This paper explores the various methods I have learned as a student in the introduction to research course. The skills and methods taught in this class have been presented through course textbooks, online articles and videos, and interaction with the professor. Other opportunities for learning the research skills and methods occurred through writing of papers, testing knowledge through quizzes, and through interactive discussion board threads and posts. In addition to acknowledging these learned methods, this paper also includes insight into how I will be able to proceed in future courses, applying this newly acquired knowledge of research along with a biblical worldview, and how to properly examine research methods against the consistency of biblical principles and ethics. The challenge in writing a paper like this has been to write it in the format of an APA article, as outlined within the APA Manuel. Much of the context throughout the paper may seem less than scholarly, given that this is a paper written by myself, about myself, but that context will align with the instructions for the assignment. Synthesis At the beginning of this subterm, I had a limited understanding of the proper research methods used within psychology. Despite having previously completed several psychology courses, two being upper level courses, there was still much I needed to learn pertaining to psychology research methods. The PSYC 255 course at Liberty University is an introductory course that offers students a fundamental perceptive of different techniques used for research and investigation of data in the behavioral science field. The eight week course itinerary is filled with assignments that direct the student toward a path that is filled with collective psychological research approaches and design methods. It offers fundamental familiarity about the American Psychologist Association (herewith called APA) ethical and legal requirements. Plus it directs a student toward comparing the APA’s standard methods used for the research theory process versus bible standards. Lessons follow coaching in the relevance of a case study approach and the advantages and disadvantages. Then, a comparison study is done on qualitative and quantitative research technique and consideration. Upon course completion students are able to identify and understand the essentials of the research, method of preparation, overall written communications and technical considerations.
According to the course syllabus we were introduced to the techniques of psychological research. This course was able to provide an understanding of how research is done, and what methods we can use to do so. By having a clear understanding of research and techniques used, it allows us to communicate effectively in regards to ideas behind the research process. In this paper, I will use myself as the case study to examine exactly what I learned about research.

The sample for this study consisted of 222 participants who were second year psychology students from the University of Newcastle. All students were participating as part of a course requirement and all had given their consent to participating in the study.

As stated in our syllabus, research is essential to the science of psychology. This course was an introduction to the basic concepts and instruments needed to assess and conduct research. Through understanding the research process, as well as the ideas such as validity and reliability, we become better acute consumers and producers of research. I have also learned that research comes in many different tests and observation, but each method is just as important as the last one.
Of all the writing experience I gained through an AP heavy course load in high school, I look towards the experience I gained in one class more than anything else when it comes to the development of my reading and writing skills as a student and learner. This class was known locally in my high school as Honors Issues in Religions, taught by Mr. Burnett. The reason this class has held such an impact on me is because we were able to develop both reading and writing in a variety of ways, whether it was doing the nightly textbook reading, writing 4 essays in 90 minutes in what is known as a test in the class, the 15 page minimum research paper due at the end of the year, or even the book review done on a book of the student’s choice. All of these different aspects were able to help myself improve my skills as both a reader and writer.
I have heard that someone does not have to leave everything behind to figure out his or herself, but I am not sure that is completely true. Figuring yourself out is a lifelong process, but in your adolescent years, you start with nothing. And you can’t expect to figure everything out by staying in a place you have always known. I’m in college now, and I’m yearning to know who I am more than ever. What will I be out of college? Will I be okay? What will my career be? Why am I in college in the first place? These questions haunt me, and I don’t have answers for them. I’m learning the hard way to come to terms with being uncertain. What I do know is that I love learning, I want to learn all I can, and I want to be the best person I can possibly be.
Within the eight weeks of this course, we learned a lot about psychological research. This course provided an understanding of how research is completed. This course also gave an understanding of what methods to utilize based on that particular research that is being conducted. In this paper I will discuss exactly what I learned about research at an introductory level as a case study. In the field of mental health, professionals must be constantly looking for ways to help their patients (Cozby & Bates 2015).
I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the “Common Sense” textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards.
