Title of speech: 1 Texting while driving Specific purpose: My audience will know the dangers of texting while driving, the effects it has on people and ways to reduce the accident rate due to texting and driving.
Proposition: 2 Texting while driving can cause injuries and even death.
Introduction
1. 1 Attention Getter 1. Cady Reynolds was 16 years old when she was killed. She and a friend were driving home
3 from a movie when another teen, who was texting at the time, ran a red light and slammed into Cady’s car. Cady was rushed to the hospital but died the next day. 2. Alex Brown was 17 when she died. She crashed her truck while driving to school. She was texting at the time of the accident. 3. Bronte Wright was 17 when she got in an accident while texting. She spent three weeks in a coma and suffered permanent brain damage as well as other physical issues stemming from her accident.
2. Audience Relevance Link Majority of the people in here already have a car or have rode in one before. Texting while driving have become a problem for people of all ages. There is an increase in the rate of accidents, injuries and deaths due to distracted driving.
3. Credibility Everyday I see people risking their lives and the lives of others by being so impatient that they can’t wait for some minutes to reply a text back or talk to a someone while driving. I see that everyday with even my family members. As I sit in the car, I become the eyes

In the article, “Dead Girl’s Parents Warn Students to Buckle Up and Stop Texting,” shows that texting while driving is hazardous and very real when Alex Brown, age 17, died due to result of texting while driving while not wearing a seatbelt. The parents of Alex Brown, Johhny Mac and Jeanne Brown, appeared in front of an audience of hundreds of Clyde middle and high school students, to educate young people about Alex’s accident and how easily it could have been prevented. Texting while driving impacts the lives of those around you. A single distraction while driving, as small and simple it may seem such as texting, can lead to the death of loved ones.
In a local news station called KCTV5 they did a report on an accident caused by texting and driving and this is what happened, “A 16-year-old girl has been charged with manslaughter, assault and texting while driving in connection with a September 2011 fatality collision. It's a moment the young driver can never take back, and one prosecutors said could have been avoided if she'd just put down her phone.” This is just plain sad that a 16 year old girl’s life just ruined because she choose to text and drive. Texting and driving is a humongous debate in our society because of how many people do it. People die due to texting and driving every day. people can go to jail for texting and driving and you can hurt other people. Texting and driving is dangerous and should be enforced.
So many people are injured and killed every year in accidents caused by texting and other types of distracted driving, such as eating, thousands a year. It is unfortunate, but not surprising if you may have been a victim.
As cell phones become more popular, texting while driving is becoming the most widely known cause for car accidents among teens. The alarming rate of incidents where texting is involved is getting more parents worried and warning their children about the danger of texting while driving. Parents are urging the fact that drivers should pay attention to the road and traffic, not their phones. A popular study of 18 to 24 year old drivers showed that 66 percent of them have texted while driving. Since texting while driving is becoming more popular many states are passing a law to ban the use of any cell phone device while in a vehicle. Texting and driving has been a problem ever since smart phones have come out. There are around 660,000 people daily who use cell phones while driving, according to the FCC. It is so common that almost everyone knows someone who has text and drove in the past or currently does it frequently.

Its been about a hundred and thirty-nine years since Alexander Graham Bell made the first phone. The cellphone was made to replace the phone and its has become poplar. The progression of test messaging and social media sites through the more advanced technology has more people on their phones, becoming one of the largest distractions. Whether people think they can safely type on their phones while driving or just do not think there is any real danger in the act is a misconception. (Revealing Topic) My intention today is to persuade you to think twice next time you pull out your cell phone while driving. I’m going to touch on why texting while driving is dangerous and present you with a couple of studies that provide shocking evidence on how impaired someone is when they are texting and driving and texting while driving vs. driving drunk.
Even though in today's time everyone has a cell phone and that it's not new to the world. There are some disadvantages and advantages on having a cell phone. One advantage is that it helps with communication with family and friends in today's time. One disadvantage with having a cell phone is that when people receive a phone call or text they want to answer it right away no matter if you're driving or not so it causes distraction and it's dangerous to text and drive. People should not text and drive because it’s against the law, people could die, and it’s unnecessary.
Texting while driving can be a deadly combination. Everyone knows how dangerous texting while driving is, yet many choose to ignore the risks. Not only does texting while driving put drivers at risk, it also puts anyone in the car with them at risk and even those around them in danger. Texting and driving takes the driver’s attention away from the road and what is going on around them. And it only takes a split second for something to go wrong resulting in tragedy.
