1. Summary
In this report we have chosen to analysis the innovation that is the ‘Google Search Engine’. We have chosen to base our report on the Google search engine; a revolutionary innovation that has transformed the way in which the internet is used.
1.1 Introduction
Google began life as a research project between two Stanford University graduate students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin in January, 1996. They hypothesized that developing a search engine that analysed the relationships between websites would be more effective than merely counting the words on a page. Thus, the Google search engine differs from other search engines as it uses a programme that checks the amount of back links to a page, therefore assuming that those pages

This was the first sign of Google having a major impact on the industry.
Figure 1.1 in the appendices is a table showing the contributing factors which over the years have made Google the success it is today.
From the analysis this table it is clear to see that since Google was launched they have gone from strength to strength. They have continuously added new innovations to exceed their competitors and gain such a large market share. (For more information on their competitors please see section 2.3, of this report). The major innovations which have had such a great impact on the industry include “Google’s increase in language versions” (www.google.com) this enable users around the world to search in their own language rather than English. This opened up the market available to Google and subsequently they opened up many R&D departments over the last couple of years worldwide which will aid their innovations.
Analysing the impact of Google was an interesting and intricate task due to the ambiguous and undefined nature of the industry the company is in. In reality, is Google merely competing amongst other search engines such as Yahoo, the internet as a whole or perhaps an even larger range of industries? “Librarians, publishers, and aggregators alike often call Google their main competitor” (C, Tenopir) The fact that librarians are now calling Google their main competitor shows the true
Sergey Brin noted, “Some say Google is God. Others say Google is Satan. But if they think Google is too powerful, remember that with search engines, unlike other companies, all it takes is a single click to go to another search engine.” Nicholas Carr’s essay challenges this assertion. Nicholas Carr believes even though there are multiple search engines, “the faster we surf across the Web-the more links we click and pages we view-the more opportunities Google and other companies gain to collect information about us and to feed us advertisements.” This topic elicits such strong responses because technology is a part of our everyday lives. Technology is only becoming more advanced and will continue to be a source of debate for all who use it.
From its humble beginnings in 1998, Google set out to provide a simple, yet effective service for bringing the unlimited potential of the internet to average users trying desperately to make sense of the billions of pages information across the World Wide Web. In fact, Google’s founders initially had little interest in forming the corporation, but as the burgeoning search engine took shape, and the cost of continuing its
Google is well known to everyone. No matter if you are young or not so young, computer savvy or not, Google’s name will undoubtedly pop up in when discussing computers. Google continues to grow swiftly every day. It began in 1996 with the meeting of Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford. Larry, who was 22 at the time had graduated from University of Michigan and was considering attending Stanford. Sergey, who was 21, was assigned the task of showing Larry around and although it has been said that they failed to agree on most everything they became firm friends.
Google is a renowned search engine among computer and internet users. The company was launched at 1988 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page while they were Ph. D. students at Stanford University. Sergey and Larry first went to Yahoo with their search engine, but Yahoo turned them down in January 1996. If yahoo had accepted their search engine then Google wouldn’t be at the position where it is currently. It might have sunk or would have risen above what Google is now. But since it didn’t have let’s not scratch our heads into that. Yahoo declined Sergey and Larry’s project and later in 1988 they both opened there company called Google.
At first presented just as a search engine, Google has successfully ruled this section because of the speed and productivity of operations as indicated by the mission of the organization "to sort out world 's data and make it all around available and valuable". As it is represented in Figure underneath, Google has the piece of the pie of over 79% in desktop search engine, while its nearest rival Microsoft 's Bing has the short of what one fifth of Google 's piece of the pie. Google 's flow authority in search engine draws in gigantic incomes by means of publicizing and this position has
The story forces the reader into the current state of Google to explain to the reader the current prowess of the company. The text then takes a turn and drops you into the lap of Stanford Graduate students Larry Page and Sergei Brin. The two combined to make the perfect balance of creativity and genius The two quickly develop the link-rating system PageRank, and from there they had all of the components necessary to create search engine prototype, BackRub. The authors then display the integrity of Brin and Page first attempts to sell the Google search engine. They also describe how through extreme difficulty
