In order for someone to achieve success they must do whatever is necessary. Her arrogance and selfishness are the reasons which led her to success and achieving her goals. She said that “no one’s happiness but my own is in my power to achieve or to destroy”. She encouraged others to worry about their needs and ignore the needs of others.

On April 14, 1866 Anne Sullivan was born in Feeding Hills, Massachusetts. Anne Sullivan helped blind and deaf Helen Keller how to communicate. Anne Sullivan's parents had five children, but two of them died in their infancy. Anne Sullivan and her two siblings grew up in poor conditions. When Anne was five she found out that she had an eye disease called trachoma, which damaged her eyesight incredibly. Anne's mother Alice, suffered from tuberculosis and she had a difficult time getting places after her mom suffered from a fall. Anne's mother died when she was only eight years old. At a young age Anne still had a strong personality. Annes abusive brother Thomas abandoned the family. Anne and her younger brother Jimmie were sent to a house for the poor.

She started to analyze the information she had from her study and found that those who were living wholehearted lives were not always the most successful in life. Those people were not accomplishing more or satisfying more than others. They were simply who they are. They trusted that they were worthy of compliments and love even though they were not always successful and did not have all the things we think of in regards to successful

When she was just two years old, she developed an illness her family doctor described as “Brain Fever.” The brain fever took both her seeing and hearing abilities, leaving her deaf and blind. Despite her discrepancy, she maintained hopeful and learned new ways to communicate such as signs, speaking, and writing.

In the book I read, I Am Helen Keller by Brad Meltzer, a little girl, Helen Keller, overcomes being blind and deaf. Helen is able to learn many things with her disability and made large impacts to other people’s lives. Helen was strong and believes everybody can overcome any obstacles that comes their way.

The story of how Keller’s teacher, Anne Sullivan, broke through the isolation imposed by a near complete lack of language, allowing to blossom into the exemplary system of bravery, has been widely shown and known through the dramatizations of the play and film, The miracle worker. She was born in west Tuscumbia, Alabama on June 27, 1880 which is now commemorated as Helen Keller day in the state of Pennsylvania.
