Gender inequality has engulfed the United States and placed copious varying roles onto the male and female sexes. According to Leila Aboulela, Minaret, “All through life there were distinctions - toilets for men, toilets for women; clothes for men, clothes for women - then, at the end, the graves are identical.” Discrimination places women into different roles and takes away numerous privileges. However in America today after more than a century of struggles by dedicated activists who fought to alter these ideals and gain further rights, the perception of women in society and their contributions to society have been greatly transformed.

It gave them a taste of what was out in the world and got them to think of themselves as workers instead of just homebodies. At first they were hesitant because it was a new domain, but once they grew accustomed to this new role they weren’t about to evacuate and instead embraced their new power with Rosie the Riveter, the new face of activism. Rosie stood for everything these women fought for and was a symbol of hope and persistence. Her famous words echoed through the streets of the United States, “We Can Do It!” Some of the more daring women wanted to help even more, so they enlisted to go fight alongside the men of their country. These brave women were now soldiers and proved that they could enter dangerous situations and do the job right. For the women of this time there was no going back to the docile housewife of the past. From this point on they were looking for a future outside of the house. Then, in 1945 the war drew to a close and men who had been away began to file home. They were anticipating returning to their old jobs that women had occupied when they were away, however women were resisting to leave.

There are many social injustice issues that the world is facing today. Many ethnic and racial groups are still fighting hard against prejudice and discrimination. Another group that is still facing inequality today, is women. When it comes to inequality in the world today, women as a whole get overlooked. We like to think that we have evolved in our culture and have come so far that often when we think about inequality, we tend to focus and think about minorities such as African Americans, Native Americans and the like. We don’t really think about women and inequality, most people think of women having the same rights and privileges as everyone else does in America, but after doing research and looking at statistics women inequality is still
Inferiority Women have always been a powerful group of people. They give life, support, love and are strong. Although women are a strong group of people, they tend to face many obstacles within America. Three issues women encounter are the wage gap in the workforce, physical and sexual abuse, and inferiority to men. I consider the inequality of women to be the single most important societal problem today. Women deserve to have these issues resolved and be treated equally within our country.
We all have fears but we can’t become a whole person if we don’t allow ourselves to express our struggles. It’s the certain incidents that we have encountered in the lives that make us who are today. On page 42, Andre Lorde (2007) discusses how minorities have had the opportunities of both being “invisible and visible” but yet, still receive so much hate from society. She also discusses how women of color “are not meant to survive” which I thought was very interesting because this world is made of both women and men. It's hard to imagine a progressive world after the next presidential election. On one hand we have a woman who is as corrupted as her own husband and on the other hand we have a sexist bigot whose plans are to “Make America Great Again.” The battle of gender equality will continue unless someone takes the initiative to change these social barriers. It is said that this is a man’s world but for the sake of my future I hope this year's election is not that case. If I ever have the opportunity to speak to the next president on behalf of all oppressed woman my discussion would go as follow:

There is this question which has been plaguing me for quite some time now. The front pages of all newspapers around a year back ran the story of a woman who had been picked up from a Chicago night club by a group of young men, and brutally raped and beaten up, before she was cast off in a darkened alley somewhere. No matter where I went, this was the only piece of news which interested people enough to keep on talking about it, with of course their own views, deductions, and analyses. Good enough, as majority of the people were all for the criminals getting severe penalty for the monstrous atrocity they had inflicted on a 37-year old woman, a mother of two. Gender inequality is basically the unequal treatment or rather the perception of an individual wholly or even partly due to the gender. This practice basically arises from differences in the socially constructed gender roles. This is generally the social process through which people are simply treated in a different way according to their gender. They are disadvantageously treated under the same circumstances on the basis of gender. This unequal treatment is basically noticed in different social environments, from learning institutions as well as universities, churches, working place, game and sporting activities and many more social platform. When the opposite gender is not treating with equality it basically becomes a gender inequality case.
The never ending search for gender equality between men and women are starting to fuel and the problem is getting worse in today's society. To this day there are people who still think otherwise that women are not as equal than men. During this problem Gender comes into place with different aspects such as Gender roles or norms. Years ago women were not able to do have the things that they can today.My paper will focus more on women being treated different than men. The United States is one of the most powerful and wealthy nations in the entire world. The capitalist society and democratic rule allow for citizens of the United States to advance and pursue happiness freely based on their own will. But in a nation with freedoms like no other, there are forces that have been set in place, unchanged since the country was founded over 200 years ago that hold society back, distinctly one side of society: women. The issue on the table is that even in present day society in one of the most developed countries there is still a severe lack of equality among the sexes in american principles and practices. Social gender inequality is apparent from the way people live and communicate with one another, inside our schools, workplaces and even in our homes. Economically and politically, many people are completely unaware of the inequalities written in or in some cases written out of the country’s foundation. In areas such as representation in government, political identities, workforce inequality and constitutional rights, we can compare American statistics with women’s statuses in other country’s societal and political atmospheres around the world. Bringing to light these discrepancies can show us what true women’s liberation could really look like in America and what it could mean for our generations of people to come.
The 1960s were a time of change for many Americans, whether it be dealing with the women’s liberation movement, civil rights, or the anti-war movement. During this period, many issues that had laid beneath the surface were brought out, it was a time for change. The second wave of feminism was established in the sixties, beginning when many women addressed the topics that angered them in the world, specifically pertaining to their own rights. The sixties brought up many feelings, feelings that had been buried or held back for some time, Betty Friedan has been one of those many people to address her feelings and put it out in the world. Friedan wrote a book named The Feminine Mystique, which has become an international bestseller and has sold over one million copies since its release in 1963(citation, from opening of book). Her book focused on the societal expectations that kept women in the home for many years. Friedan captured the anger and frustration many women felt, and offered ways for women to recapture their lives back. Betty Friedan’s book, The Feminine Mystique, launched a conversation about women’s roles in society, which started the second-wave of feminism where society began to see women as self-reliant, and capable to do the tasks men had been doing as long as time.
The world is a hazardous place, but it’s getting worse with the prevalence of gender inequality. Gender inequality can be defined as the process by which women receive different treatment because of their sex. It’s a real-world problem that leaves women feeling incompetent and depressed. In fact, last year, the players on the World Cup-winning United States women’s national soccer team received less money than their counterparts on the men’s national team. This trend is not only seen in sports but also in general. According to the United States Department of Labor, between 1960 and 2016, the median annual earnings by men were more than those of women. To solve the problem of gender inequality, humanity should promote ways to end discrimination based on sex and those in power should be more considerate and pass laws intended to treat females the same as males. Women around the world should be treated like their male counterparts in order for them to feel safe and have better lives.

Gender inequality or gender stratification is the unequal spreading of society’s wealth, power, and privilege between females and males. Whenever this issue is approached, evidence is provided that majority of women popularity are taken for granted and frowned upon as if women cannot do what men can do. This is proof that the oppressor vs. the oppressed is present throughout history; even in religious communities, some can date back to God’s creation. For example, it is written in the Bible, “To the woman he said, I will greatly increase your pain in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for you husband, and he will rule over you.” (Genesis 3:16).
Have you ever thought about equality around the world? I would like to say that everyone is completely equal but sadly that is not true. In the past several years you have probably heard a lot about gender inequality. In 2014 statistics have shown that women make around 79 cents to a man’s dollar. Through a rhetorical analysis of Audi’s 2017 Super Bowl commercial ‘Daughter’ they inform their buyers of the gender inequality around the world and to inform them that they are a fair and equal company when it comes to its employees. Not only that but to show support to every girl and women and to hopefully make in impact on the men as well.
The topic of this report is gender equality which addresses both men and women’s rights and those who identify as a specific gender and how they are affected in modern day. This led to many debates on the issue of gender equality so why is gender considered an issue in today’s society? Anyone can specify themselves to a gender and within each gender there is a risen conflict such as how certain genders are treated. This issue affects everyone from the people of the United States of America (views from political areas) to the ones who passionately reveal that gender inequality is a human rights issue. The United States is a country of freedom so it is important to note that identifying this issue now could result in a change of freedoms or rights for all. We have to tackle this issue through different perspectives such as identifying yourself whether or not it is right for women to be treated differently from men. In our constitution, the 9th amendment states “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.” (Staff, Lll). This shows that we can not make individual judgements based solely on the person’s gender; however, people in modern society continue to state their bias within politics.
