English 101 Course Analysis

In the past two months i fell like i have accomplished a great deal. As i focus on it more i realize i have become a better reader. I did this by concentrating on my readings and take my time to read them. With the help of my professor and classmates i began to analyze what i read.

In Honors English (3rd and 5th), ask students to turn in yesterday’s assignment. They have a test on “A Problem” today, so they should log into their pearson accounts online and take the test. I will check their scores and put them in Skyward asap. Once their test is finished please have them read pages 78-79 in the literature book. Their assignment is to read “Like the Sun” (pgs 80-84) and “The Open Window” (pgs 85-88). They should be looking for instances of paradoxes and irony during each reading. They need to complete the critical thinking questions on pages 84 and 88.

In English 1102 students will learn many different techniques throughout the course to understand and compose an analysis on an array of topics. After the course is over it is up to the students to apply what they have learned to everyday life. Many students throughout this course have questioned why they have to learn this material and that it will not even help them in the real world, but they are wrong. Each and everyday people should look at the deeper meaning and analyze situations very carefully or else one may find themselves being deceived. Being able to analyze is a very important skill no matter what career choice you choose. In this course the material assigned also had many life lessons in them. The five-minute warning bell goes off. I rush to my first class of my junior year, eager to see my classmates, who I was going to spend the rest of the 9 months with. I find myself stumbling into a classroom plastered with decorations of Denzel Washington with a Dr. Seuss book in his hand, a t and college flags galore. My AP English 11 class suddenly seemed so appealing to me. As a beautiful, curly haired short lady stood in front of me and said “Welcome to AP English 11,” I knew that I had found a treasure so much greater than just a pretty classroom. Little did I know, that short lady was going to inspire me throughout my challenge filled second-to-last year of high school.

English 111 has been a great course so far. I have been learning new material that will help me to improve my comprehensive English skills, such as speaking, reading and writing. In this course, we have covered many topics that usually are not presented or introduced to students in younger agers. Sexual harassment is one of the sensitive topics that we have discussed in details. I personally did not fully know what is the true definition of sexual harassment and what form of actions or phrases that we could say that would considered to be forms of sexual harassments or harassments in general. During lectures, we have looked cases of sexual harassments and how we can educate ourselves and be aware of this issue that our communities facing. January of 2017 I started taking an English Comp II class. I was very hesitant about it because I knew I wasn't so good in writing. Coming into the class with a little bit of knowledge was good but I still am not a good writer or where I should be at this point. All the assignments the teacher give is kind of complicated for me because i just can’t come up with ideas to help me start and get through my paper. I wish i could focus better and be able to write papers.

From what I can remember from my high school career, the essays that were assigned in my English class were based on the narratives, poetries and passages that were read in class. We would be assigned books and passages that our teacher would give us and write about what the author was trying to explain throughout his story. We would also have to compared and contrast different poems. The different kinds of writing assignments that I had to do in my high school English class were based on narrative essays, descriptive essays and persuasive essays. I would have to convince people what I thought about a book or poem through my writing. I also had to compare and contrast passages with novels. I wanted to register for Advanced Placement English Language and Composition because I wanted to receive advanced information regarding this subject so that I can utilize it when I take the English AP exam and the SAT and the end of this year. By taking this class I hope that I can receive a high score on my English AP exam, so that I can receive college credit for the course.

Education is exceedingly important but as they say good things don’t come easy, and you have to work hard for what you want. In the today’s day and age multiple programs are created to help students of all ages attain a better education in easiest way possible, for example the Magnet Program in middle and high schools, AVID in high school and the ATM pathway program at Los Angeles Trade Technical College. The ATM pathway is a new program designed to assist students in advance transportation and manufacturing a more convenient and manageable way to complete their general education courses to receive a degree. In ATM English, the English course of the program, winter 2017 thought by professor Mancia students were able to excel without fear of failing but with confidence that they will succeed. Through this summer class, I actually learned a lot about writing. I am getting better at searching the academic sources and use them properly in my essay. As an international student, this class definitely help my English skills a lot. This class requires a lot reading, however, I can feel that I can read a lot faster than before. In this world an abundant amount of people, mispronounce or misspell words, but with speech therapy, practice and English classes people are improving their ability to read and write. I have, and I’m sure a few others have as well. I was in the third grade when my English teacher handed the class a writing assignment, the class was assigned to write a story about our future; afterward, we were required to present it in front of the entire class.
