George Harvey Strait was born and bred in the Texas cowboy tradition. He came into the world on May 18, 1952 in Poteet, Texas (“Strait Facts”) and was raised in nearby Pearsall, TX on his family's working cattle ranch, a legacy in the family for over 100 years. His childhood was spent working with his father and brother on their farm, and he carried on the ranching tradition by studying agriculture at Texas State University (Dickinson). In 1971, he married his wife, Norma, and shortly after enlisted in the United States Army. While stationed in Hawaii, he began playing country music with his Army-sponsored band, Rambling Country. This began his lifelong love affair with country music, and in 1975 he was honorably discharged from the Army …show more content…
His 2013-2014 tour “Cowboy Rides Away,” is his last tour but he's not done making music and earning awards yet. In November 2013, he received the ASCAP Founder's Award (Toczylowski), and won CMA's Entertainer of the Year Award for the second time (Jamik). He also accepted Billboard's highest accolade, the Legend of Live Award and was honored with the Country Radio Broadcasters Career Achievement Award (Billboard). Regardless of George Strait's incredible history of recognition and awards, he has always been one of my favorite country music artists. I am a true, long time fan of traditional country and I love his style in particular because of the dash of honky tonk and swing music that comes with it. My husband has roots in Texas and we spend quite a bit of time there on vacation. We enjoy the cowboy lifestyle and have always spent our free time enjoying country music, country two step dancing at the dance hall, being outside horseback riding, attending the rodeo, visiting the county fair and enjoying the laid back country life. One day we plan on moving back to Texas permanently and in the meantime, George's music makes us feel at home wherever we are. In addition to the lifestyle George's music keeps alive, he is also very active in charities benefiting America's veterans. This is very important to me and I
Southern music known today as country music became popular in the 1920’s. This was music that was based on folk music of cowboys in the southeast (Collins English Dictionary, 2003). In most of the early music the artist played stringed instruments like fiddles, guitars, banjos and some were even playing harmonicas. When this type of music started some people called it
Artist like Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Jimmie Rodgers, George Jones, Willie Nelson and many more were are crucial parts in shaping the genre of country music. Each one of these artists had their own spin on country music making it diverse but managed to keep country music as country music. Their influence can be felt today. Country music was born from artists that were able to write anything from heartache to happiness. Patsy Cline was also an important musician who was named the most influential email country artist of all time. There have been many stars throughout the years in country music. Two of the most iconic are Alan Jackson and George Strait. Alan Jackson hit his peak in the late 90s and early 2000s. He has not been as productive as of 2015, but he is still creating some music. George Strait was most productive in the mid to early 90s and like Alan he is at the end of his career. Country music was dramatically affected by these two and they both did it with class. They always made music that was family friendly and anyone could listen to it.
Just three years ago, Randy Travis suffered from a life-threatening stroke and fans thought they had lost him forever. Now Randy is showing that all hope isn't lost. His personal life took on a challenging twist when he had infidelity issues in his marriage and led him to depression. With the support of his music ministry, he took on a 60-day sabbatical and focused on his personal and family needs. After this period, he also made changes in his musical career and
Since I was raised in a small, country town in Oklahoma I definitely heard my fair share of country music. For the most part I wasn’t a fan of mainstream country music because it all sounded very similar, in my opinion. I found Blue Grass music or more Folk inspired country music to be more interesting. But when I was offered the opportunity to attend a Jason Aldean concert with a few friends this semester I didn’t want to miss out. I knew what to expect going to a Jason Aldean concert and that was a lot of boots and a lot of pearl snaps, and I was definitely correct. Jason was in Oklahoma on February 5th for his “We Were Here” tour. I had never been to a country music concert before and was looking forward to the new experience.
Strait says that his father, John, help him keep his faith through the rough times and that he would not be the man he is today without him (West). Having a famous uncle can be tricky because either no one believes it is true or they ask if he gives special treatment. The truth is I have never met him before, he has let the feud with part of his family get in the way of meeting the rest of them, maybe it will happen one day. It is still pretty cool to be related to a famous person, my mother says that George and I share the talent of music. He is one of the biggest country stars in America. Known as the “King of Country”, George has sold more than 65 million albums with nearly 50 number 1 hits and has performed in front of 104,000 plus people
The contribution to music demonstrated by the career of Luke Bryan proves beyond a doubt that the country music singer should be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. His worthiness of this award is shown in his, charity work, the awards he has won and all the achievements he has made, and everyone who has inspired him to become a country music singer in the first place. Bryan would not be where he is today with the support of his wife and 2 kids. Bryan’s parents are peanut farmers and he used to help them when he was in high school. His brother died in a car accident 2 years ago and Bryan and his sister went through a tuff time when that happened. Luke Bryan was born July 17, 1976 in Leesburg, Georgia. Bryan got his first guitar at the age of fourteen and by the age of fifteen he was able to entertain a small crowd. It was all uphill from there. ("Luke Bryan Biography.")
Charlie Pride did it in 1971. Darius Rucker did it in 2009. That’s it. Two black men, spanning thirty-eight years, are the only black artists to win a Country Music Association Award. With country music rooted in bluegrass and rhythm and blues, why aren’t there more black country music stars? When considering the roots of country music, and how closely related country is to blues, bluegrass and honky tonk music, an examination of what happened to all the black musicians seems warranted, no? This paper examines the dearth of black artists in country music and the careers of one of the few black artists who has had commercial success in this genre of music.
Have you ever wondered why George Strait is the King of Country music? With Georges many followers across the world and many awards he received this means he would be set up for success right? George has had a lot of major and minor challenges throughout his background and career, but that hasn’t slowed him down any on his awards and number one hit singles and albums. George Jones started from nothing and made his way to be a country music hall of famer. He is one of the best country music singers of all time. Between car accidents, fighting with his wife’s, money, alcoholism, and drug abuse all almost ended his career many times. George Jones, one of America's greatest country music stars of all time, he had a rough time with his alcohol and drugs, but still found a way to receive the Lifetime Grammy Award.
Chris Stapleton released his debut album, Traveller, in the Spring of 2015. This album is characterized by what I would describe as a traditional country feel, but with a slightly more modern sound, or to be more technical, a country rock meets blues album. This record, and Chris Stapleton himself, went relatively unnoticed by the general public after initial release. It was not until the 2015 CMA awards when Stapleton performed “Tennessee Whiskey” with Justin Timberlake that his album truly took off (Welch). Since then, songs from Traveller can frequently be heard on national country radio stations, as well as on tour, a show I will be attending in May.

Aside from proliferating in his genre of origin, Bentley is also known to play bluegrass music, with light touches of jazz and mellow on the side. Truly a man full of wonders, Dierks Bentley is now being recognized as one of the most famous country musicians of the current

Country music is one of the most popular genres of music throughout America. There are many influential figures that have changed the way country music sounds, and how people interpret it. Two important people who have made a huge impact on country music overtime are Johnny Cash and Luke Bryan. From their early life, their career, and how society views them, they have opened the minds of people and country musicians all over the country. Johnny Cash’s songs help people to experience his life growing up through the Great Depression and how people lived back then. Through Luke Bryan’s songs people could understand what life was like for Luke growing up in Georgia and all the hardships he faced. Johnny Cash and Luke Bryan are two of the many
