Through studying texts one can gain a greater understanding of how individuals can transition into more prosperous and positive phases of life as well into new and differing social contexts. This is explored in the texts The Simple Gift composed by Steven Herrick, as Billy transitions into a new life in the town of Bendarat and in Jasper Jones as Charlie develops new outlooks in his life and moves into social contexts he would have once perceived as taboo. Through the portrayal of transitions in these texts, the responder gains a wider perception how circumstances can create transitions into new phases of life and gain a greater understanding of contrasting social contexts.

Extroverts in today’s society are idolized, and people associate different positive characteristics such as attractiveness and intelligence with extroverts. That misconception has caused many introverts to try and become more extroverted in order to fit in with society. However, the book Quiet by Susan Crain informs that introverts posses many strong traits like leadership or intelligence and therefore can be viewed just as highly as extroverts.

People high in extroversion tend to seek out opportunities for social interaction, where they are often the “life of the party.” They are comfortable with others, gregarious, and prone to action rather than contemplation. People low in extroversion are more likely to be people “of few words,” people who are quiet, introspective, reserved, and thoughtful. The long-term study found that extroversion was fairly stable across the years, indicating that extroverts and introverts do not easily shift into the opposite

On April 4, I watched the TED Talk of Susan Cain, a writer. She claimed that introverts are not shy or antisocial. Specifically she claimed that introverts are not inferior to anyone just because they want to work alone. As she said, “Introverts feel at their most alive ….. and their most capable when they’re in quieter, more low-key environment.” Although some people believe that introverts like to work individually because they are shy, Cain insisted that they do that because that's how they bring out their full potential and be more creative. Many would consider introverts as shy, or powerless. If one was to research the definition of an introvert google will provide you with this, “a shy, reticent person.” This stereotype of an introvert, can be so disconcerting. Those who are introverts, may realize that at times this definition may be true, but that does not define introverts as a whole. They may often hide or guard their ideas or feelings, and keep their baggage to themselves. I found this to be very interesting that it is possible to be both an introvert and extravert, which means being in the middle between the two Knowing the similarities and differences are important to know, because it can help people to understand each other in some ways. It can also provide some insight into a person on why they do some of the things they do and at times change their feelings or perspective. Recently, however, personality researchers have begun looking more closely at the smaller ways we can and do change (McGowan, 2008). Introversion is defined as a preference and they prefer a rich inner life to a vast social life, talking with a close friend to sharing stories in a group, developing their ideas internally to interactively. While working with the kindergarteners, I saw an even mix of extroverts and introverts. When working in the art room I saw several introverts. The introverts I worked with had qualities of being self-sufficient, focused, good listeners, and when you do get them to talk they have good thoughts.
