Over many years, genre has become an important role in everyone’s life. Scholarly authors such as Winsor, Pare, Berkenkotter, and Huckin, have noticed this trend and how it is important for people to understand this concept in order to understand writing. Some of these trends are noticeable in social groups such as businesses, educational settings, and other discourse communities in which they all were simplified to a specific standard within their group. These genres will facilitate activities, impact social relationships, identities, and structure communities. It is important to know that not all communities will share common genres; in fact, they might vary heavily.
In the field of education, there is a difference between school reports of students and state reports of students. It is common for these reports to have the same information, but at the same time, there is also information that will vary.

Genres have the basic ability to facilitate the activities in which a group or individual partakes in. As we saw in the state and local reports, they had some similar information such as graphs and charts with state or local assessments that students took, generic information on teachers and the school, and also had to be accessible on varying platforms such as paper or computer to take into consideration those who are not able to get either or. These ideas help shape the education community such as who they are, and their goals to better students development. It is important for education majors in college and current educators to understand how this process works so they get the most out of the system. I know many education classes talk about teacher criteria and what is expected of them. These norms have been created by state and government officials, and will always play a role in how the education system
I approached my genre writing based on Writing in the Health Sciences guidelines for research papers. Since my chosen paper was a research paper, I looked for the sections in a research paper that included the abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, and references. This helped me decide what needed to be in each section so I could elaborate on if it was included or was not.
When I first learned that the second unit would be about writing in different genres I was totally confused. What did this mean? Would I be doing different writings of mystery, romance or science fiction? That was my only small narrow view of what a genre is. I have now come to learn that a genre is not only simply whether something is fiction or nonfiction but a genre is different types of writing from a recipe to a resume. I have come to learn that there are so many different types of genres all unique in their own respect and all written from a different perspective.
With this information, a region of schools can compare their results and figure out how well a region is doing in comparison to other regions. However, this is not completely valid due to the difference in assessment in each region. Therefore, they cannot be accurately compared to other regions because of this difference. (Costa and Kallick, 1995)
Have you ever wondered why you were forced to take an English course in college, where you had to learn about genre and different forms of writing? Ever also wondered, when am I going to ever use this in everyday life? Well, I am here to tell you there is an explanation to both of those questions and it should make one think about what they are learning on a whole different level. Starting with genre, you should know that pretty much everything has a genre within.
The world of writing is a vast and thoroughly confusing place, so vast in fact that it could not be navigated without an in-depth navigational chart. This chart is composed of and organized by terms that help us get a clearer picture of what we want to see. These terms are genre, audience, and most importantly rhetorical situation. These terms are all interrelated in which you can’t fully explore without having each one identified. One of the motives why writers delve into themselves, to put pen to paper so to speak is to express their views on a topic.
Maybe you don’t have a specific set of claims or beliefs you want your audience to adopt. Even if you do, provide brief responses to the following:
A discourse community is a group of people or communicators who share the same common goals or interests and use different forms of communication to achieve these goals. Some of these forms of communication may range from reading, writing, the use of technology such as blogging and emailing, and even visual art such as painting and drawing. As an English major focusing on the aspect of creative writing, the discourse community I so happened to be associated with is of the English subject. The discourse community of the English literature is made up of many people, genres of literature, and even terms. The discourse community of English literature can be traced back to as early as the year C.658 with the development of Anglo-Saxon literature. Some influential eras of English literature include : Romanticism, Victorian literature, Medieval Theater, Poetry, and the Elizabethan Period. Of course with every discourse community there are a vast number of people who help to make it up. In the discourse community of English some of these people include author and playwright William Shakespeare, author Mark Twain, author and poet Jane Austen , and a slew of famous African-American authors some including Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, Lorraine Hansberry, and poet Maya Angelou.
The musical film has always held a special place for me. From my time as a drama student in high school, my eyes have been opened to the amazing world of the musical and especially the musical film. The musical film is a film genre in which the characters sing songs that are integrated into the overall story. Since musicals first began in theaters, musical films usually contain similar elements. These elements often simulate that there is a live audience watching. In a sense, the film viewers become the audience members, at a theater production, as the actor performs directly to them. Due to the popularity of musicals in the theater, the style was quickly brought over into film. In 1927, the musical film genre began
Genre is the French word for 'type'. Type is the kind of text it is.
No matter which type of job or career the author is looking for, a resume is a great first step. Generally, resumes are built and created in early adulthood by the author them self. There are a few things that can be assumed about the authors. First, they are middle to upper class individuals who like to show off their own personal qualifications, education, and academic and professional experiences they have obtained throughout their life. The audience in which will be looking over these resumes could be a pretty broad range generally speaking, but for the most part whoever the author is submitting the resume to will be the intended audience for this genre. I think it is safe to say this genre will be around for many years to come,
The purpose of my essay is to examine the how “Community” manipulates genre, and whether or not this show can be defined as a Sitcom. My aim is to take a look at the television series through its construction and the way in which Community plays with different genres. I will also examine the way conventional genres are not considered in this show, by looking at the use of intertextuality, the identity of the characters and the narrative of the show.
I decided on this type of genre because it will allow me to better depict the similarities and differences between each article. Furthermore, this type of artistic revision will allow me to further explore the tactics of persuasion each article used. For exampgole, I will
Genres assist individuals in categorizing related topics within a group in order for people to differentiate between different subjects. However, with so many genres, we often do not stop to consider what features contribute to making a specific topic, a topic of its own. For advertisements, the conventions of the genre demonstrate to the reader that the author has a strong desire to share their product or message by using strategies that subconsciously triggers our senses in order to attract our attention. For food recipe blogs, the conventions of the genre prove that the author provide images and methods to receive feedback if they need more assistance in order to successfully recreate the recipe
Genre is known to change discourse by the format the information is presented to the audience (Varela, 2008). It is also a category of composition that is characterized by a particular style, form or content as dictate by Webster Third Dictionary. However Trosborg (n.d) stated that for the past decade, genre identification, classification and description have been scholarly concern. Certain scholars dictate that genre is defined primarily around its basic external criteria such as journals and newspaper discourse while other scholars stand on the opinion that genre can be classify by its communicative purpose, linguistic content and form of role its play in the discourse made (Trosborg, n.d).
To categorise texts, allows us to view the world from another perspective, and make sense of the world. This is the function of genre. This allows the responder to class texts even further into sub genres, which have conventions they follow to. Such as Edgar Allen Poe’s ‘The Purloined Letter’ can be classified into the genre of crime, yet can also be interpreted to fit the conventions of detective crime writing, and mystery. This is made possible through Poe’s utilisation of devices used in mystery and detective novels such as red herrings and denouement.
