Charles Dickens was an adored, creative and respected British author of several literary pieces that are at this time are referred as classics. He was born on February 7, 1812, in Portsmouth which is located on the southern coast of England. Charles Dickens had a very rough upbringing. He didn’t have the ordinary life a child has. Between seven brothers and sisters he was the second born. His parents raised them together until his father whose name was John had accumulating amounts of debts which in the long run got his arrested and sent to a debtors ' prison. John was an exceptionally caring and easy going kind of guy. Charles Dickens was twelve when his father went to prison. His mother took all her children and moved into the prison
He changed from being a cold-blooded, cruel man to being a sympathetic, kind-hearted human being. Redemption was shown in the play numerous times. Once being when his nephew Fred asked him to join him and his family for a Christmas dinner Scrooge refused to go because he would much rather try to earn more money on Christmas than spend time with family and loved ones. A Ghost of Christmas Present brought Scrooge to Fred’s house and showed how Fred was defending him against all the criticism as to why he didn’t come, despite the fact that Scrooge called him “poor” and “a fool” for celebrating Christmas. By looking at what Fred was doing Scrooge started to value family a lot more and eventually went over to Fred’s house on Christmas. Throughout the play, the lower-class citizens were wearing torn, dirty clothing. The filthy clothing showed a clear sign that the town was in poverty while Scrooge was dressed in clean new clothes, and was very fortunate. Even though Scrooge was wealthy, he wouldn’t give a single nickel to the underprivileged community. He eventually gave back to the community for those who needed it. Another example was when earlier that day Scrooge wouldn’t allow his
