We’ve all been there where you were assigned different members to work with that do not cooperate or work hard enough. People around us believe that group projects are fun and can be exciting to work with others, but this is not the case. I am strongly against group work, from the different opinions, to the time management, and the slackers who do not do any of the work but still get credit. The different personalities and opinions of the group members creates many complications during the process of getting the work finished. Firstly, there are the different viewpoints in the group that make it hard to cooperate with one another. In groups, there are different personalities, making it hard to fit everyone’s ideas into the project. The …show more content…
“Slackers” are the people in the group who lack the effort to do anything in the group. These people will just run around the room, acting like animals, and will not try to get any work done, thinking that you will do it for them. These individuals will mess with your plans in anyway possible, whether it be the construction of the project, or the pieces of the project you assign to each member. These people will give you lousy excuses for not finishing their part of the project, and make the rest of the group agitated. They will also ruin your grade on this project. Unless you want to stay up all night to do their work to salvage you and your teammates’ grades, you will not be getting a good grade if you are missing things that the “slacker” decided they did not need to do. Even if you have people who are frustrating, there are the people who will work with you and want a good grade as badly as you do. These people will work with you to try to finish the project and cooperate with you. But even if you have these especially exceptional people, there are still the people who will fight with you with everything and will not work at all. Group work is the worst part of school, with the people who do not cooperate and work, the time management, and the different opinions. I believe that you should tell your teachers that you do not like nor understand the meaning of group work, so that they may reconsider this teaching method. All in all, group work is horrible and not a great system to work with the
As a college student, I don’t enjoy group work. I am the student that dominates the group and does almost all of the work, establishing group times to talk about what needs to be done, and making sure that attendance is mandatory
In my opinion, group work is a type of cooperative learning that helps people to accomplish a certain task in a faster and more effective manner. Team working also helps to achieve the tasks that are impossible to finish by one individual. However, if people in a group have a lot of conflicts, group work will not be able to achieve as much as we expected. There are many reasons which lead to dissatisfaction in group work such as individualism as well as conflicts in opinion and time.
Group work is an important part of work. In many jobs, group work is a function that is required. Therefore it’s important to develop the skills and practices at University. In this essay I critically analyse my own experiences against the literature.
Working in a group to achieve a high quality group project can be one of people’s most difficult school experiences. Working in a group is tough because there is often someone who does not pull their own weight. “There are five stages to group development, adjourning, forming, storming, performing, and norming” (John & Wiley pg 166). Christine’s group from the Case Study the Forgotten Group Member is in between the Storming and Norming Stages. The Storming Stage “is dealing with tensions and defining group tasks,” while the Norming Stage is dealing with high emotionality and tension among the group members” (John & Wiley pg. 166). Christine and her group could have had better
Something that we learned as a group was that cooperation helps a lot. Certain tasks were accomplished faster and this showed us that one person does not have to do the entire project on their own. Procrastination is also detrimental, causing cramming on days before deadlines. This can be stressful and force meetings to be postponed. Our group has also learned to follow a set schedule. Following a schedule allows us to complete all of our work on time.
I believe many students do not like group assignments because for the most part a person or two do not pull their wait leaving the leader doing most of the work. Other problems includes having to deal with various personalities, the work distribution, trying to communicate with each other, feeling vulnerable, and the way everyone gets the same grade because it is a group effort. So the lazy people get the same grade as the people who worked hard.
Throughout middle school and my freshmen year of high school, I was never extremely comfortable in large group projects. For most of my life, I preferred to work alone or do most of the work in group projects. There was a time, however, in my sophomore Project Lead the Way class where my teacher was explaining to us the grave importance of group work and how it translates into the real world of engineering. After the speech, we were put in groups of eight to solve simple engineering problems, and I began to push myself to interact with my unknown peers. Slowly but surely, I grew more comfortable in group scenarios and kept pushing myself forward. Looking forward to today, I am a captain of my soccer team and a constant leader in group projects
During my college life on campus in my major, I normally get a lot of group assignment to complete. In my second semester, I have been engaged with some hard working group members who willing to achieve their goals. In this case, all of us were on the same pace to complete the assignment and get it done on time to the best of our ability. In my communication class called editing and film, One of the projects was to film some athletes performing and write an article about the sport. There were five members in my group and we all work together and each individual gets a sign task to do and complete it without an issue. We get one week to perform the task and the follow Monday we would have to present it to the class, we have complete the work on time because we all work hard together as a team to get the job done
Throughout life there are many instances in which an individual has to work in a group to complete a task/project. The importance of group work is to have teamwork with each member of the group. Humans are driven to connect with each other and by working as a group ideas become much more enriched and the ideas or thoughts that each person ‘brings to the table’ each individual is able to add onto that idea or it can trigger one to think of something completely different.
I did not like the fact that my grade relied on other people. On the other hand, I had some control over that by telling them how I felt about what was going on. None of my group members was a total slacker. Although, I did not know my group members personally, so I was not sure whether or not they would take responsibility and complete what was assigned to them. They all pulled through and we achieved our goal of completing the assignment. We each worked
a major group project I have had to work on in my life was my freshman magnet project. In this project we had to work in groups of four to research a career in its entirety including degrees to obtain and schools you can go to. From the very beginning we knew this project is going to be difficult as it had many components. we decided that divided the work would be the easiest for everyone's success. as a whole we were able to accomplish a well designed poster and presentation of our work. Separated however we were able to create a successful portfolio, the most important part of the project. We each individual we did our research on our chosen part and when the time came combined them onto a singular files which can be modified by everyone
There comes a point in a person's life when they have to cooperate with others on a group project. The people you work with might not have the same point of view as you or the same work ethic. This a part of life that a person has to deal with sooner or later. Being a lone wolf is simply not enough in today's society.
First, a lot of the time someone might do their part. If you have ever noticed that there is usually a person who does not do or finish their part If one person does not do their work it will affect the whole groups grade. I know many people who have done this then the whole group had to work on the part that the kid did not do. Then your teacher will get mad at the whole group for something that that one kid did not do.
Why projects are bad for students Group projects are often assigned in schools all over the nation and every adult and child have been at the time when they get a bad grade on a group assignment because of a. For this reason, group assignments are often groaned upon in a lot of schools, especially if it means working with someone you don’t like, and that can hurt you academically. That is why group assignments should not be assigned anywhere because of the academic risk of uncooperative or mean group members messing up your hard work and effort, causing you to get a bad grade over something you meant to do good on, even though they offer pros, the cons out weigh the pros. In the classroom, the uncooperative members could be stubborn, mean,
My group consisted of Bailee Wallace,Adrian Watkins, Jermecia Edwards, and myself. My group members kind of fulfilled their duties as a whole, but as individuals not so well. Two certain group members were either slacking on the work, not contributing at all, or having attitudes.Bailee did what she felt was necessary to do to make our group assignments seem and feel worthwhile.I proofread everything and attempted to get the other members to help us out a little bit more. Most of all Bailee and I did most of the work. One of our group members had an attitude during this whole project and we even had an altercation because of this particular problem. The other was sick, but still knew that he or she had responsibilities to take care of. He got his work turned in right on time. The other did not want to deal with me.
