How My Writing Has Improved Greatly Improved After Taking English 103

While attending writing class, I learned about the 4 steps in writing, bases for revising, organizing, and connecting specific information, and I also learned about the different types of essays such as descriptive, narrative, process, cause and effect and argumentative essay. I have been a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College for 1 semester, and over the course of my enrollment I have grown and learned more that I knew prior to attending this writing course. Participating in this writing class has taught me so much more than stuff about literature and language, it has taught me another way of expressing myself. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don 't know. Most importantly I have learned how important technique, outlines and organization are. My goal in this paper is to inform writers about how my writing skills have improved.

Writing is a skill that improves over time with experience and exposure to different concepts. English 111 provided me with new skills and information that allowed me to enhance my writing abilities. As a student, I was given the opportunity to explore and develop my own writing process. This course explained, in depth, the components of a college level paper and correct grammar rules. By creating and following my own writing process, understanding the correct flow/components of a paper, and improving my grammar skills my writing improved tremendously. Through taking the course, English 111, I was able to develop as a writer and improve my writing abilities.

I have improved in numerous ways during this semester in Composition 1. I have enhanced my writing skills such as being able to write proficiently, and being able to form an essay in a set amount a time similar to the 50 minute essay tests in class. This course has taught me to broaden my vocabulary throughout my essays in order for them stimulating and captivating. While writing essays and creating the works cited pages, I have learned to accurately cite websites, books, and articles. I have also learned to suitably place and refer to where I found the material used for the essays within, and at the beginning of, paragraphs. When writing my essays I have learned to transition smoothly, however, I still struggle with it every once in a while, the writing I do continues to enhance. My speech has also improved from standing in front of the class and presenting a group project along with fellow classmates. I now know what it is like and what to expect the next time I do it. I have improved in many ways during this course and I feel, overall, the portfolio represents my progress greatly.

The final weeks of my first semester in college are coming to an end. My Columbus State english class has written a total of three projects, and a total of four papers. There are a lot of grammatical issues that, at the beginning of the year, I had issues on. However, I have improved on these errors drastically, and have become a better writer because of it. Even though I am still working on many aspects of my writing, I do believe that I have become a better writer. I believe that my biggest issues while writing are run on sentences, making a strong thesis statement, and having quotes stand alone at the beginning of a paragraph.

Over the course of this semester, I have learned many things to improve my writing. Having taken the course before, this semester has been an excellent opportunity to expand on my existing knowledge. Although I had written many essays before, there is still much to be learned and improved. Two factors of writing that I had learned or improved on this semester were transitions/topic sentences and how to properly structure a conclusion paragraph.

In this class, I have learned many new skills to improve my writing, and I have also learned new grammar rules. In regards to my writing, I have learned the importance of freewriting when beginning to write a paper. Additionally, I now know to allow ample time for revising and editing because I can look at my work critically for mistakes and make necessary changes. Furthermore, I have learned about grammar rules such as pronoun-antecedent agreement. This rule is something that I know subconsciously, but being made aware of it has allowed me to find mistakes I make more often.

I believe I have grown a lot since the beginning of this course. My writing was severely lacking grammar and punctuation. I didn’t use any punctuation other than periods and very few commas spersed throughout my papers. My papers still need help in that area, but I have improved. I now know where they need to go and when it’s appropriate to use them. My papers aren’t exactly flawless but they are better than before. I would write how I speak at times and I knew it wasn’t right, but I would still do it because it allowed my papers to flow better in my mind. I read my papers out loud to help avoid my problem with writing how I speak. I’ve learned my writing style in this course, or lack thereof. I found a program that would benefit me now and

With the winter semester ending, I have been reflecting about my writing English 101 class. In this Semester I studied and learned to write professionally after performing many tasks and assignments. Through basic writing errors, analytical moves, developing paragraphs, introduction and conclusion, I was able to learn to write correctly and even different from what I had written before. For example, in the old days I used to make a sentence by typing: I see it, or I say so, but now I can write without repeating the word I.

Throughout life, writing has been one of the major struggles I faced in order to succeed as well as others. Growing up, I would envy success from others, and I would wonder why I wasn’t better than them and why I couldn’t accomplish as much. Therefore knowing my weakness, I worked hard all of middle school to avoid the image that others placed me in, based on the fact that I didn’t do better than others. In high school I tried to avoid it, and it became easier to do as well, but as I arrived to college I wasn’t ready to all of the new expectations that surrounded me. Therefore, I have begun by taking classes that were the perquisites to help my writing improve. The first class I took was English 60B. That class wasn’t as difficult as I imagined and it taught the skills I would need for English 50. After I took English 50, I challenged myself by actually doing research and having to improve my organizational skills. Now being in English 1A, and although it is

Writing has always been a tough subject for me. As long as I can remember, I struggled with reading which, reduced my ability to find words for writing. I tend to have awkward sentences and find it difficult to have my ideas flow from one to the other. I was nervous to take a college writing class but, I’m glad I started with Writing 95 because it has helped me prepare for Writing 121. Overall I feel like my reading and writing skills were high enough for this class because I found the work to be feasible. My work has improved from the beginning of the class and I feel more confident in my writing and reading skills.

This English course was a vastly informative class. We covered lots of criteria material and discussed topics during class. During the course, I have accomplish a variety of goals I once thought were unachievable. I still have a little ways to go to become the best writer I can be but by taking this course I have been able to expand and learn as a writer, editor, and analyzer of my work, peers work, and academic work. I have learned from others as others have learned from me. I have tried to improve particular aspects of my writing but continue to struggle with other aspects. I have found new strategies and breakthroughs that have allowed me to improve my essays. However, I am still learning how to write and believe that I always shall

In the beginning of this semester I didn't like writing at all. I had a lot of difficulty when it came to writing. That was my only weakness in high school. But as I started taking basic writing, I have made a lot of progress. Before I had trouble to put detail in my essays, but now I am confident. My attitude toward writing went from negative to positive during this semester. Some aspects of the class have helped me strengthen my writing, I have builded some strengths for myself as a writer, and I know I made a lot of progress by reading my most successful essay, and by comparing my early essays to my more recent ones.

1. My writing has grown tremendously since my first essay of the semester. The first essay I struggled with organization and sentence structure. Considering my last essay, I have been able to organize information to make it much more pleasing to read. Likewise, in my second essay I had some trouble with the MLA format. However, in my last essay I managed to cite and source all information more favorably. Furthermore, in my third essay I had trouble with adding detail in my body paragraphs. In my last essay, I was able to demonstrate a full understanding of the assignment by providing great detail. Overall, throughout this course, I have been able to form my own unique style of writing

Many students of all ages have issues with writing, the only way to get good at writing is to have experiance. I never paid much attention to my writing skills in high school, I just did not care about writing. This year as a freshman in college I have been struggling with writing this semester in GSW 1100. Even though I have not been doing well, I understand that writing in college is extremely important to learn and develop. This is important because most courses in college have writing in them. As the semester has progressed, I have slowly started to understand where I am with writing and where I need to improve. Revising my essays is a great way to learn from my mistakes. Although my writing is not great yet I am slowly getting there with this class. I believe I have improved my writing a great deal in several areas over the course of this semester and I feel that my portfolio shows this. I have learned to develop my thesis and make it clear, to recognise sentence boundaries errors, and to see and fix the many grammar errors in my writing.

The first improvement I saw was the wording I would use. At first, it may be dull, and there may be overused and bulky words, but as it winds down to the finished product, the wording seemed better to me. For example, no matter what I write, I would use general words like "things" or "some," but now I will stop myself and go back in the moment and elaborate. When I am reading through it, I will look at the essay as if someone else wrote it, and if I would question it usually, I fix it. While I may understand what a sentence means, another person may not understand what I am trying to get across to them. Furthermore, at first it was hard for me to find other words, but now it is almost like second nature.
