To Kill a Mockingbird It is difficult to define what makes a good father, but Atticus’s unconditional love for his children is admirable. In Harper Lee’s, To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus is portrayed as a good father with many good qualities. However, like any human, he is not perfect. He does has some flaws. Atticus was portrayed as an amazing father, however, he did possess few bad qualities as well. Unlike some fathers, Atticus is very loving and caring towards his kids. Even with his busy schedule, Atticus still finds time to spend with his kids and still reads to scout every single night. Being a lawyer is a very time consuming and stressful job. He teaches his kids by doing by example. More than any parent in Maycomb County. When asked why Atticus was defending Tom Robinson he said “I couldn't hold up my head in town........ I couldn’t even tell you (Scout) or Jem not to do something again.” (78) Atticus cares very much about being a role model to his children so much, he took up a case because he wants to be a good role model and lead by a good example. While Atticus is a great father some good qualities, he is not some all power, perfect being. Atticus does have some flaws like any human As any father should, Atticus should spend more time with his kids. Especially without a mother in their lives. As we can see there is no mother in their lives except Calpurnia, but how much can one maid do to control both kids do? The kids get bored and do not have much to do and a result of this kids do some dumb stuff. Such as, messing with Boo Radley and other stuff. They need someone to guide them and tell what not to do. Atticus spending time with his children would easily solve this. Atticus is clearly shown in the book as a good father but he does have some flaws like any
