How to be a Good College Student Essay

During any lecture classes, take notes. You don't have to write down everything that your teacher says. Try to synthesis the information and write down the big idea as well as important vocabulary words. You should be able to look back at your notes and fill in the details on your own. Learning how to take effective notes takes practice; don't get down on yourself if your first few attempts are not that helpful, just keep practicing.

College students mostly get nervous about all the sudden work load that they face and may fail in many steps throughout their college life. They might end up needing help and professional advice on how to get good grades and survive their college. John Langan in “Three Keys to Doing Well in School” says (that) the three most important factors to a student’s success in college are attitude toward learning, good study skills and involvement with reading. Langan emphasizes on these three main points, sharing his opinion on how these keys are important and says that one should have much self-respect and determination to earn the reward by hard work rather than relying on luck. Furthermore, Writing and taking notes is another major key when it comes to enhancing study skills. Also, being organized and having a schedule setup for almost everything helps an individual to work on time and complete the assigned work ahead of time too. Reading is also an important step to better performance in school or college as it helps you think well, increases your vocabulary and helps you become a more successful person. These factors are some of the most important characteristics that a student should develop throughout his life to succeed in life as it helps build and strengthen the future of the student.

The first two chapters of “What the Best College Students Do” cover several topics. Throughout the chapters, the lives and experiences of different college students are explored. A reoccurring theme in the book is the concept of learning styles. Essentially, the three learning styles are memorization, comprehension, and strategy. According to the author, comprehension is the most effective style of learning. While everyone will possess one of these three learning styles, it is not impossible for someone to adjust to another style. Additionally, the author elaborates on academic ideas such as independence, grades, and outside influences.

Preparing high school students for college is every parent and teachers goal but sometimes that goal is hard to achieve. Students are not getting a proper education now-a-days and they do not realize that it is going to hurt them after they graduate. A study says, “That composite score dropped to 20.9 among high school students in 2013, the lowest in eight years” (Adams, 2013). That is a very low average and it is because what students are learning in high school just isn’t sticking with them through college. After students graduate they start taking harder classes, some have to start paying their own bills, and so many other changes they are not ready for. It is a big jump to go from high school to college and I think schools can do a better job of preparing students. It is their experience and education in high school that is going to help them in college. If they are not ready they are going to struggle which will result in some not so good outcomes such as having low grades or even worse dropping out. I do not believe that high school education has prepared students for college because there are many useless classes, it is more about memorizing than learning, and students drop out in a year or less because of the workload.

College 101 has been a very informative class. It has taught me a lot about college and the changes you have to make while attending college. I learned a lot about certain programs that the school offers, I knew nothing about these programs before I took this class and I probably never would have known anything about them if I never would have taken this class. In this class I have learned about three important concepts that can be very useful throughout my college years to come. I think time management, determining values and balancing lifestyles are the three most important concepts you need to help you succeed in college.

After graduating high school, no one prepares you for college. Most kids when they are finished with high school don’t even fantasize about going back to school. I have always wanted to go to college ever since I was a young kid. I also had dreams of myself going to college, but in my dreams, everything was picture perfect. In reality, college has been very challenging for me. No one tells you about the adjustments and complications that you would have to face to become a successful college student.

When a person is on the verge of failing a course, if they catch the failing grade fast enough, there are many things they can change to reach success in the course. The things they make different may have been their downfall to begin with. They could have never studied. While it is great to take good notes in class, what good are the notes if they are never practically used? Another part of studying is to look at the textbook outside of a classroom setting, and in college the student must buy the books don’t let them go to waste. To study properly

To my fellow college classmates, I'm going to set you guys up for college success. The very first thing to college success is showing up, you need drive and motivation to push yourself through college. Not all days will be stunning but if you’re going to make through college you will need have the desire to exceed. Next thing for college success is taking responsibilities for yourself, you need make sure that you have all component’s you need for yourself successful in your own system. Another thing for college success taking notes in class, not all classmates love this, but it will make you recognize important subjects that your class is trying to teach you. Approaching a new course one can have the confidence that they will be successful by maintaining an open mind to the material that is being introduce by their instructor. In doing so the student will master a new subject as well as be introduced to new thoughts and ideas pertaining to the material. Most importantly there is a higher rate of success in the class which leads to a more favorable outcome.

Developing their own study skills is part of finding out which skills students have already mastered and are efficient in. When students effectively develop these study skills it will help them to be able to succeed in any training session or class. Many students suffer due to the fact that they never do learn how to effectively use their study skills. Once students find out which skills they have already mastered and are efficient in they can figure out in which area they are lacking. In developing good study habits it is also best if students make a plan of action so that they can best use their time in order to reach their goals. At any time a student can alter or change their schedule if they need to, students just need to realize the importance of sticking to a plan or schedule. Being tired greatly reduces a person’s ability to study so students should never try and plan study time when they know they will be tired. If students study while tired, it will cause them to begin disliking study time. Eating is also very important for the development of good studying habits. If a student tries to study on an empty stomach they will not be able to focus on the material. Usually studying and average of one hour after eating is a good rule of thumb to follow. College is a very controversial Topic. Some people think it’s a waste of time and money, while others say it’s the only way to be successful. In this essay we will explore the benefits of getting an education and how it can better your chances of being successful. To the modern student, the role of education is to become financially stable. In college, you develop specialized skills in the field you plan to work in, as well as obtaining communication skills, interpersonal skills, and more importantly finding your “ professional voice”.

So that you don't have different distances. Being a successful student may involve some of the characteristics such as: organization, time, studying, and believing you can achieve.

Furthermore, although you are interested in a subject and your are really trying to concentrate, but it could also interrupt by distraction. You cannot control over some distraction but the are some other ways to control. You may choose the place and time of study. In order to study efficiently, we need to have a place used for study. More wisely, set your timetable to plan your work and study. The kind of timetable will depend upon on your class schedule, study time and social activities. We should try to follow the rule of plan your work and work your plan.

To become a success in life, we all need to learn to become a good student in every aspect of life. Becoming a good student takes much work and self-discipline. There are many ways that a student can stand out from the rest of the class. These good students are distinguished by their attitude, intellectual skills, consciousness, and achievement.
