Parents after being away from their children all day, the first words out of their mouth, sadly, may be “So did you finish your homework?” (Kohn). One mother said it permanently damaged her relationship with her son because i forced her to be an enforcer rather than a mother. Literacy expert, Harvey Daniels, says “Most of what homework is doing is driving kids away from learning” (Kohn). There are some types of homework that do help though. One example of homework that helps is Spaced Repetition. One side of the argument is that people believe that homework doesn’t help students. 4 in 10 parents say that most homework is just busy work. If you are wondering,not a single study has ever supported the folk wisdom that homework teachers good work habits or develops positive character traits such as self-discipline, responsibility or independence. Adults don’t see the pain there kids are in because of homework. The homework that the students get is driving them away from wanting to learn. Spaced repetition is a good example of the kind of evidence-based techniques that researchers have found have a positive impact on learning.
