As I said earlier academic performances are crucial in high school years , as well as in college/ university, and that’s why I think that schools could be stricter about policies on cell phones inside classes and no allow them during class., to prevent any distraction and cheating. studies have shown that people using social media have poor grades
teens spend time on social media sites rather than doing their work
easily get distracted during class time
with cell phone, it’s easy to cheat during a test
less likely to achieve
have much higher GPA
less likely to develop any addictions or
When someone is being bullied, they are likely to face with a series of challenges, which it causes social, physical, and health problems.
We often associate the use cell phones while attending school as a huge distraction and something that should be forbidden by all schools.
Cyberbullying not only effects its victim but also the school, the community and society as a whole. The reduction of a students concentration lead to falling grades and truancies. Many students are
There over thousands of cases where a child ended up taking their life because that child fell victim to cyberbullying. As a nation we see cyberbullying everywhere it is publicized on the news, in movies, and even books. Nobody wants to talk about it, just another thing that is swept under the rug but its here in the world. There should be a law preventing cyber bullying because it affects the welfare of the victim, cyber bullying is a constant, and we are better than this.
According to Acting Executive Director (strategic Operations and Engagement) At Mental Health Commission of NSW Julie Robotham the raise of smartphone has taken over the traditional experience with teenager’s use of technology and created a powerful new place for cyber-bullying. According to Professor Sheryl Hemphill, the Australian Catholic University, she followed 700 Victorian student from year 7 to year 9 and asking them anonymously whether they had teased or threatened via smartphone. The result should that 15percent of them had been involved in cyber bullying. . Cyberbullying can be determined to a person’s mental and physical health. Victim may experience various social isolation and unsafe. It can lead to emotional and physical harm,
Many of teens even kids have depression from this happening and they feel as if they aren’t worth anything just because one person is telling them that they aren’t, but even occasionally it’s not one person. Groups of people gang up on random kids and they harass them because they think it makes them seem better than everyone by bringing someone down. It’s difficult to track down a bully unless they are commenting on posts but if you try to report them usually nothing happens. I have never seen an account be taken down even if it is reported for harassment, which allows the bully to continue. If you are bullied at school it is easy to walk away, then eventually go home for some peace, but that isn’t the case anymore because now almost everyone has a cell phone, then the bully finds you and no one thinks to block them but then it starts to become out of hand. Even celebrities get bullied, especially on twitter. People tweet and harassed Adele by calling her overweight and they did this to Sam Smith as well and they both stood up for themselves. Adele shared her thoughts about it on a press conference and Sam Smith took a half way shirtless picture to show the world who he is and that is how he stood up to his bully which ended up being Howard

My topic is on cyberbullying and how it is effecting our youth in schools today. Coming out of as a sophomore high school I had witnessed some bullying with my own eyes. Taking from that experience of not knowing what to do in that type of situation and environment, I would want to know how to make a difference. By gaining more knowledge of this topic it will help me push this information on to others. Hopefully making a difference in pushing my knowledge further will do the same for others. In order to gain this knowledge you need to ask question and my question are: What is the most effective way of stopping cyberbullying before it gets too much to handle? In a cyber-world what can be done to stay safe against harm? What type of stereotypical profile do cyberbullying victims and perpetrators have?
Cyberbullying is the use of electronic devices with the intent of inflicting harm on another. Cyberbullying has steadily increased with new technology. Many international organizations and campaigns have emerged to defend the victims of this crime. An anti-bullying organization came about by youth in Canada to address the issues surrounding bullying in our society. This advocates for bullying awareness online, insisting that not enough government attention has been given to the issue of cyberbullying. It strives to influence the criminalization of this in Canada through public awareness. Its efforts cause question of the tolerance that cyberbullying has in our justice system. It seems ironic and illogical that internet users feel unsafe while participating in the online community. Why are laws not already in place prohibiting any feeling of nervousness? In order to facilitate the feeling of security among internet users, cyberbullying needs further attention from the government in the form of consequences associated with the offense. Legal punishment specific to cyberbullying needs institution as it constitutes the same as that of bullying outside of the virtual world, that it compromises the safety of its victims. By not implementing legal punishment towards cyber bullying, it voices the idea that the justice system condones the behavior and will encourage offenders.
Cyberbullying is any bullying that takes place with the use of electronic technology; cell phones, computers, social media, texting, and other electronic methods of communication. Cyberbullying typically happens to teenagers, when it happens to an adult is considered cyber-harassment or cyberstalking. Cyberbullying is different than in person bullying because it can happen anytime, victims find it hard to escape, the bully can be anonymous, and the bully can be anywhere in the world. Children who are being cyberbullied are also most likely being bullied in person.
The article written by Carol M. Walker, Beth Rajan Sockman, and Steven Koehn, “An Exploratory Study of Cyberbullying with Undergraduate University Students” delves into their study done on undergraduate students to address technology and its impact on cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is defined as, “The use of information and communication technologies such as email, cellphones, instant messaging… to promote deliberate, repeated and hurtful behavior with the intent to harm others” (Tech Trends Journal, Vol. 55, Issue 2, pg. 32). The purpose of this study was to examine what instances of cyberbullying undergraduate students experience, as well as what forms of technology are used in such instances. The questions posed were: What instances of cyberbullying do undergraduate students experience, and what role does gender play in cyberbullying at the undergraduate level?, and What forms of technology do undergraduate students use to perpetrate or receive bullying , and how often does it occur? Some questions that were also addressed were: What impact does the cellphone have on the interactions of undergraduate students as they maintain their status according to the Social Dominance theory?, How do social networking sites affect these students?, and Has the ability to reply instantly, without personal contact, augmented the bullying scene?
Cyberbullying has the power to tear down a life. Once it has started, there is no delete button that will automatically clear everything that has been said. The process of cyberbullying is difficult for the victim but possibly enjoyable for the bully. Often there is only one receiver and one trigger but multiple people join in because the comments are public for others to see as well. Being on the receiver side is difficult to deal with the comments every day and night because it is constantly on one’s mind and subconscious. It is challenging to search for help because of the comments said towards the victim, it is embarrassing and shaming, even though they are not the truth. Back then, there wasn 't much awareness as to what was happening online and how it was affecting people. Today there is more security on the Internet, like blocking and reporting, but cyberbullying is still happening. Victims may feel powerless and hopeless as to standing up for themselves. Cyberbullies should not only have a greater punishment, but there should be a higher awareness towards cyberbullying because it can cause harm in others lives.
This is a debate that can go both ways. Lots of bigger schools have banned cell phones in view of the size of the school. Every school has their own rules. There are many useful goods about cell phones during school. Some students use them to read in study hall, and others use them to research in class. The Internet can be helpful in class if some schools don’t have computers for all their students. When someone is browsing on the Internet on his or her free time at the end of a class, there could be an interesting article to learn something or teachers could have students do a project on an app. If they have school work or a test to study for, learn to put it down for a while and have limits (Schulten).
Does social media really help students in school? Does it help with a student’s ability to learn? When a student is on social media in school, are they just being distracted? Social networking has become a very widespread thing to do, but since teachers are allowing it in school, students seem to be more distracted. Although social networking in school may make students more interactive with others, teachers should not allow it in school because it distracts students from classwork, gives students anxiety, and social media is filled with inappropriate pictures and language that could get students into trouble.
Cyber bullying is the act of a person, or persons, viciously attacking another using electronic media such as email, texting, photos, social media, or video sharing sites. Nasty, hate-filled messages are directed at the bully’s target with the intent to criticize, humiliate, and defame the individual. If available, videos or photos that describe vulgar or inappropriate behavior even when it does not exist are used to further their cause. During this time, the person being bullied is initially hurt, which is the goal of the attack. While the attacks continue, they usually grow in intensity because now the bully knows that the attacks are affecting the individual, and the bully is gaining control. This only encourages the bully to do even more damage. As the bully is successful in breaking down the individual, more and more people take notice and continue the tormenting. The attacks get worse and more frequent, eventually becoming relentless with no sign of letting up. Without help, the individual can become depressed and withdrawn, furthering the bully’s agenda. If parents or authorities do not intervene very soon, a horrifying and terrible disaster is possible. The key to the prevention of cyber bullying begins first with communication. the biggest solution for this problem would be to talk with the victim and try to get them to deal with it in a better way and not let what others say to affect them, good family support would also be
