Whether playing with friends for fun or by professionals for entertainment or simply watching from home, basketball is very enjoyed all over the world. Beginning with a unique history, basketball has evolved over time from a simple idea into a professional career choice for those with the unique skill set. During the winter of 1892 in a town in Massachusetts a physical education teacher, Dr. James Naismith, at a YMCA school created a game where young men could play indoors aside from going outside in the freezing cold. To be prepared for the game, Dr. Naismith came up with some rules for the game, gathered two peach baskets for hoops, a soccer ball, and coached the first basketball game in history. Dr. Naismith came up with thirteen rules. While four out of the thirteen rules that he came up with, are no longer followed in today 's version of basketball, the nine that are left were slightly modified and are still in use today. The original thirteen rules are as follows: The ball is thrown with both hands in any direction. The player can not run with the ball, so they need to throw it where they caught it from. The ball is batted in any direction not with the fist but with both hands. The ball is held in between your hands just not with the
LAW 5 - Referees- The referee makes sure that these 17 laws are followed throughout the game. In soccer when there is a foul committed then the referee can either decide to stop the game and give a free kick or let the game play on to see if the team who gains the foul receives an advantage in the play (shot on goal, goal, pass up field and other plays are considered advantages).
My entire life, I have lived and breathed basketball. When I was only three days old, I was being passed around in the stands of a basketball game while my parents coached my older sister. In first grade, I was begging my parents to let me play. I couldn’t, however, because in my town kids don’t start playing basketball until the third grade. They let me join an Upward basketball league that was near my area, but Upward wasn’t competitive enough for me. So the next year, I went a couple towns over to join their city league so I could play. From then on, basketball was my passion.

Not only was this game given their own ball, but it became so successful that more than 300 million people play this game today. “He was inspired by a game he had played as a child called “duck on a rock,” in which players lob a small rock at a “duck” placed on top of a large rock in an attempt to knock the “duck” off,” states Wonderopolis.org.
As a catcher you are the only one there to catch the ball behind the plate. When people are running the bases, they are allowed to steal once the pitch is thrown. You have to make sure that if the pitcher's ball doesn’t get hit that you're there to catch the ball, or else they will take off and steal that base. When a wild pitch is thrown, you have to block it from going past you, or else that leaves a big opportunity for the runner to advance. When the pitcher throws a ball that is heading for the ground, you have to make yourself as big as a target as possible to stop the ball from bouncing past you. To do this you should switch to your knees, “Your glove should move from your target position to directly between your legs
He got to thinking and started combining ideas from other games to make the game of what it is known today as basketball. Naismith invented this game in 1891 (Faurschou).
The game of basketball has an interesting origin. Dr.Naismith , an instructor in a college in America was thinking of a game that could be played indoors during winter months. He hit upon the novel idea of playing a game with the ball and two baskets nailed to the opposite walls of a gymnasium. In order to score a goal, a team had to throw the ball into the basket of the rival team. Initially, whenever a goal was scored, the ball had to be retieved by climbing on the baskets. In the beginning, the number of players in the team also happened to be unwidely. With the passage of time, the game became highly popular and specific rules were laided down. These rules have since undergone many changes. Basketball today is a high-speed ball game and it is one of the highly popular games in America. The students of the college where the game has been originated, took it to the other parts of the
