God 's Power Is The Environment

One of the most impressive illustrations of God’s power is the environment. The environment is an important and sacred resource with which God has entrusted all of mankind with. God expects everybody to be good stewards of the environment, especially Christians. God first stated his desire for mankind to be good stewards of the environment when he told Adam and Eve "Be fruitful and increase in number, fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." (Genesis 1:28, New American Bible). God made mankind stewards of the earth. The industrial revolution brought with it mass produced goods which were both inexpensive to make and purchase. Over time, it began to make more financial sense to merely toss out a used item and replace it with a new one. The down side to having access to relatively inexpensive goods is the lack of motivation to reuse / recycle goods. This has brought about a few environmental issues. These issues include the pollution of the air, water and land. A study conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revealed “In 2014, the 89 million tons of MSW recycled and composted provided an annual reduction of over 181 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions, comparable to the annual emissions from over 38 million passenger cars.” (Materials Management, 2017) Recycling consists of taking used and / or unwanted items, breaking them down into their core components and then manufacturing new goods in order to prevent wasting raw materials. Recycled items are taken to recycling facilities, organized, washed and converted into new items.
