The effects of European exploration were mostly positive. The exploration led to cultural diffusion, the Colombian exchange, and the modernization of goods as well as cities. The end of isolation from Europe and Asia brought a new beginning to the Americas. As the Natives perished under the wrath of the Europeans, the European empire grew rich from enslavement. Although this caused great disdain until the 1960s (and even still a little today), the effects of European exploration changed the world for the better because it lead to the key elements that still affect society today- cultural diffusion, the exchange of goods (globally), and the modernization in technology. To begin, the exploration of Europeans led to cultural diffusion. Cultural diffusion is the spread of ideas and beliefs from one culture to another. In Document 4, a series of images of planting and harvesting is shown. The images were sent from a native Peruvian artist to the King of Spain, shown to illustrate the new world. This shows how ideas from the new world were transported over to Europe. It is unknown whether or not the ‘old world’ started …show more content…
The Columbian exchange was the widespread change of plants, animals, diseases, human populations, and ideas from the eastern to the western hemispheres that occurred after 1492. The map on Document 5 shows the Triangular Trade, also known as the Columbian Exchange. It shows how ships would transport different goods from the old world to the new world and vice versa. For example, it shows that from Barbados (South America) sent molasses, sugar, and wine (a.k.a. hogsheads) to Newport (North America), while Newport sent rum and African Iron (African currency) to the Gold Coast of Africa. This clearly shows how European exploration lead to the spread of goods. This is another positive effect of their explorations because it changed the way things were transported which still affect
The Columbian Exchange, beginning in 1492 with Christopher Columbus’s first voyage, was a global trading standoff between the Old World and the New World. Plants, animals, and diseases were being traded fervently between Europe, Africa, and the Americas. The global and social changes made during this exchange would leave a lasting impression on the Americas in the years that followed.
The European Exploration was a time where Europeans explored new places, bringing new ideas to Europe. These explorations were a major factor in taking Europe from a “Dark Age” to a Renaissance. There are many causes that led to these great accomplishments, and the Renaissance.
The Columbian exchange is an interchange of plants, ideas, diseases and many more things traded between the New World and the Old World during the 15th and 16th century. It all began in 1492 after Christopher Columbus went on his voyage and discovered the New World. After discovering the New World many milestones in history began to form. Following in his steps of his new discovery came some of the Europeans. Since the Colombian exchange began, many things have been brought to America and many things have been sent over in the directions. The Old World has brought over many supplies as in sugar, coffee, horses and smallpox. The Americas brought to them corn, cocoa beans, and tomatoes in their exchange. Not only did the old and the new world bring great things to each other, they also brought diseases and a decrease in the population of the new world. Instead of the old world taking in the new world’s culture, it was reversed. The new world had taken in the old world’s way of lifestyle.
The Columbian Exchange is a huge exchange of goods and ideas between the old world and the new world. The old world is considered Europe, Asia and Africa and the new world is considered America. Their colonies started to trade with each other and that’s when they formed the Columbian Exchange. Many countries were involved in this trade, including China, Africa and Italy. The exchange of the new ideas, traditions, food, religion and diet changed cultures everywhere. The Natives gave and received many items. Even though Europeans and American Indians saw some similarities in each other, their words differed. The introduction of plants into the new world extended a process that had been taking place for centuries in the Old World. Trade
The Columbian Exchange is the movement of goods or products and people. It was introduced in the time of Columbus voyages. It put plants, animals and cultures together. Europe introduced technology, corn, tomatoes, potatoes, peanuts, tobacco and cotton. The Old world then introduced wheat, rice, sugarcane, horses, cattle, pigs and sheep. One downfall of this transaction was that Europeans brought with them germs.
The Columbian Exchange was the movement of animals, plants, ideas, diseases, and technology across the Atlantic Ocean. The list above was traded between the Americas, Europe, and Africa. The exchange cause negative and positive results in all three continents.
The Age of Exploration had a great impact on the world. During this time, the New World was discovered and the New and Old World came together. The colonization of the New World had many positive and negative effects during the Age of exploration. The Europeans were motivated by things such as gold, god, and glory, which led to the start of the Age of Exploration. Many negative effects came from the colonization of the New World such as, mistreatment of Natives, many wars taking place, and slaves began to be a big part of a the trade with the New World. On the contrary, there were many positives, like new products were traded, new routes were found, and many relations were made with the Indians. Many things led to the Age of Exploration, which
Should the European explorers, conquistadors, and settlers from the Age of Exploration still be glorified and celebrated in modern times? While many, including yourself, would probably answer with yes, I would have to answer with no because although there were many benefits of cultural diffusion, it came at a very high cost. The benefits of the exploration was very one-sided, the explorers were greedy and cruel, and it also caused much destruction to native culture and populations.
After the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus in 1492, this sparked the interests of the Columbian Exchange. This was a global network that allowed for the transfer of ideas, plants, animals, and diseases between America and the Old World. Although hindering the developments of societies around the world with diseases, the Columbian Exchange mostly aided these advancements with its trade of crops and silver and technological advances.
The Columbian Exchange was triangular trade which included Europe, Africa and the Americas. It has been dubbed the Columbian Exchange likely due to Christopher Columbus getting credit for discovering America and bringing back agricultural riches to Europe. Although there were pros and cons in trading, European countries were eager to participate because it was good for their economies and was the beginning of making the world a smaller place as goods become available in their non-native countries.
One of the worst things to come out of this time was slavery. African villages would be invaded and Africans would be slaughtered. Those who lived would be enslaved and put on ships where they would be put in small cramped areas body to body off to the Americas to be sold to others and be used for work such as cotton picking. (Doc 4) Native Americans were also enslaved when Europeans and spanish conquistadors began to take over the Americas. Both Africans and Native Americans would be whipped and tortured if they did not heed their orders. (Doc 1) War was another effect of the age of exploration. When groups of people unwilling to give up their land to Spanish conquistadors would fight back things could get messy. This resulted in large amount of civilizations being wiped out and many innocent people being slaughtered. Many countries in the same continent began to wage war. Countries like France and Britain fighting over property of land. (Doc 7) The age of exploration also allowed disease to spread like wildfire throughout the world. Leaving effects of the age of exploration still with us today are illnesses like
Europeans helped the economic development by granting new resources and more agricultural progression. Finally, Europeans helped cultural development by creating a religious influence on the countries. Europeans helped the social development of other lands by allowing the lands to create profits. Before Europeans intervened their ways into Africa, African kings would have to keep their POWs and criminals behind bars and had to pay to keep them there.
The Age of Exploration was a period in human history spearheaded by the Portuguese in which the Old and New World came into contact and began the process of globalization. So began an exchange of anything and everything from technology and food to religions and diseases. The natives were introduced to new ways to farm by using horses and iron tools brought by the Europeans. An unforeseen consequence that arose from the contact between the natives and Europeans was the introduction of many never before seen diseases such as smallpox to the natives. The result would be wide scale death throughout the native populations of the Americas. For those who survived and for the generations to come. the linking of the Old and New World would be beneficial
I believe that, there were both positive and negative benefits and consequences when the Europeans explored the new world. One consequence was slavery. They traded slaves, beat them , and they worked them to death. Two benefits were food exchange and that they brought Christianity. For food exchange , they had wealthy people,Europeans gave them food, and they had farms.
The impact that the Europeans experienced through exploration was largely economic, but it also largely increased European influence on the new lands. In 1492, most of Europe first took notice of America when Christopher Columbus, a Spanish explorer, landed on a small island that was part of what is now called the Bahamas. After this first expedition, many European nations experienced a rise in competition between each other to establish colonies in the Americas. In 1498, Vasco da Gama sailed around the Cape of Good Hope in Africa and reached Asia. This venture allowed Europe to establish a trade route with Asia, which largely effected the European economy. European expansion provided new sources of gold and influence as well. This greatly
