return, sadness comforts him by understanding his grief. This foreshadows to sadnesses later influence on Riley’s life because sadness is the only emotion that truly understood the way Riley felt, therefore, that is the reason why she was the only emotion capable of healing Riley. Furthermore, sadness is the hero emotion because when she recognized that embracing her sad emotions is what mainly encouraged Riley to not leave San Francisco, this gave her a sense of her own purpose, something she hasn’t felt

When Riley was born, Joy (Amy Poehler) was alone in “headquarters” .But soon, other emotions appeared, including Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Fear (Bill Hader), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), and Anger (Lewis Black). He would drop everything and anything just to answer the phone and would even leave without saying goodbye. Riley made herself believe he was doing that because he didn’t love his family anymore. Among all of the emotions, the one which exhibits the most leadership qualities is Joy. Going by the Big Five Personality Traits, Joy excels at the expectations of nearly of the traits. The first, being surgency, is completely natural to her character. Being the physical representation of joy itself, she is constantly energetic, extroverted and makes conversation whenever possible, even with Sadness, whom she does not like initially.
