“How it feels to be colored me” was written in 1928. While Zora, was growing up she was raised in an all black town in Eatonville, Florida up to her thirteenth year. Through-out her years growing up see saw only a few white people passing through coming and going to Orlando, Florida. The main point of view of “How it feels to be colored me” is the differences between whites and blacks, because back then they didn’t like each other. Zora , said “white people differed from colored to me only in that they rode through town and never lived there.” what she means is that the white people wanted to see her dance , talk etc , but after doing that for the white people they would give her a little bit of silver for doing those things . She felt colored when she was thrown against a white background different from her childhood point of views, zora can now see the difference between whites and black’s .She began what it was like to be colored, when she had left her home town of Eatonsville. According to Zora she now realizes the differences of whites and blacks but ignores them. Hurston felt that being the granddaughter of slaves means she has nothing to lose and its not going to stop her from doing what she is doing now .Zora once said “This orchestra grows rambunctious, rears on its hind legs and attacks the tonal veil with primitive fury, rending it, clawing it until it breaks through to the jungle beyond. I follow those heathen?follow them exultingly. I dance wildly inside myself; I yell within, I whoop; I shake my assegai above my head, I hurl it true to the mark yeeeeooww! I am in the jungle and living in the jungle
