This portfolio is a great example of how I improved as a writer. This second semester of duel enrollment English has helped me improve not only on becoming a better writer but as well as becoming more mature as a person and has helped me with time management. This portfolio includes the three best pieces that I have written this whole year. I hope you enjoy these pieces as much as I enjoy them. The first piece I chose to put in this portfolio was my narrative piece. The reason I chose this was because it was the first paper I wrote for this class back in early October. The piece may not be perfect, but looking back on it I can see the improvements I have made into my more recent pieces or writing. The first piece of writing also allowed me to use new vocabulary words we learned before we started the paper. For example “Calorie intake was probably the most draconian task I had to overcome.” The word “draconian” was not a part of my vocabulary until I took this class. The problems I faced writing this paper was finding enough time to write the paper. Since this was my first big assignment in the class I was eager yet nervous to start the writing process. The smarthinking reports from Germannas website made editing and revising a much easier task to accomplish. It also made it easier for me to help make improvements on my mistakes in my papers. The second piece of writing I chose is from the second semester of duel enrollment. This piece was the argumentative piece, were we
While writing might seem like a simple task, it can be a daunting task for a lot of people. Sometimes it can be hard to express the ideas in your mind in the words of a paper. This results in a disconnect with what a writer may actually think. A great writer is one that can transform his thoughts into words perfectly. This is a craft that takes many years to perfect, which is why writing is troublesome for a lot of us. Many students also have had bad experiences with writing. Maybe they had a teacher that didn’t try to support them and their writing. They might not have ever gotten the help they needed and may feel that they are in a hole where their writing can’t get better. At this point, they just accept that their writing will never get better.
A semester has passed since I started college and my journey of becoming a better writer. It has been a very important semester for my future college career, and I would not be here without the things I have accomplished. The composition program has really helped me to prepare for what college writing is all about. Now standing here and looking back I could not imagine how it would be without that class. I believe my English, and my writing is better than it has ever been, and all thanks to the composition program.
From writing thoughtful poems to research papers, I have experienced composing a diverse portfolio of literary analysis and criticisms throughout the school year. I started out the year writing minimally. By the end of the year, I noticed I was able to express my ideas and thoughts in a more clear and concise way on paper. Ultimately, each composition allowed me to widen my horizons as a writer and see how I could improve as a writer.
I chose my memoir for AP English Language and Composition as my best piece because it’s received a ninety percent and is the written work I’m most proud of. The reader should expect to find information about me that one wouldn’t know by simply looking at me. One will find how overcoming my own challenges and one that was thrown at me made the person I am today. One would discover my passion and determination to pursue a career in family law. The impressions I hope the reader gains about myself after viewing this piece is that I am a methodical writer as well as a psychological person who tends to hide it.
Dear readers, what you are about to see is my portfolio done in SDCC4 class. In this portfolio, you are going to see my 2H and 3B essays, with all the drafts included. Also, an in class reflection and a summary of my grammar log were included too.
As a writer, I have improved greatly since the first exploratory narrative essay. There have been many challenges that I have faced in my writing, but I have dealt with them in the best way possible. Over the course of the three papers I have written, I have improved in the flow of the papers, as well as the content of the papers. This semester, I have managed to overcome most of the challenges in my writing and have grown as a writer because of it.
Throughout the semester I learned and overcame many different things. Writing has never been a strength of mine, but as the semester went on I started to enjoy writing the papers assigned to us. I overcame my problem with procrastination and not giving myself enough time to plan out my papers. I also learned what content is important when it comes to certain types of papers and how important peer reviews really are.
My entire life, reading and writing have always been my weaknesses. Coming from a Hispanic household, the way things are said and written does not usually translate the same way to English. As much as I have always tried to push myself and keep improving, I feel like I have reached a point where I need a small push and guidance to take my writing to the next level. From my high school, I learned a lot of writing technics and have some small grammar lectures every now and then. Writing my research papers, preparing speeches, and all the college essays have given me lots of practice with different writing styles and methods. Yet, I still have not found one that I feel the most confident in. This semester, I truly wish to improve the transitions
In my ePortfolio, I have gathered a series of my writings that I have completed over the course of this semester. Overall in this entire course I have learned a great deal of material that has pushed me to become a better writer. From my past courses, I have noticed that I am not the strongest writer but I do try my best. With Professor Knox’s tough grading system, he has given me drive to bshow my potiential as a writer. I feel as if my knowledge has increased a significant amount on the following topics/concepts and I support each claim with the correlating artifacts 1) Writing process Artifact 1-Writing Log 3, (2) Discourse Community-Artifact 2 Assignment 2 Partner Review, (3) Rhetoric Artifact 3- Assignment 1, (4) Genre Artifact 4- Reading Notes Week 10; and (5) Critical Thinking, Reading, and Research—Artifact 5--Assignment 5. Every assignment has shaped me into a more developed writer and has prepared me more for ENG 280.
“Writing doesn’t come easy.” When writing you must be able to transmit a clear message to the reader. In addition, you have to keep in mind a purpose and an audience when writing. This will help anyone send a much clearer message. Composition 1301 was a great experience for me. I’m impressed on how much I’ve learned in such a short time frame. I learned that the mechanics and formatting are important when it comes to writing; however, it is also important how you express your thoughts and ideas in a clear way. Another, important thing I learned was how to create an argument in a research paper. I might not be an expert in writing but now I at least I know what it takes to write a good paper.
All my life I have struggled with English due to the fact that I did not learn English till the age of seven, as it was not the first language. Programs like ESL have helped me improve my English tremendously through high school. Over these past two quarters in college, I learned to improve my writing more than ever, as I have learned that there is no limit in writing. I was able to learn many new strategies that will help me write my future papers efficiently. I have also learned my strengths and weakness. Throughout high school, I dreaded writing essays, due to the fact that I was not good at it, but this quarter I have learned the importance of writing. Writing 20 has changed my opinion on that.
Taking English 1102 my second semester has given me the opportunity to develop my professional writing skills. I learned how to use the writing process effectively by brainstorming ideas, making drafts, and peer evaluations. In addition, I learned the title should give the reader a clue about the main idea of the paper. In my opinion, writing is simply expressing thoughts in a definite form. This self-assessment essay will reflect on my most successful and problematic assignments, errors in my writing, and how I have changed as a writer over the semester.
In this paragraph I will be sharing my writing skills I have improved on throughout my first semester and goals I will be setting to keep on improving in my writing. For my past prompts and essays I have typed were great because I was slowly but surely improving on my writing. One this that for sure helped me on my prompt and pieces of writing was a site called Paper Rater. Paper Rater very much helped me on these writing pieces because it helped me on my Spelling, Grammar, Word Choice, Style, and Vocabulary Words. In Paper Rater it scores you either a A, B, C, D, OR F depending on how bright-eyed your writing came to be. In my writing piece makings, existents I have improved on would be my Vocabulary, Word Choice and Grammar. I have improved
This portfolio is an assemble of my written work that I have finished in English 1001; all of which support my definite comprehension and execution of the course outcomes. I consisted 3 major projects, my portfolio explores the new techniques I have learned as a college student writer, the themes of culture and language, ethical appeal and researching. You most likely have no idea what any of these projects and assignments are about, or what they consist of. This brief description is to help you understand, and it is brief because I don 't want to overwrite and confuse you or anything.
This first semester at the University of Akron has flown by. I learned many new writing concepts that helped me become a better writer. English composition was a required class that I had to take in order to get my degree. Although this class was required I still wanted to take this class to become more knowledgeable about writing. Coming into English Composition I was worried about all of the papers and the workload that I would have to complete. I knew that I was going to have to write a lot more than I previously had in highschool, but I was unsure of just how much. The works that I decided to include in my portfolio comprise of my Literacy Narrative, Image Analysis Paper, and essay titled Mayas Hardships based on Maya’s experiences in I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. I selected these works because I felt that they are the ones that require the most improvement to them. The papers i've chosen show how far I’ve came In English Composition.
