Recently, there have been a lot of political coverage of black hate crime from Police Officers and Police hate crime from the black community. There have been organizations such as, black lives matter and blue lives matter to support both sides of the argument. Although all lives actually matter, there seems to be a lot of one-sided support depending what part of the community one lives or the color of their skin. Therefore, the two major sides on the hate crime is White Americans versus Black Americans.
In the black lives matter category, the black community stands up for the thought of hate crime towards their race. “Today’s racial-justice movement demands an end to the disproportionate killing of black people by law-enforcement officials and vigilantes, and seeks to root out white supremacy wherever it lives,” (McClain). There have been many reported and news broadcasted shootings from cops upon young black males, which is giving the community reason to come together and stand with what they believe. Black lives matter

In the blue lives matter category, the white community stands together as Police officers are also killed in the recent chain of events. As the evidence unravels, the Police Officers are proving that they are not racially profiling the black community at all. Most of the evidence shows, that the young black males that were killed were because of illegal actions and the inability to listen to the Police Officers enforcing the law. One specific story sticks out, a cop was shot and killed on site at a local gas station in Houston Texas. The community didn’t put a complete uproar or block traffic, what the community did do though is stand together in prayer for the officers’ family and
On November 14, 2008 in New York, A 22 year old Transgender woman named Lateisha Green went to a house party with her brother and her friends. They were sitting outside in the car and a man came up to the car and shot her to death. Many people think the man shot her because of the way she looks. The man name is Dwight DeLee while he was shooting her, witnesses said that he made anti-gay slurs. Dwight DeLee was found guilty of manslaughter and have to face 25 years in prison. Dwight was the second person to be proven guilty of a hate crime against a Transgender woman. Hate crimes are a crime that’s usually violent that occurs when a person targets a victim because of his and her race, religion or sexual orientation.Hate crimes have a negative effect on society because people do not feel
Black on black violence is an enormous problem in the African-American community. Living in a neighborhood that is mostly minority, many may have witnessed a lot of black on black violence. The black on black violence has continued to arise in many communities and continues to be a problem around the world. Black on black violence is ignorant, and many black Americans should be coming together instead of killing one another. African-Americans people should be helping each other achieve in the world, instead of putting one another.
Hate crimes has become an increasing problem here in the united states ranging from racial hatred to gender discrimination but what are hate crimes? According to Dr. Jack McDevitt, a criminologist at Northeastern University in Boston Hate crimes are message crimes, Hate crimes are defined as crimes that are violent act against people, property, or organizations because of the group to which they belong or identify with. The coined term “hate crimes” was first used No matter how many different definitions there are for hate crimes but we all can agree that hate crimes are wrong and immoral. But within hate crimes they are many different types of hate crimes. One of the main reasons that people commit hate crimes would
All across the nation, in the news the black community has been making their voice heard, in regards to white police brutality, and murder against the unarmed black community. Many of these brutal attacks and flat out murders of unarmed black people haven’t been largely prosecuted, some officers have even been acquitted of any wrong doing or murder. This has led to outrage in the African American community at large. The shooting of an unarmed black teen named Michael Brown caused the racial strain in this country to break.
Everyone sees the subject of police brutality as something that creates racial tension and divides us as a nation. I contest this argument because the truth is, the citizens of the United States are tired of seeing this issue and are UNITING to protest what is becoming a norm for Police. The most publicized organization that is attacking this issue at its source is comprised of people across the nation and the group is identified as “Black Lives Matter”. While there is no official
On June 7, 1998, 49-year-old James Byrd Jr. of Texas accepted a ride from three white men, who then beat him severely, urinated on him, chained him by his ankles to the back of their pick-up truck, dragged him for three miles into the countryside, and dumped his corpse in front of an African-American cemetery (Graczyk). A little over a year later, a jury sentenced ring leader John King to death by lethal injection (“Man Executed for Dragging Death of James Byrd”). While this particular case may give the appearance that perpetrators of hate crimes receive appropriate punishment, almost a decade later, one particular case demonstrates the inequity in the application of hate crime punishments: In 2007, Sean Kennedy of Charleston, South
The United States FBI defines hate crimes as “a traditional offense like murder, arson, or vandalism with an added element of bias.” This type of bigotry-driven crime has been a huge issue in the area of politics and justice ever since history began. Such crimes have become increasingly visible over the years due to the advances in technology, and social networking sites that have given a new platform to these issues. As the visibility of hate crime conditions become commonplace, they also become easily identifiable in everyday life. The issue that then arises is that these conditions have not yet become illegal to the degree that they should be held to. Hate crimes should be held at a higher penalty, at the federal level, due to the nature and intent of the crime at hand.
Transition to Lord of the Flies as a means to visualize the Pyramid of Hate

Hate crimes are many different criminal acts such as vandalism, arson, assault, and even murder. Many hate crimes are based on an individual’s race, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and disabilities. Everyone can be potential victims of hate crimes. Anyone from any social class can be considered targets for hate crimes. If you or a group believes in a different religion or speaks a different language and the offenders do not approve, then they will target you. No one can be really safe and overcome hate crimes if they are being targeted. It is a cruel and depressing world. With help as a community can stop hate crimes.
Suspicion that a black person will always have the wrong intention and have a malicious plan when walking around a neighborhood, or whatever the case might be, is unjust and based on prejudice. As more of our black sisters and black brother’s lives are being taken away, the public begins to take this issue more seriously attemting to prevent from any more lives to be taken away by the police force, which is meant to keep us out of harm’s way and make us feel safe. Black lives matter is no longer maintained as a popular hashtag in the media, but it comes to live as a movement. Police brutality creates a black lives matter movement where our society unites to protest, regardless of economic status, religion, race, or sex.
The article “Black Lives and Blue Lives Matter” by Bryant Alston shows and represents the importance of black lives just like any other, police brutality, also showing how no matter the color of one’s skin, it should not affect one in a negative way or agitate others to want to look over one just because a person of color seemed as a more ‘fitting’ person for such a crime instead of other non-black, or non-hispanic, person. I completely agree with Bryant Alston’s perspective on those cases, which regard race and ethnicity.
Police brutality is a major issue in today’s society. Many African Americans tend to avoid the police for that very reason. A campaign was started in 2012 against police brutality and the unfair treating of African Americans entitled, Black Lives Matter. This movement was met with controversy as well as support from the American people. This movement has followed several controversial police brutality cases in the United States including, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and Sandra Bland. All African American and all killed in the presence of a police officer, with no convictions. These three cases have been some of the biggest cases in the Black Lives Matter campaign. This campaign is determined to make sure that Black lives are treated just as equally as white live and Hispanic lives, because black lives matter

Hate crimes are not a new concept for society, because hate crimes have always been around. While the study of hate crimes and the laws that have been passed because of hate crimes is relatively new, hate crimes have always been around. Hate crimes were committed as far back as the 1800’s and even back to The Civil War. Hate crimes are prevalent in society today just like they were in the past; because whether the crimes are aimed towards Muslims, the gay community, or any other minority group; they are fueled by something that every person has come into contact with- prejudice. Prejudice is defined as a preconceived thought or opinion about someone. While prejudice can be positive, in the concept of hate crimes they are negative feelings,
