According to the UNODC report, between 2007 and 2010 women constituted the majority of victims of trafficking in persons detected globally. (Crime) The same report reported that children being trafficked is on the rise. Out of the detected victims whose age profile was known and reported in the period 2007-2010, around 27 percent were children. (Crime)
Human trafficking is a crime. Human trafficking is also a serious infringement on human rights. These victims lose all their rights when the fall for the false promises. Their dignity and well-being are lost during this time. The Civil Rights Unit make human trafficking a priority. Their human trafficking program is based on the passage of the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution
