My chose to do the policy where we should lower the drinking age from twenty one to eighteen. There are many arguments where you could lower the drinking age. Some say that lowering the drinking age would stop underage drinking and control binge drinking. I think it would stop those things to like lowering the drinking age would cut out a lot of underage drinking because most kids don’t start liking alcohol until there about eighteen anyways. The drinking age should be lowered to eighteen because there has been many problems that have caused life threatening dangers to these teens. The age eighteen is where you start to become an adult so people should have the right to drink when they turn eighteen (“Drinking Age”). It also should be allowed …show more content…
They even say there are less drinking and driving fatalities in many other countries that have the drinking age at eighteen (“Drinking Age”). It shows that the percentages of fatalities that occur have nothing to do with the MLDA (“Drinking Age”). The MLDA is having no effect because teens are are still consuming alcohol illegally. The drinking age of 21 promotes teens to get fake identification so they can get alcohol. Lowering the drinking age would decrease the number of false identifications. Especially since there is a lot of terrorism and fake identifications right now we need to get rid of that stuff (“Drinking Age”). I believe that there are a lot kids that like alcohol at the age of 18. They should have that right to have a drink and enjoy it. Although there are many pros to the drinking age being lowered there are also many cons too. A lot of people in the United States want to keep the drinking age the same. They say that if we lowered the drinking age more teens will want to drink and it could cause bad things to happen (“Odyssey”). In many other countries the legal age to drink is under eighteen and they have proved that there are more people who consume a big amount of alcohol and they think
There are statistics that alcohol consumption has lowered since 1984. Some attribute this to the fact that drinking age is set at 21, but this is not absolutely the reason because even where it is set at 18 people make their own choices of whether to drink or not. It is also evident that setting the drinking age at 21 against 18 does not eliminate teenage drinking problems; instead it just keeps them on hold until the teens get to 21 years of age. In some cases keeping the minimum drinking age at 21 encourages teens to drink more. Hence drinking age should be set at the age of 18. Here are some of the reasons why.
Government officials and citizens alike have debated whether the drinking age laws should be lowered to eighteen once again. MLDA twenty one does not work and is being ignored by minors and adults. Even lower drinking ages imposed in other countries are working, judging by their lower death rates. By enabling people eighteen and under to drink, the economy would grow. The minimum legal drinking age limit should be reverted back to the original eighteen years old.
The drinking age has always been a very controversial topic in America. Some people believe that the drinking age should be lowered to 18, while others think that it should remain the current age of 21. We believe that the drinking age should stay the current number in order to save more lives and protect many people from getting harmed in any way. Cognitive defects of the brain, assaults in bars and nightclubs, and drinking and driving are three points that prove the importance of why 21 is the best number for drinking age.
Critics believe that the drinking age should be lowered from 21 to 18 because the young adults are mature enough. People say that once you're 18, you're more mature than in your teen years. Lowering the MLDA would diminish the thrill of breaking the law to get drink. By normalizing alcohol consumption, it would have less of a taboo for young adults entering college and workforce. It would also be good for the economy. More people would legally be drinking in bars, restaurants, etc. It would increase the revenue for the business owners. Although critics think this, we shouldn't lower the
The drinking age in the United States is currently 21. I believe that this drinking age should be lowered to 18. One reason why I believe this is because in the United States 18 is the age of adulthood so I think they they should be able to make there own decisions because you are not a minor anymore. For example, you are allowed to buy a house, vote, join the military, serve jury duty, get married, apply for loans, and use tobacco products. There are 115 countries with a MLDA (Minimum Legal Drinking Age) of 18-19. Also there is only 12 countries with a MLDA of 21. There are also fewer drunk driving traffic accidents and fatalities in many countries with MLDA of 18. I believe that this could help because there are a lot of DUI’s and car crashes
Friends, America drinking age should be lowered from age 21 to 18 in orders to allow the freedom that adults have. There are a lot of things to do when people turn 18 in this country except drinking. It’s hard to enjoy high school graduation party without moderate amount of drink beverage. Many other countries already allowed people to drink under age 21. This means that many countries do not have a serious problem of minimum legal drinking age under 21. Also drinking alcohol can actually save people lives by prevent illegal drunken driving. Every year, MLDA will continue to save people. America should lower drinking age under 21 in order to make better life.
The legal age of adulthood in the United States is eighteen. Turning eighteen brings the rights and responsibilities of adulthood to vote, serve on juries, get married, sign contracts, even be prosecuted as adults (Chiappetta). As an adult he or she should have the right to make their own decisions about alcohol consumption. Once someone turns eighteen he/she is indirectly encouraged to join the united states military which includes risking one's life, fighting a war overseas, so the people who choose to do that should be able to come home and enjoy a beer in the comforts of their home. Proponents of lowering the minimum legal drinking age from
This shows that there is a better chance of living longer than if teens were to start drinking at 18. The drinking age should not be lowered to 18 years because this could cause them to become addicted and could interfere with their future. Teenagers get drunk twice as fast as adults and also have more trouble knowing when to stop drinking. Drinking causes brain and lung damage; at such a young age drinking could cause health problems during their early years. Teenagers are already getting in accidents because of other distractions such as the radio and texting. The last thing that needs to be added to those incidents is teens drunk driving and harming themselves and others. Binge drinking is more common for teens rather than adults. This should not be more important to teens rather than going to college to become successful. “Most of the college students who choose to drink are binge drinking, according to a study out of Harvard. Seven out of 10 are consuming five or more drinks in a row” (Christensen). Getting good grades should be more important than drinking because the beer will always be there and there is sometimes only one chance for people to go to college and be
The reason behind why others think it’s right by decreasing the drinking age is because it’s better for the economy, increased responsibility, and more time to experience. Surprisingly, they’re wrong, by decreasing the drinking age, it can cause many problems. For example, more traffic fatalities, more suicidal thoughts, more crimes, and many more side/long term effects. ”A large study of 1,882 fatally injured drivers in several states concluded that 68% of sober drivers and 94% of intoxicated drivers were responsible for their crashes.“ -Alcohol Problems and Solutions. ”Because alcohol use is legal and pervasive, it plays a particularly strong role in the relationship to crime and other social problems. Alcohol is a factor in 40% of all violent crimes today. -Department of Justice. Therefore, by increasing the drinking age, it will prevent traffic fatalities, crimes, and many more
From 2006 to 2010, over eighty eight thousand deaths were caused from underage drinking.. imagine , It's five am. and you get a call from your daughter’s best friend you can't say a word as you sit and listen to the horror of the accident. Your daughter who was out all night drinking at parties with her friends did not wake up. She was poisoned from the excessive amount of alcohol she had consumed that night and fell asleep, unable to wake up this morning. You thought she was going over to her friends for a sleepover not to get a call the next day saying she died. The legal drinking age should not be lowered from twenty one because young teens would have easier access to alcohol, an increase in binge drinking, and injuries and deaths caused
If the drinking age were to be lowered it would satisfy the American right of all young adults. This is because young adults can vote, join the army and even live on their own. Given all these mature responsibilities that teenagers are expected to engage in, it would only make sense if they too could drink legally. Additionally, at eighteen, it is legal to buy a pack of cigarettes even though smoking has proven to cause more deaths in America than alcohol. Lastly, if the ban on drinking at eighteen was lifted, then there would be a higher obligation for safety taught to young teens, therefore creating fewer accidents and
There are many reasons on why the U.S shouldn’t lower its drinking age. The first reason is that if the drinking age in the U.S is lowered then it would only result in teenagers drinking at a younger age than the legal drinking age. According to the article
From my point of view, I believe that the drinking age should be lowered to 18 years old. If this were to happen, there could be many positive results within it. One major reason is that with the drinking age set as 21, you are technically a legal adult at the age of 18 years old. We should be able to be responsible enough to decide what we do. Second, death rate could possibly go down. By that I mean with that being a restricted item and then when we turn 21, we get to drink all we want. We won’t be able to be responsible with it and that is lead up to how dangerous drinking is. We just never learned. Another reason it it all that this law isn't stopping anyone. We don't care, we’ll find way to get what we want. So in that case it should be lowered so it won’t be counted towards as illegal. My last reason is that whole point of having the age higher is that we will be responsible. But in all, age will never have anything to do with the responsibility to drink. If it was lower there should have a High School awareness of alcohol to teach our population about the importance of having this in our own hands. I do realize that many people would disagree with me because that would bring the percentage of drinking and driving up in young adults. Therefore, I strongly agree that the drinking age should be lowered to the age of 18 years old.
Many people believe the minimum age of drinking should be lowered from twenty-one to eighteen. Professor Ruth C. Engs from the University of Illinois makes a strong case that the law needs to change. There are many advantages, such as helping youth understand how to drink responsibly, and disadvantages, such as the increase in alcoholism, to lowering the age of drinking. The legal age should be lowered to eighteen to help us better control how much and/or how responsibly alcohol is consumed.
When people turn eighteen they are considered adults. They can vote, get married, buy cigarettes, get a tattoo, and even die for their country. Despite being considered an adult, they still cannot buy or consume alcohol legally. A person can be responsible enough to pay their own bills, live by themselves, have a job at the age of eighteen. Despite all this the U.S. government believes that twenty-one is the time when a person is responsible enough to drink alcohol. The United States is outnumbered by countries that have a lower drinking age. Some people will argue that teenage years are very important in brain development; other people will say drinking at this age would cause more accidents and injuries. In all actuality lowering the drinking age to eighteen would give people a right they deserve.
