In this report I’m going to describe the five stages of the life cycle and the anticipated development processes in which occur throughout each stage. I will also look at a service user whom I have cared for in the past and describe the needs associated with their own development. I will also describe how my knowledge and understanding of TWO contrasting psychological perspectives will inform my practice in the workplace. Signs of aging will start to show. For some it might be a concern as they might have health worries due to age. This is the time that they might become a grandparent, this will boost their self- esteem. The individual might be coming to terms with dying or may have already have accepted the fact of death. I am now going to focus on a service user whom I have worked with in the past. I will describe what stage in the life cycle the service user is at and I will also reflect on what needs are associated with the service users own development. I will explain what psychological perspectives have helped me while caring for the service user. Mary is a 37 year old female with various learning disabilities. Mary still lives at home with her sister as she fears to be independent. Mary attends a day centre 5 days a week where she can socialise with other people and gain more independence as an individual. Mary has a brother who regularly visit, her mother sadly died two years ago and her father left when Mary was a teenager. Mary’s father sexually and physically abused her when she was a child, this abuse was on-going for about 8 years. When her mother found out about this through Marys sister, she confronted her husband, he swiftly denied it and left the soon after. Marys never heard from her father again after he left. Mary has been attending the day centre since she left school when she was 18, she has made significant progress throughout according to her key
I am currently working for inc corp as a Supported Living Assistant providing support to a young gentleman with both physical and developmental disabilities in his own home. For the purpose of this report and in line with inc confidentiality procedures and the Data Protection Act 1998, I have changed names in order to protect the individual and maintain confidentiality.
Ralph has chosen this song as he loves it. It's a song he'd love to be able to play on guitar. Ralph has stated he loves to play his guitar. However he gets frustrated when he try's to play it on his own. He often has his guitar out when he is relaxing in the unit and has stated he wants to write a song about his mum. Ralph actually sung part of a song he had thought up. The lyrics were very warm towards his mum. However this song was very short and maybe if Ralph gets better at the guitar with these lessons he will be able to put a whole song together about his mum. This would be a very positive event as
During the time I have been employed within social care I have worked in conjunction with various organisations who offer support to individuals experiencing grief and loss. Victim Support Scotland is an organisation I have recently referred one of my cases to who has suffered a loss. My service users father was subsequently murdered following a drug related crime, the incident was reported on nationally and images were published on the internet and papers. My service user (who I will name as Ben for the purposes of confidentiality) is a 14 year old male, he maintained a close relationship with his father albeit did not live in the same house as him due to his parents divorcing. Following the death, Ben appeared to pursue his life as normal and at no point showed any emotion for his loss. However, 5 weeks later his mother informed me that Ben began to spend much of his time researching his father's name using Google and started to keep his father's belongings in his bedroom. He started to become increasingly emotional stating he didn't understand how his father died and on several occasions left school to return home.
Loss is something we all share and experience in life. There are different types of loss which affect our everyday lives, emotions and relationships. If our attachment is strong then we will feel stronger emotions. The complexity of our attachment will also dictate how we move through our grief.
Throughout this reflective account i will refer to the individual I was working with as Gloria. I have not used her real name throughout this piece to protect her identity and to ensure that I am maintaining confidentiality. “You must respect people’s rights to confidentiality” (NMC 2013) Gloria is a 74 year old lady who lives at the residential care home at which I am currently on placement Gloria is under the Adults with Incapacity Scotland Act 2000 due to a diagnosis of Dementia. She is mobile with the aid of a Zimmer frame and is still as independent as her health allows. She requires the assistance of 1 carer for most activities of daily living. Disability- many people suffer from discrimination when they have a disability. This is because they are different from others and can not physically do the things others can. This leaves them left out, not been able to socialize and feeling upset. For example if there was a man in a wheel chair in an office with his work colleges and everyone ignored him because he was different this would be discrimination.

Human services professionals are those who facilitate and empower those in society who require assistance in meeting their basic human needs both emotionally, mentally, and physically. Human services professionals work with diverse cultures in many different settings to provide prevention, education, and resources for individuals, families, groups and communities. Some of the populations served are, children and families, adolescents, and the homeless. To support groups in crisis human services professionals must be committed, patient, possess listening skills, and have an ability to be empathetic without reducing one’s ability to be empowered (Martin, 2011).
Over the year both positive and negative influences have influenced my learning. The skill I have developed for learning is my aspiration is to become a midwife, this influences my learning in the way that it gives me the hunger to learn new things and improve my knowledge and grades. By improving my knowledge I will be able to go onto the next stage of my development. I believe that if I did not have such a desire to be a midwife, it would affect my learning by creating a mental blockage which would stop my ability to take things in and learn as I would become lazy and not interested from the lack of direction in my life.
