Introduction
In business, it is important for companies to be able to communicate effectively. Each department of a company relies on the other departments as they add to the value chain. One way for a company to integrate its different departments is enterprise resource planning. ERPs are software programs that allow companies to join together data across operations on a company wide basis (Jessup and Valacich 248). ERPs store company information in a common database and allow all departments to access it from one central location (Koch). Companies without ERPS may contain many legacy systems, each operating with different

ERP Systems at Kroger
Kroger uses a number of ERP systems. The first major ERP system Kroger uses is the self-checkout systems. Kroger hired Fujitsu Transaction Solutions to be the sole strategic partner for these systems which are now implemented in most Kroger stores. The next ERP company is PurchasingNet-SQL who Kroger hired in 2000 to streamline its purchasing processes of new store equipment and store refurbishing projects. In few words PurchasingNet-SQL implements an eProcurement system. This system automates approvals and budgeting processes, sends e-mail updates, separates stock requisitions, tracks inventory levels in warehouses, and matches invoices to purchase orders and requisitions to ensure accurate accounting. This system is especially critical because of the numerous retail outlets that all need to be in contact with the single purchasing department. A third company that offers its services to Kroger is the Sterling Information Broker. Kroger is using Sterling to help become more cost-effective and efficient with its trading partners. Kroger with Sterling can exchange electronic documents with essential trading partners including customers, suppliers, freight carriers and financial institutions.
Kroger seems fairly cutting edge as far as technology is concerned. However, some improvements can be made to their existing ERP systems. Kroger relies on numerous IS companies. I recommend consolidating and using a single company for all
Barnes and Co. offered a strong ERP system, X3, which focused on growth in manufacturing, distribution and service industries. It aligns with LSFF’s current strategy for advancing into new markets and as it serves more than 170,000 it is confident to say that if LSFF encounters any IT issues, Barns and Co. will have the capacity to support its needs for that function. The Underwood Group has proposed Microsoft Dynamics NAV, which offered more of a cohesive package that encompasses the functions that LSFF is lacking. It would eliminate the need for manual processing as it has automated the data function to receive more real-time information, which would mitigate any further problems for tracking orders. It has also integrated a reporting component that would reduce the time it takes for an employee to generate a monthly performance report. As a complete package, I believe Microsoft Dynamics NAV is more suitable for LSFF’s current and long-term needs as it provides a more integrated and functional system to operate
With the technology advanced and economy blossom, retailer has become an essential part in business chain in this consumers-oriented society. In this paper, I will highlight the the current status of ERP application in the whole retail industry, analyzing diverse ERP software’s strength and weakness and give some
Today Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is extensively adopted by many organizations regardless of kind and size, mainly because it provides enterprise-wide view of information across all their business operations and help organizations achieve consistency across all their functional departments. The potential benefits of ERP system implementation include improved coordination across functional areas, increased efficiency, reduced operational costs, rapid access to information for decision making, managerial control and support for strategic planning.
ERP packages are heavily used by larger retail chains. Designed to facilitate the administration and optimization of internal business processes across an enterprise, ERP packages have become the competitive tool for most large retail organizations. ERP software uses a single database that allows the different departments to communicate with each other through information sharing. ERP systems comprise function-specific components that are designed to interact with the other modules such as the Order Entry, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Purchasing, Distribution etc.
Enterprise systems, also known as ERP systems, are referred to as a category of information systems that integrate internal business processes, and which improve external collaboration with external business partners (Turban, Volonino, & Wood, 2013). This allows integration and collaboration to enable data sharing to keep workers informed and able to make better decisions, which all integrates the functional systems, such as finance, marketing, accounting, and
"Enterprise Resource Planning is an integrated information system that serves all departments within an enterprise. Evolving out of the manufacturing industry, ERP implies the use of packaged software rather than proprietary software written by or for one customer. ERP modules may be able to interface with an organization's own software with varying degrees of effort, and, depending on the software, ERP modules may be alterable via the vendor's proprietary tools as well as proprietary or standard programming languages" (pcmag.com). After researching companies who offer ERP solutions, I have decided to cover the following; SAP, IBM, AMS, and Oracle.
ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning): Enterprise resource planning system is basing on information technology. An ERP, or Enterprise Resource Planning, system is a business management software that integrates all levels of operations. It can include product planning, development, manufacturing, sales and marketing. The goal of a successful ERP is to improve the flow of all shared information and data across the entire organization. In the past, Johnson & Johnson have used an ERP developed by SAP, a German multinational software company and one of the worlds largest. More recently J&J took on a massive project to consolidate and harmonize their ERP landscape. J&J 's global enterprise supply chain included 120 manufacturing sites, over 500 external manufacturers, 450 distribution centers, and over 60 ERP systems that support about 275 operating companies (Dignan, 2013). This project was initiated because J&J was finding that they were having trouble keeping some products on shelves which affected sales. They saw an opportunity to better meet the evolving needs of customers and hopefully improve the cost of goods sold efficiently to
The ERP implementation would held different companies to come together and share important information as ERP gives a common platform to all.
There are many components that make up the ERP system, Finance Management, Human Resource Management, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing Resource Planning and Customer Relationship Management are the few fundamental components. In this report, I will focus on Finance Management, Human Resource Management and Manufacturing Operations.

Enterprise Resource Planning refers to an integration approach for a business. “Employee Resource Planning (ERP) is an integrated automated application which helps the organization to maintain all the micro, tough, difficult business transaction at one common location” (Wanare & Mudiraj, 2004). It was first defined by the Gartner Group in 1990 and has been widely used as the next generation of Manufacturing Business System and also as a Manufacturing Resource Planning software (Gartner Group). It relates to a system which is integrated, configurable, as well as tailorable for information flow where all plans and business resources are planned and managed (Bakry & Bakry, 2005).
When we look at big name stores, you can assume that there are many systems compiling, interpreting and organizing several points of data at the same time. In an organization to communicate the information from one department to another department and then to manage the flow of information to the client, there are several helpful enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems implemented, which will help organization to help maintain their software systems.
Industries globally, whether public or private sector are shifting way out from developing Information Systems in-house and are implementing ERP systems and many readymade software packages. ERP packages are known for business operating system that enable better resource planning and deliver value-added products and services to customers. ERP automate core corporate activities such as manufacturing and the management of financial and human resources and the supply chain.
Abstract-ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning. ERP is a business concept for automation and planning. In today’s fast changing scenario ERP becomes one of the most demanding and successful concept in business world. Today the concept of ERP is being used by almost every segment of the business and industry worldwide. It is most sought after concept in management now. Basically it is a solution to all management processes and problems. It includes solutions for all the domains that can think of. It can be customized or better to say tailor made according to need and requirement. Like every other business and management solutions it has a history and life cycle. It is being successfully used by some major vendors worldwide and some local vendors too. It is well implemented by the organizations like SAP and Oracle. These IT giants capture a large share of market. But still the major portion is left and which is pointed out by small local ERP solution providers with their own version of ERP. Now capturing the unclaimed market is the new war. Even organizations like Microsoft and SAP are also offering their new version of ERP software for SME’s (Small Medium Enterprise).
