It is important to remember when looking at child and young person development that development is a learning and holistic process. Each child is unique, they will develop at their own rate and in their own way. A broad average of when children and young people are expected to reach particular stages is set out through milestones of development. Some children may reach certain milestones either in advance or later than other children, this is their rate of development. To give an example some children may be showing signs of puberty in their last year of primary school where others may not. It is important to understand this individual rate of development so that staff can offer the correct support to the child. Extra support maybe required
Every child is different, and so is every parent 's experience; but experts have gained a clear idea about the range of normal development from birth to the time of a person’s death. Although most child development experiences are not going to be the same due to the differentiation between culture and genetics, there are developmental milestones every child should experience within a certain range of age. Some of the most apparent factors of a child’s developmental stages are genetics, parenting, experiences, friends and family, education, and culture, or environment. All of these factors shape and individual life from the earliest years to the later years of life and eventually death.
Child development was largely ignored throughout much of history as children were often viewed simply as smaller versions of adults. It was once researchers recognised the direct effect that development has on individuals that its relevance became important. Childhood development begins from infancy to adolescent and follows a predictable sequence yet progresses through a unique form of growth within each child. Understanding childhood development is essential because it allows us to fully appreciate the cognitive, emotional and physical growth that children experience, Some of the major theories of child development are Gesell, Piaget, Erikson and Bronfenfrenner.
This difference is very important because all children and young people are unique individuals and develop at their own rate. Children may not develop at a fixed age and it is important to remember this to avoid pressure on children or parents to get their children to develop certain aspects within a set time. Also, some children may develop at a faster or slower rate than others which doesnâ€TMt matter if their development is progressing. It is important to know the difference as it helps to identify the childâ€TMs needs during the stages

At this stage the child is developing more socially, is able to understand feelings and has real friends. Physically they are high in energy, from running around to riding in the tricycle. All children develop differently, but at this age there are certain skills that are crucial for the child’s intellect and self regard.
Children develop through many stages in their life. They will reach developmental milestones which are things that most children can do by that certain age. Infants which are aged between birth and 3 years old will develop muscularly from the head downward. They will be able to control their head first, they will then be able to pick things up and use their hands then finally they development of their legs and feet then beginning to walk. They will start to focus their vision. The language used in infants is just small babbling noises such as ‘mama’ and ‘dada’. During this stage they will also develop love and trust bonds. Infants will begin to look for fallen objects and will be able to respond to their own name.
Child development refers to the physical, cognitive, social, emotional, speech & language, motor skills growth that begins at birth and continues through early adulthood. Child development is a process every child goes through and requires careful guidance. The development process involves learning and mastering skills like sitting, walking, talking, skipping at an early stage to understanding emotions and socially acceptable behavior at later stage. Children learn these skills which are referred to as “milestones” during different stage. For example, one milestone is learning to talk. Most children learn this skill between the ages of 12 and 24 months. I should note, everyone develops at different rate; therefore, it’s important to closely monitor our children. The timing for each development is determined by “nature and nurture”.
During the course I learned that the child development is the changes that occur as a child grows and develops in physical, mental, emotion, and health. For example, the first five years of children 's life are very important for the children development. Also, it is the foundation that forms children 's future growth, learning at school, in the family and community. According to the book “The Development of Children” by Lightfoot et al emphasize that the first five years are very important for the development of the children 's brain, and the first three years are the most critical in determining the children 's brain structure (lightfoot et al 130). Moreover, the early experiences are the base for the development and function throughout life. Actually, children learn more quickly when they were young than at any other time in life. They need love and nurturing to develop a sense of trust and security which turns into confidence later in life. Another example is that the babies and young children grow, learn and develop rapidly when they receive love, attention, encouragement, as well as nutrition and health care. By understanding the stages of child development helps parents and the caregivers know how to support the child as he or she grows. Based on what I learned from the
Development of oneself is a continuous process throughout the life span, in four different domains of life i.e. biological, social, psychological and emotional. As human is the complex specie in the universe because of his ability to think, communicate, express and interact in the society and environment. A person goes through various phases of development and succession in one phase leads him to the next phase. From birth a child start interpreting and responding to different stimuli whether they are biological, environmental or psychological i.e. he starts the ability of understanding. According to Haim Ginott, child psychologist;
Development in the early years of our lives is a crucial time for the well being of a human. It may determine how you will perform later on in life, and it’s the time of tremendous development for the physical, mental and emotional self. Development starts as early as conception, when the egg and sperm meet and continue up until we die. Early developments from when we are developing inside the womb are just as important to when we are born and when we continue to grow throughout our lives. Some may argue that certain stages of development are more important than others, but as we discussed in one of our first classes, all stages of development are of all the same importance. Ways that a child’s development that can be both disrupted or
According to Piaget, there are different stages of development in children that is our blueprint that describes the stages of the normal intellectual development that starts at infancy and goes up to adulthood. The stages of children are named after biologist Jean Piaget, which recorded the intellectual development along with abilities in infants, children along with teens. According to Piaget, there are 4 stages of development in children. The four stages are sensorimotor which is from birth up to 18 to 24 months . The second stage is what is called the Preoperational which is toddlerhood to age 7 which is the early childhood years. The third stage of development is the concrete operational which is starts at the age of 7 and goes up to
There has been an ongoing debate with regard to depression and whether it is similar or different for adolescents and adults. While some researchers argue that there are similarities between adolescent and adult depression, only adult criteria are currently being used for diagnosis. Other researchers believe that due to the developmental differences and experiences of adolescents and adults, depression would differ significantly. Moilanen (1993) sought to examine the cognitive processes involved in depression from a developmental perspective. It was hypothesized that those in the formal operational stage would be more likely to have feelings of hopelessness than those in the concrete operational stage (Moilanen, 1993).
Many researchers have contributed around the topic, and have come to a conclusion stating that child development helps shape life in many ways. Most importantly stages of life as a child, and also adolescence has been an important stage of life that has shaped people. In addition it has been stated that as well as in early child development, important changes in life can also take place throughout life and not just early child development. It is very important that as humans we have the opportunity to grow,
In the Concrete Operations stage of development, the children age group ranges from seven to eleven. During this stage, children’s thinking becomes more organized and they begin to understand logic and how to apply it their experiences. Towards the end of this stage, children begin to create their self-identity. In this stage, there are three key aspects that influence their self-identity. Race, gender, and socioeconomic standing are the major contributors to self-identity. Children in this stage of development are able to see the difference between color and race, gender, and newly understanding the socioeconomics of their parents. They are learning the roles and rules associated with each of these affiliations of self-identity. The children are in the age of
There are various factors that affect child development. “What happens during the prenatal period and the earliest months”, says Hutchinson (2008) “sets the stage for the journey through childhood, adolescence and adulthood”. When talking about child development, one needs to take
