Summary
After reviewing the important concepts of the Hawkins and Clinton book, I was able to finalize the 8 most interesting points. During the book review, it was mentioned that as Christian counselors, we need to maintain a steady pace with the progression in research, practice, and treatment (Hawkins & Clinton, 2015, p. 2). From my understanding, enhancing our counseling methods and incorporating valuable resources, will result in a more spiritual work in the ministry of counseling.
The first important concept that I discovered was The cry of the soul. This concept stating that christian counselors hear the cry of the soul, which means being attentive with clients. And focusing on their past hurts, present struggles and future hopes (Hawkins & Clinton, 2015, p. 3). To deliver the best counseling, it’s important to know and understand the journey of the client and see the various obstacles they’ve endured during their growth in life.
Possessing the soul is another important concept that I encountered upon. The purpose of the concept is to find our hearts true home in Christ alone, which brings us closer to God and makes us experience a stronger contentment and fulfillment (Hawkins & …show more content…

Hawkins and Clinton (2015), stated that using the knowledge of counseling and incorporating it in the theology and spirituality, delivers a deeper counseling session with clients seeking a closer connection to God and a sense of hope (p. 8).
