A warm welcome back to our returning students and a big hello to our new freshmen interior designers! Professor Heidi Schlegel and I have worked very closely together over the last few months and we have many exciting design projects and activities that we look forward to sharing with you. Some highlights include the return of the very popular interdisciplinary Hyperspace project along with opportunities to take part in design competitions, our alumni forum What's Next and several professional conferences. As a faculty we have collaborated to bring you diverse topics and studio projects that explore the challenges facing the profession today. I hold an M Arch degree from the University at Buffalo with a specialization in environmental design. As a practicing professional I have owned and operated a design business for more than twelve years in Rochester, New York. Upon obtaining my master's degree I established the first company in Western New York to specialize in natural building technologies and clay finish plasters. The company has grown to include full services for sustainable residential, retail, institution and hospitality interior design. Architecturally, I collaborate with licensed professionals to design sustainable homes that range from the completely natural to hybrid structures featuring energy-efficient technologies. In tandem with my design business I was an assistant professor and interior design program coordinator at Alfred State College teaching in both interior design and architecture. My personal practice and management experience in corporate industry create wonderful opportunities to explore real world design issues in the studio and with the community. In our own interior design program, Professor Missy Warp comes to us from Western Kentucky University and will instruct the Digital Graphics course. Greg Hale, PE of Hale Technology returns to teach the REVIT elective, Josh Hostetler a BIM technical specialist from Edge will instruct the Design Drawing II course and Mauro Cringoli an architect from the local A+D firm,Smith Architecture will work with our senior interior designers in Construction Documents. Interior designer and architect, Kelly Jahn along with Josh Zeitler an interior designer and retail merchandiser will join us in the spring to teach Design Drawing I, Retail Design and the Special Projects studios. Each of these very talented professionals bring a unique perspective to the practice of interior design and we are thrilled to have them as part of our faculty team. It is a great honor to be your new program chair and I look forward to getting to know each of you personally. We will take time to get together as a program during the semester and I will stop by your courses in the first week to say hello and introduce myself.
